  1. Any broadcast entity, TV, radio, or interwebz streaming, has to ask permission from the home team in order to broadcast a regular season game. It's solely the home school's decision. I've never heard of a school not allowing a radio station that follows a particular school be denied permission to broadcast. There are several schools that don't allow non affiliated radio "games of the week" broadcasts. It's simply to protect the interests of the stations that make a season long commitment to the particular schools. Some schools don't like TV because it tends to completely change the flow of the game. It takes what should be a 2:45 minute max game and stretches it out to up to 3 1/2 hours long, plus games being on Thursday nights when the next day is a school day complicates things. Streaming is still a pretty new concept. I've had ADs and Coaches tell me that it does cut down on their gate. It's really a different day for "media" wanting to cover high school games. Back when I started in radio maybe one of 5 or 6 schools had a radio station that followed their team, and there was one game of the week station in the area. Now there are many more doing games. There was one TV game per week on, and it was on Friday night. Now there are Thursday and Friday broadcasts on TV. And nobody really knows how to deal with streaming, just yet. Some, as was mentioned earlier in the thread, just don't allow it, and at least one of those ADs is one who has told me that he can track that it cuts down on gate. Plus you have websites and some guys with a Twitter account who call themselves "sports media" now, and most schools not named DB or Oak Ridge have small press boxes and limited space available. There's just not room for everybody who wants to cover every game, and particularly the bigger games each week. I foresee the day coming where systems are going to set some type of rights fee for radio, TV, and interwebz broadcasts, most likely set by system administrators and put them out for bids to the different broadcast media. And once the playoffs begin, it's a different day. The TSSAA sets the broadcast fees and rules. And if there are typos in this post, I apologize. Just coming off of eye surgery on Friday and I'm still in the blurry vision stage.

  2. What kind of mess is this? Sounds like that jailhouse fellar saying that Mathis man is saving his special plays. They needed this Baines boy against this Watertown boys. You think im joking but im not.

  3. To all the dads from huntingdon questioning who is the fastest player on the team I will settle it. This person is number 82 and his name is Corieon Nance. He placed eighth in the state in track and field. His time in 100 meter dash was 10.94. For comparison Usain Bolt’s time was 9.63.

  4. Who would win between Greeneville and Alcoa? That's easy. High school football fans in TN would win. Ultimately though, it would not matter who literally won as it could potentially be the two best teams in all classifications period. #1 vs #2. That said though---I would put my money on Alcoa TBH. That is not in any way intended to suggest that Greenville could not beat Alcoa or that Alcoa is th better team. It simply means that Alcoa has an edge when it comes to playing high profile games against intense rivals. And they are not prone to make costly mistakes. True---like any other team---they do make mistakes. But they recover quick and don't generally allow whomever they are playing to take full advantage of them. That, and let's be honest for a minute---Alcoa plays far better teams year in and year out. Greenville seldom plays teams that can give them a proper challenge until the playoffs. It's not entirely their fault that the teams they play aren't better. And I am not suggesting that they load up their schedule with cupcakes or anything like that. I'm merely suggesting that Alcoa plays a couple of teams capable of not only competing with them---but also capable of beating them. However---none of that is really that important in the long run. It's actually hard to say who would win. I would also caution everyone. Right now, it does appear that these two teams are the best of the best. But a lot of that hinges on how good the teams they've beaten actually are. There is still a lot of football left to play, and it's still to early to say who truly is the best of the best. But at this moment, I personally have no problem proclaiming that these two teams are truly special---and quite possibly the two best in TN period. If it were up to me, I think I would be doing everything to schedule this game each year. Both teams tend to just reload every year. So yeah---the winner overall would be us.

  8. I don't think Peabody was over rated. Their as talented as anyone in 2a. Main problem was everybody talking how the Tide was 2 or 3 touchdowns better than the nearest competition. You keep hearing that crap and you lose your edge. Same thing happened to my Mustangs last season. Your lucky it happened to you in the regular season rather than the play-offs like it happened to Huntingdon.

  10. Very well written. My personal opinion is that on a yearly basis, nobody in east Tennessee compares to Maryville first and Alcoa second in all classifications. This year I do think Alcoa and Greeneville have two very special teams.Greeneville has brought their program along very well and any year you can compare to Maryville and the Alcoa team that has beaten them that year, it speaks volumes to the work that has been done to reach that point. As you wrote, there is a lot of football to be played and the Devils have a few dangerous games before they can bring back the gold as we all know Alcoa will most assuredly do.

  13. Please dont take this as being disrespectful. But when the chips fell. At Peabodys home. Gibson was the better team end of story. It may have been the one time out of 10 that you guys played that they could win. But they did it against all odds and as an away game. One thing gained from Gibson should be confidence. The one thing from Peabody humility. Be glad it happened now and not in the playoffs. It's only a blemish on an undefeated season at this point. Only affects where playoffs are played not how you win your next game. You may get your chance to play them again, but if so on their field. Learn from it, Look forward to it.

  15. on a more serious note. I do think this year's game will similar to last year's game. I've not seen trousdale play this year so I'm not going to predict a score but I have a gut feeling trousdale pulls it out late.

  16. I assume you are talking about the 07 playoff game. I don’t the reason they did that but I will give my 2 cents. I have been a school administrator. I can remember working a basketball tournament where two rivals were playing in the championship game. Very hgood aged rivalry. The game was decided on a last second shot at the buzzer. Lots of crazy fans acting very inappropriately. I got both teams in the locker rooms as quick as I could and cut out the light. I had the police get the fans out as quickly as possible. Turned out to be the right call.

  20. Thing is once the playoffs start you need a QB that can throw the ball reliably. Heath is a decent QB but he lacks zip on his ball. If we get behind I don’t believe we can rely on his arm to lead a comeback. Also, he can drive defenses crazy being out wide. They have to pick their poison between Heath and D-Ray. It’s impossible to stop both of them. I think this is a special team. I am usually a pessimistic person but this team has a look that I have never saw a Watertown team have. They have speed and power. Both offensive and defensive lines are grinders. We could have a more than historic year for our little town.

  21. #9 is " you ain't gonna catch me fast". #8 runs like a scalded dog. #7 is so quick you'll tear an ACL trying to catch him. Only thing I'm concerned with is how fast their moving when they cross that goal line !

  22. So upperman beats a team that’s 5-0 that you all say ain’t much good and ain’t played a quality opponent. You beat them and now your already in the semis? Dang if York could have won they’d been ready for Alabama with that logic. I’ll have to say upperman cans out ready to play and that #4 is a baller!!!

  24. I’m from Trenton and it’s getting pretty embarrassing over here now. Adults accusing Gc players of stealing stuff from the locker rooms this and that. Honestly to lose any game especially losing to a rival is hard, but to take it out of social media and crying is pathetic. I’m a proud alumni of this school, and if this is how a bunch of us are gonna act over a game we played like crap on.. then I don’t want any more to do with it. Excuses need to stop and move on. This isn’t the NFL to call a team that went from 1-9 to 6-1 “cheaters”

  29. Ok,so you talked to the parents and they told you why he came? Some of your comments are so silly.I have alot of respect for the SP faithfull but rants like this is childish. We were very content with our team, knowing we get 22 back before the playoffs was just fine with us.You sir make it sound just like all the other butt sore complainers like we were advertising for a RB well that wasnt so.He is here get over yourself and yesi wouldnt doubt one bit others may show up.As i said it is what it is as long as its legal you would take them too.Good luck to you all tonight.

  30. What is ridiculous about this topic is that they moved for the kid! Not to make Greenback better but to improve his chances at playing at the next level. His playing time/ touches has been significantly reduced this season and he is not getting to showcase his talent. He now has the opportunity to come in to a team that will allow him to do that.

  31. If the kid moved then he's legal. Doesn't matter if it is across town or across the state. As long as no one was paid or given any extra benefits then let him suit up.

  32. I think if I was OR I'd rather play a tough game from a different class, that way you don't have to play somebody twice. 6A, 4A, or even 3A (Alcoa) makes sense.
