  1. It's kind of getting away from the focus. No matter what any one opinion is , Gallatin will get THEIR guy. I agree metro does have many good coaches head and assistants. Broome and Brunetti being two. Anyone can lose on any given day... Like Gallatin did to SC. It just happens . Stratford also beat Fairview and almost beat Covington . One game doesn't define coaching. Relax and let Gallatin admin and trust do their job .

  2. You forgot to factor in the Cleveland Factor. Wherever he falls in the rankings on a objective basis, the Cleveland Factor automatically moves him up 3-4 positions. It a very scientific algorithm that factors in many elements such as number of views on YooTube, likes on FaceSpace, and amount of marketing posters distributed. You will find that Jones, Lundy, and others on the roster have also benefited from the CF.

  3. This thread is so full of crap it isnt even funny. I think you all make decent points at times, but much of the info in here is so meaningless. I have lived in many different cities since I graduated before I bought my house (in Gallatin by the way) I have lived in Hendersonville, Gallatin, Lebanon, Providence Mount Juliet, & near downtown Nashville. I can tell you, Gallatin is BY FAR the most quiet, peaceful place I have lived. The only sort of big city where "Everybody Knows Everybody". I dont get why all of you are jumping on Gallatin, trying to rub sh** on their name, while acting like everybody else is just all Roses. People can't stand the thought of Gallatin Football possibly being a household name again.

  4. Jimb1972 you are very pessimistic . Its kind of getting ridiculous. For someone with no ties to this school you are commenting more than anyone on here. GIVE IT A BREAK PAL. This is a forum to discuss and have friendly opinions but all you have done is belittle the program that you're not associated with . Good Luck to Gallatin hope to hear some new soon.

  5. Really don’t understand the blaming on the coach and his coaching style for the losses. Coach Sanders is getting a lot of heat for the losses and his way of subbing. just because a kid can hit a couple shots doesn’t mean they should be left in when that kid jogs up and down the court, plays lazy defense, misses rebounds, etc. I think the biggest problem this team has is not everyone looks to be on board. listening to the fans yelling to the kids one thing and then watching the coach tell them something different, I can see where the kids would be confused. Parents need to leave the coaching and decision making up to the coach. That’s what he gets paid to do. If parents tell thier kids that the coach is terrible and he doesn’t belong or he needs to do better or whatever the case is that a parent is trying to tell a kid, what would make you think that kid would trust a coach. It’s high school basketball, not Jr. pro. Don’t need parents telling kids how bad the coach is or what they need to do. I’m sure the coach tells the kids what to do. Leave it up to the COACH to be a COACH and get off his back. He’s not the one making mistakes on the floor. As a former graduate of the school it’s really hard to watch/hear the disrespect towards the coach.

  6. I agree to a degree that some of you guys are taking this way too serious. However I also agree that if you are going to take the time to make rankings, you should try to make them correct. The sayings that "rankings dont matter" and "the only thing that matters is how they do at state" have become cliche and simply aren't true anymore. Yes, performance at the end of the year is far more important, but to say rankings dont matter is completely false. The kids get on their phones at tournaments and see what guys are ranked in their bracket, parents take pride when their son beats someone who is ranked higher than them, coaches often use them as a gauge to know when to make a bump in duals and yes they are often argued in seeding meetings. For all those points and many others, I would say that rankings do matter- despite what older traditionalists seem to believe.

  7. If your team wins the State Tournament and you're still worried about who is number #1 in some stupid poll then you my friend have some insecurity issues

  8. This argument effectively discount one team's success. The Bros beat who was put in front of them. Rankings should reflect such. If Pace and whoever else is missing at States and CB wins will the final rankings list Baylor ahead because if, if, if........

  9. Three thumbs up Purple! If it's a legacy team that loses then the argument is always that someone was missing or someone is not at weight or my favorite, one of their good wrestlers got caught. Haha!

  10. Negative. It's one thing to call the rankings crap and disparage the work Hamm does. It's another to bring up legitimate, constructive points. For instance, Jones has one loss while wrestling up this year but it was to another 182er who was also wrestling up. In fact Samuel Smith wrestled at 182 in his next two matches against Cookeville and Tullahoma on that same day. So in my book that is a bad loss for the number one guy to -- by Hamm's own criteria -- an unranked opponent. By that reason alone he should drop. Also...to weaken the "returning medalist" consideration...aren't we far enough along this season that their body of work should outweigh last year's accomplishments. I think so and given this both Sacarczyk and Antcliffe merit a higher rank. Furthermore Antcliffe made it to the semi finals at 170 last year before medically forfeiting out to 6th place. They never wrestled one another and any claim that Jones' 5th place is a better accomplishment in light of this is suspect at best. Nevertheless if one has to be dogmatic I'll grudgingly concede this last point.

  11. WAIT, so it's what someone thinks their line up might be, and not what it is? Look, if a college team is missing people and lose, they drop in the rankings. Why is this any different? This kills me, if and when they get their "full" team back, and win, that's when they should move back up. What if they NEVER get their "full" team back? Its the same issue as individual rankings. Ranking kids where you THINK they might end up, but they haven't ever wrestled there. I get the preseason rankings doing that, but once the season starts is should be only about what you are doing at that moment in time.

  12. I know you don't have an issue with it by the way you talk on here. You just have a deep love for Gallatin and want to see them get back to the good days . That's what matters to you and that's what should matter . It's the other posters that have been talking ridiculously. I say the best coach for the program that believes Gallatin should be the job no matter skin color or where they have been previously .

  13. Williams was HC at Gallatin for 7 seasons. Not like they made a snap decision. Support is something Gallatin has never lacked. I think most Gallatin posters on here have a good idea of what kind of coach it would take to win there. Their expectations are not unreasonable

  14. Ham--your keyboard says one thing but your rankings say another. I'm going to let you slide on Jones and give you the benefit of the doubt assuming you were just being lazy and chose the highest returning medalist without doing any homework at 82 to see if he is actually the best wrestler at the weigh this year. BUT I can't let you slide on Lundy. What is your rationale to give him the one seed with no prior state medal and zero notable results from this season. He didn't even wrestle last season. Are we factoring in freestyle results now? Perez 3rd? Benefield 3rd? I am just saying there seems to be a great deal of blind faith in some of these guys. If they were from Antioch or Dickson Co. would they get the same love with the same lack of proven results?

  15. 1st time watching Maryville play this year. Like the Vols they were fun to watch. They play hard. I like the Big Sophomore Center. He takes up a lot of space. That kid is every bit of 6,8 or 6,7. Don't know all the names of the players but thought 33 played tough defense on Quez Glover. Christian Gale is a great shooter. Bearden has real good players in Ques Glover,Trent Stephney just to name a few. Bearden has no one as good as Joe Anderson. Joe was trying to get everyone involved early in the game. Very unselfish. Starting the 4th quarter when Maryville was down 9. Joe took over. Joe can shoot the ball well from medium range or 3 pointers. He can also drive to the basket. When he decided to take over no one could check him. He is worth the price of admission.

  17. You should just go ahead and rank Cleveland, Bradley and Soddy dead last just to make sure certain people don’t think you’re biased.

  18. Jones is the highest returning medalist at the weight. 1 lost in big schools while wrestling up a weight. I'd be the LAST to rank someone for simply being from Cleveland.

  20. The other thing that ANY coach should invest time and energy into is establishing and building a feeder program. For long term success it is paramount. For this also you need to have the right people. Preferably a person who is technically competent, good with kids and parents, in it for the long haul, and communicates well with you. If you are lucky you will find all these qualities in one person but more likely it will be a group effort.

  21. I don’t think people are referring as much about the football program as they are about the community (Gallatin Zone). You guys are obviously great supporters of the Green Wave, but as you can see from this thread most outsiders now look at Gallatin as a place you don’t want to live/work/coach. How many murders did you have there this weekend? The student population at Gallatin may have some athletes, but they are NOT head and shoulders above any other school in 5A/6A that routinely wins. Dealing with the off the field issues these kids have makes this a tougher place to win than 30 years ago. Other schools do have issues, but there are fewer issues at those schools or the support system is in place to make them succeed. Gallatin can get there, but the culture will have to change and the community will need to step up and help the coaches out. I know Gwave1 and Thegreatone are willing, but is anybody else? Trust me, it can be overwhelming when you have 10-15 kids with no ride after practice and you aren’t even sure if they are eating dinner when they get home. I know this from experience. It takes up time and money from high school coaches that they often don’t have. You all threw out Oakland and Whitehaven earlier as examples of “inner city” type schools that succeed. I will give you Whitehaven on that one, but did you know they are a magnet school? That enables them to get the best of the best from Shelby County. I watched an interview with 10 of their most talented players on coacht before the state championship game and 6 of them had transferred in from somewhere else. That makes a huge difference for that program. I don’t think Gallatin has any advantages like this, but I am willing to bet the best players from the area 30 years ago all ended up playing for Calvin Short. Oakland is the new Riverdale in Rutherford County. They get all the best athletes from the area and they too had 2-3 guys transfer in this year that were next level talents. Oakland also has a good mixture of well to do’s and athletes. This enables them to get the support they need to run like a small college program. When was the last time Gallatin had big time transfer move in? I can think of a few at Beech, Hendersonville, and even Station Camp. With all that being said, I will eat a little crow. I have been told there were some top notch coaches apply and I really didn’t think that would happen. If Trey Perry really did apply, then Gallatin should throw the kitchen sink at him to get him in green. If they hire a metro coach, then the search is a failure. Those guys are good for the kids, but I fear they would be consistently outocached at the 5A/6A level. If Perry will not accept, Wilson or Watson are your best two choices to get it turned around. Both are young, hungry, and have won at places that struggle to win at times.

  24. Thanks for the well wishing. I don't think the offensive play calling gave the players an opportunity to succeed. I will leave it at that. I think we will be fine next season. We will again be in the hunt. That's all you can ask really.

  26. Reading some of this stuff about Oakland having a terrible wingT offense and not being near as good as teams from other States is comical. Of course Whitehaven was criticized 2 years ago and Maryville has taken lots of criticism. Who cares about other States? Oakland is your 6A Champions. I respect Oakland a lot. Even though they are now a rival to Maryville. I think Oakland is a classy program. When Oakland and Maryville play each other there is respect shown. I don't care what offense Oakland runs. I have seen them run wingT but also spread you out. Their offense is good enough. Oakland wins with defense. What they did to Maryville and Whitehaven is very impressive. Congratulations to Oakland on a state title.

  27. Actually I think WH did get one 1st down in the last of the 2nd qtr. I didn't record it so I can't go back to check. As for Oakland being one dimensional, it was the passing to the flats at the beginning of the second half that got Oakland scoring the second half. I had the unfair advantage of no booze comfortable and warm in bed watching. LOL I am saving the Tequila for tonight!
