  2. Bump, wrestling and life have a whole lot in common. Sometimes you gotta "lower your level".

  3. Good luck to the old coach with his next steps in retirement. I have seen him coach ALOT over the years from teenage baseball to youth football. I had an opportunity to help him a little over the years and reaffirmed the structure he provided and the commitment he demanded set him apart from ALL the rest IMO. Like many youth coaches, the positive impacts he had on the kids and families which he led is immeasurable. It was always about that day of practice and the next game, but it was never only about the practice and the next game. All the years, teams, and relationships make for some great storytelling during the holidays. I hated some of the trash posted on here questioning his commitment to the only HS he has supported for +30 years. Complete ignorance and stupidity on some’s part. Regardless, he remains a WB supporter and will likely continue to be one for the next 30 years. The govs could use many more like him. Good luck Coach! You had many positive effects on so many lives in our community over the years. Im sure you will still be “around”. To borrow something we have all heard him say over the years, “I’ve lived in the same house with the same phone number for 40 years so I’m the easiest sob in Maryville to find.” LOL CONGRATS Rick on a job well done!

  4. Same story, different night, different team. Huntington is a pretty solid team. Greenfield will cake walk to the glass house. Special bunch, once in a hundred year team with that talent in single A.

  6. i think its having a 2 deep team who absolutely refuses to take even a single play off. i favor run heavy, but can throw when needed. teams that play to win. going for it on 4th when appropriate. understanding the feel for each game. the momentum. should win 8 games a year and win 2 rounds minimum in playoffs. no dumb penalties. minimal gangsta stuff on the field.

  7. If a big name coach comes along with a lot of success as a head coach already, I would have to think they would give him a serious look.

  8. Trapped between 3 State Championship level programs with little tradition of anything but sucking. WB will never be a top level program. Just the way it is. Be happy if you can get to 5-5 or 6-4 and make the 1st round of the playoffs every so often.

  9. y’all are wild. it was not a pin. the ref didn’t call a pin, because...(drum roll)...it wasn’t. it was a mistake made by a table worker, likely a student, and mistakes happen. it’s all good. great match, and y’all really need to stop taking away from the match itself by arguing over the finish. who cares. chittum won either way, it was a good match. and i guarantee you neither kid gives a crap about whether it was a pin or dec. nor do they care about y’all arguing over it. let it go.

  10. CCS is in position to move up in a year or so....just need the talent to catch up to them. Same with Webb and CPA....both are getting closer and closer to the limit and one change to it could result in them moving up too.

  12. True in most-all sports.... I know in racquetball, it seems nearly impossible that certain players will ever lose till they meet that one, then that one meets another with similar results. Several tiers till you get to the top. For Tennessee, traditions help in hot beds. Example, Chattanooga area including Bradley Co... Generational improvement,,, Families' contributing n every way. Dinners spent discussing heart and soul commitment & match strategy in line with coaches, not undermining. Father Ryan is much the same from Nashville Catholic on up since the 60's. Tradition+feeders+Alum are huge factors. Kudos to those who do not have the hot bed traditions and yet make the top ten year in and year out!!! PA, OH, NY, NJ, MI, IA are all in, and a few others including IL, CA, WI & UT have also become some of those traditionally higher tier areas. Also: I've been impressed with a few other hot spots in FL, GA and KY, including most recently Union Co and Buford. Finally... Girls Wrestling should help with traditional growth around the country. Hat's off to Soddy and The Hill (+others, hello Rossview) for jump starting Tennessee's move toward State sanctioned girls wrestling

  13. Van Ness wrestled just fine against Delbartons 132 in the dual prior to the dual with Baylor. Blair chose to send Coliaocco out to wrestle 132 and not Van Ness. Why can't we as supporters of wrestling in TN, not support each other on the national stage. Why does it have to be an excuse that Baylor won one match against Blair? Why can't you just congratulate the the team on competing with some of the best teams in the country today? Let me say that it was a great day of wrestling at Blair. Very proud of Baylor for getting the invitation and representing TN as the best team in TN this year!

  15. That is terrible news. Mia is a terrific player and I hope she recovers quickly and is able to return to this game she loves very soon and be better than ever! Prayers for you and your family Mia! No rivalry is more important than the health of the players. I know how hard you worked to get where you are. You will be back. God does wonderful things. Leave it all to him.
