  1. I was so laser focused on this matchup, the intensity in which it was played, along with how it all unfolded, that I completely forgot about college football yesterday. I believe I just watched one of the best title games I've seen in a very long time. On top of that, half of myself is so jubilant while the other half of me is heartbroken. Regardless of what I've witnessed, coupled with the raw and contrasting emotions that I feel inside, the Sun is fixing to rise and above all else, the Good Lord is Good all the time.

  2. Congratulations Central for winning the 5A title. Also Congrats to Henry County for playing a hard fought game that went down to the last minute. It was also great to see Central this early fall play Maryville in a scrimmage which I could tell then they had a good team the way they played that evening. I also remember a few years ago when Bryson Rosser was in his first season at Central and they were playing 7 on 7 at a big event at Maryville College just before fall practice. I had just left the Maryville contest and was cutting through the back of the college to go to my car. I had to walk by the Central team while Bryson was having a team meeting and I stopped just a minute because I was very impressed how well he connected with those kids. I knew that day Central had finally found the right coach and he would do well there. I sure hope he stays put for a while and the Central fans make sure he is taken well care of. He has restored the fire in a school that has had a rich past in Knoxville Football History.

  3. No doubt the coach is a good man and as I said before, you can't keep every young man from doing something that he shouldn't have.I remember doing a thing or to when I was much younger and a few things since then.I hate that life is so tough on millions of kids and adults here and around the world.I've said many time that if I had the power to make it right, none of us would ever know pain and suffering on this earth.Maybe that's being a blasphemer or not,but it's always good to hear stories like this ,when young men give their time to help others .

  4. Congratulations to our seniors for a great 4 year run and the rest of the team as well. This program has a lot to be thankful for. We have great kids, community support, facilities and good coaches. Also congrats to Covington on a great game. I’ll eat a little crow and say I thought it would be a little easier but I was wrong. The Covington coaches added a few wrinkles to their offense that caught us off guard. Time of possession in the first half was huge. Covington also had several good looking players and they played with a lot of heart. Overall just a great game to watch. Now let’s get ready to get #18!

  5. Excellent performance! Who needs to throw the ball when you are ripping off runs of 5, 8, and 10 yards. Considering last night’s weather and wind, it was imperative they stepped up. Very proud of our OL.

  6. Gallatin played a game against Collierville back in 2003 that was delayed for hours. Due to the long drive for Collierville and the chances of rescheduling was almost nil, they opted to play the game after an all clear. They started about 11:30 at night and it was a great atmosphere. Collierville won that night and everyone was appreciative that is was played and not held over nor rescheduled. It would have been late but I think because of the long drive, that would have been a much better option.

  7. FYI.....if you have a Roku, Diamond Clear has an app that you can d/l and watch in your TV instead of a computer/tablet. I don't think the firestick has an app....but I could be wrong.

  8. We have a lot of the big boys coming out for wrasslin this year. Potentially 6 heavyweights on the roster this year! Hopefully they'll translate that to Coach Water's O-line.

  9. Last I checked....Alcoa football is discussed in the 3/4 A thread. Back to the Central vs Henry Co game.....the wind was a big deterrent in either team establishing an effective passing game. But it was a great game and hats off to HC for the game they played. And hats off to fans of both teams that made it an outstanding atmosphere. Hope everyone had safe travels home.

  10. Oakland was good at the start of the season the were GREAT at the end! That's a credit to the coaches and to the players I'm pretty sure if they had ran pro set, spread, veer or wing t the result would have been the same. As Al Davis said just win baby!

  17. I'm not debating the fact that he would or wouldn't have won a gold ball. No one will ever know. Most likely not. My main point is does Whitwell even have the success they have had last 3 years without what he provided. Same scenario, we will never know. But I highly doubt Whitwell would have.

  18. Think thats where it all started, new Coach just picked up the ball and run with it.

  21. I went to all the games this weekend and had to buy a rain suit so I didn’t get soaked in the rain, do you think Bernard will pay for my Frogg Toggs?

  22. If you buy tickets for an NFL game, or a NASCAR race, or any sporting event for that matter and it gets rescheduled, you don’t get a refund. You bought a ticket for the 5A championship game, and your ticket will be honored when it’s played. It’s not TSSAA’s fault if you choose to not come back. They made the decision based on player safety, and I fully support that. It stinks that it’s not convenient, but that’s life.

  23. Hmm. I think I made myself pretty clear on who I felt is #2... How did you miss that? And there is literally no one else on here posting for MJ... Ok then...

  24. I understand that this choice is a major inconvenience on the part of the fans and even the teams, but you have to make choices based on the safety of the players not the convenience of the fans. As a former player, It would have been extremely hard to play that game at 11 or later. Having been on a bus at 9 and not had a meal since 4, it was not a good situation for the players. So I understand the choice to postpone and think that the choice will make this the great game it deserves to be. Go Big Red

  25. Its the fact people spent hard earned money to ride the fan bus. People carried their kids on the fan bus and do you realize how many kids are heartbroken this morning because they can't see the game?? I wouldnt expect some people to understand this but its the truth. I have personally talked to several fans that was there and everyone said they wanted to stay no matter how long it took to get the game in. People that have money and are rich wouldnt understand this at all. People who are barely scraping by and spend what little extra money they had to watch the Patriots play in the State Championship game are flat out screwed and that's just not right and I do NOT agree with this outcome

  26. All I’m saying is compared to say 2011-2016 6A was down a little. I mean during that time there were so many elite level teams in 6A, this yr there was really Just Oakland

  27. In 2018 MJ was the only team that went blow for blow with the champ. In the end it was the only real challenge Oakland faced. Was at the game it was very evident how similar both teams looked. Only real advantage Oakland had over MJ was the kicker. And it was the difference in the game. Imo I gave Maryville the #2 spot for the victory against Oakland early in the season. I do think it's fair to say MJ earned the vote for #3 based on the finish in a "power ranking". Just my opinion. Go Bears!

  28. ( I’m not from there, I did play against them, yearrrsss ago and played college ball with one of their former standouts who was an incredible football player.) Whitwell is kinda like Marion counties (Jasper and South Pitt) red headed step child and been a whipping boy for good teams in this area often, always tough physical teams just not the athletes to compete, it’s really no fault of their own , they’re at a geographical disadvantage in how their county operates with resource allocation and economically considering their distance an location from I-24 and 399(I think whatever road goes from van buren towards Soddy) They haven’t had more then a couple coaches stay more then one year for quite a while and this group of dang good coaches(all of them) that stuck together when a couple of them could be somewhere else making far more money. Its good to see games like this, from schools that don’t do this often. Someone’s gotta remind the blue bloods the sun don’t shine on the dogs hind end all day.....

  29. Sick for you guys myself... fans and kids alike. It's often said but rarely true that both teams deserved to win, but in this case it absolutely is. I appreciate the way you have supported Cornersville from the time I joined the 'T... classy in defeat, and the same when dominant. Losing a game like today takes a lot out of a true fan, because I know the worst part of your pain isn't felt for yourself, but for the kids you've watched grow into dependable and unselfish young men on the field and off, and because you know that this was the last shot for the group that changed Cornersville football into the foreseeable future. Much respect for your community and fans, as well as that group of young men who took off their Bulldog uni's for the last time today... just remember that they will be back, but they'll be with you in the stands. That's how small town football is, and why I love it.

  32. ChargerFan, your guys are the best team we've played all year without a doubt. I gained a lot of repsect for your team last year seeing the way they played and carried themselves on the field. That respect only deepened this year Your coaching staff is top notch and your program toe-to-toe with Alcoa right now. If you love good football its been a heckuva 2 years to watch the 3A games. I've followed Alcoa for almost 30 years and live for games like tonights. It definitely coulda went y'alls way and deservingly so if it had. Hope to see Covington again next year same time same place. Congrats on a great game and a great season.

  37. Belated congratulations to Oakland for the beat down. I was out of state and didn’t see the score until the wee hours of Saturday morning. I knew Maryville would have a tough time up there but did not expect the dominating score. That is one good football team. I saw the first game and thought this one would be a barn burner. Congratulations also to the Rebels on another fantastic season.

  40. Nothing wrong with the coaches clock management. They drove the ball 50 plus yards into the wind at the end of the game. They overcame 4-5 penalties against them. They also overcame two blatant personal fouls by Whitwell against them that were not called. They lost some time after the clock started on an offensive penalty but officiating was more a factor in that 4th quarter than clock management.

  42. I agree. The officials won this game for Whitwell. Ridiculous!! I am really not for either team but I like to see a fair game. That referee should never be allowed to ref again

  43. Dearest Mother- I stand above looking down on the Great City of Cookeville where the last campaign of the year will take place. It's a dreary day but troops are already amassing. Today it's the 5 headed Red Tiger taking on the Rabid BullDawgs in what may go down as the Battle of the Century. One can only hope that both sides have prepared themselves for the onslaught that will soon commence. If anyone is faint of heart, please look away. This is the battle that all real soldiers long for but only a few get to live and see the Glory. Rest assured that whoever wins today will have earned their place among those that have come before. May God be with each side and may the odds be forever in our favor. Sargent Southtowner-

  44. Ladies and Gentlemen. May I have your attention please? Thank you. This is the event we have all been waiting for. The event of all events. I present to you this day, Dec 1,the 1A State championship, in the year of our Lord 2018. We have 2 worthy opponents in the arena. In the White corner, we have the Red Tiger of Whitwell. The champs of the East. The Cardiac Kids. They are a 5 headed beast. The Red Tiger comes in with an unblemished record of 14-0 with 14 knockouts, eliminating the defending state title holder from last year, the proud Cherokee tribe from Greenback. In the Black corner, we have hailing all the way from Cornersville. The champs of the West. The Cornersille BullDawgs. Also known as The Froggy Bottom Boyz. And known here lately as Huntingdon's worst nightmare. The BullDawgs come in with an identical record of 14-0 with all of them by way of knockout. Shutting out 10 straight opponents along the way. Both teams are undefeated and untied up to this point. Today, something will have to give. We may very well see an unstoppable force meeting an immovable object. These two mighty forces may very well throw the whole galaxy spiraling completely out of control. So get your popcorn ready. Get your seat belt fastened and hold on for dear life. To all the millions in attendance and the billions watching from around the World. LET'S GET READY TO RUUUUUUMMMMBLE!!!!!

  45. I usually respect alot of your posts but the comment "im sure everyone is doing their part to see it happen" is down right disrespectful to me,nation, gfd,LK and our other posters not including our staff.I know for a fact our coaches wont even talk to families, they send them straight to the priciple or AD.You guys arent getting the fact we are small and our laundry is aired and these folks know we dont have 60 or even 40 kids on the sidelines and the 5A school 15 miles from here is terrible,4A Seq is 12 miles and terrible,LC 15 miles.Parents want the kids to be successful PERIOD!Folks are coming because they want to be here.It takes more than luring for a family to pull up roots and sell out to move here.I dont blame them its a great small school and a wonderfull community. Its gonna keep happening, like i said we have to own it.But to accuse us of luring because we put a great product on the field and classroom is wrong my friend.
