  1. I look for a coach that's going to take all possible steps necessary to have a winning mentality, and honestly, not being mentally weak. I have seen this group lay down early in games if things do not work out in their favor. A HUGE weightroom priority. All year-round. If you want to take the next step, the entire team needs to live and breathe those weights and conditioning! No excuses if you want to be a champion. I trust the new coach (& staff) will have a good idea as far as the x's & o's, just mainly wanting to see a winner's mentality when that team steps onto the field. About the only thing I can honestly say about my group's time there, we truly felt that we could, & should win in every game we played. There were no moral victories. I feel that the right coach could bring this program back to being a football team that is circled on every team's schedule.

  2. Didn't want to tag both your posts, so I went with your reply to mine, but I loved your previous statement. Coach Stroup moved here (across the street), and knew no one, so we got to be friends early in his tenure here... I got the same feeling from him as you from McConnell about being "bought in" to the program and community. Not saying that to be negative about your coach leaving/staying, but to the contrary, I still count him as a close friend, and will forever know in my heart that he regretted leaving while following God's path for him and his family. Just as he did much for us, McConnell has resurrected Waverly's program, and the community's relationship with the school. With success comes the offers, and just as Stroup turned down many before accepting USJ's offer, I'm sure that your coach has also... one day, there'll be "the one that he can't ignore" and he will consider leaving. If he feels that his responsibility to his family dictates that he goes, I hope that the fans there allow him to always look back with nothing but good memories of his time there, because both the fans and him deserve that. That's a long way of saying that I appreciate your view of your coach and his priority's, understanding that life doesn't always go as scripted (by us), and that if he does go, it wasn't because he just used Waverly to get where he wanted to be . If it's any consolation, I don't believe that Westview's job is as appealing as Waverly, and unless there's some personal reasons behind the scenes, I can't see him taking that job over the one that he has.

  3. I think if the people of those communities had a better idea what was about to be lost there would have been a lynch mob at the courthouse to stop it.

  4. Worst thing to ever happen to Blount County is putting all those schools together and lost that small community feel. I bet if they could go back in time that wouldn't have happened again.

  5. I watched the Devils in the last 2 championships and think they would compete with anyone in the public classification. I would would be happy as well if that was my squad.

  6. No doubt any of the top 8 teams in the state could beat each other at any given time but I go on what happened during the season to make my judgment. Alcoa is the only team that can make the claim in my book by what they accomplished and going undefeated. Beating Maryville at home seals the deal for me. No one else did that, including the 6a champs.

  7. I agree but what was Maryvilles problem in the semis? Losing Tee Hodge isn’t a 38 point difference imo. I also feel that Alcoa should been more dominant against Covington imo. Maryville was an awesome quality win until that big loss 38-0 imo. Still don’t understand that.

  8. Cool. We needed another thread for this. The 200 page one just wasn’t enough.

  9. The best "looking" team i saw was Greeneville,i am a huge Alcoa fan so i am not saying they would or could beat the Tornadoes.Alcoa ALWAYS steps it up when they need to to get the W and i am sure they would in that instance. But as i said of all the Championship teams i saw play in each of their said games,Greeneville looked the best.

  10. I think Waverly will have a very good year. Now that th so called superstars are gone I think they will work more as a team. That’s what th game is about!

  11. Oakland does base out of the Wing-T, but they are a multiple formation offense. They'll line up in the I, shotgun, offset, etc. Most years it's not going to be an explosive offense, but when used in tandem with defense and special teams, it's deadly. HS version of BeamerBall

  13. Take a deep breath. I think my response was taken out of context, which happens quite often on message boards. I agree 110% it only matters who is at the podium at the end of the season, but like lost fans of sports enjoy following the polls through out the year. It typically brings out great conversation from fans all over the State of Tennessee. I was posting the score in case those that are in charge of this particular poll did not see that Father Ryan and Wilson Central wrestled last Thursday. That’s it. Nothing more. Good luck to you and your team in 2018-19. God Bless you and your family during this Christmas and Holiday season.

  14. You are sleeping on Dobyns Bennett. They could be the leading team out of Region 1 this year. Science Hill lost about 10 of their starters from last season's team. Jefferson Co just won Catholic Invitational, its conceivable DB and Jeff Co could be Region 1 reps at State Duals completely shutting out last year's runner up. I am very glad to see Region 1 in the conversation. All the coaches in the area have worked their butts off to gain some respect and be in the discussion on a yearly basis.

  15. All the polls are fun and at least get some people interested and talking about wrestling. Lord knows the state could use more coverage of the sport.

  16. Who cares about the poll? The only thing that matters is who is standing on top of the podium at the state championships.

  17. Finally one year you are correct, after last year getting smacked by Soddy head to head you still wanted Arlington ahead, so i guess as they say a blind squirrel will find a nut every now and then. As far as Soddy is concerned they are terrible this year hence getting beat by Hixson who hasnt beat them in forever. They kicked off Tony Wilson and I am not sure if Hayden is hurt or just not wrestling this season but without those 2 ranked wrestlers they are not even a good team now, with those 2 they might be a top 15-20 team but without they are not even close.

  18. It doesnt surprise me. They know you all have a heavy home field advantage and they don't want no part of that. Because it probably wouldnt turn out well for them. At the very least you all are being compensated. I think you all can come up and pull it off to be honest. Based on how both of you looked at the end. Obviously BA has the best that money can buy, (at least they are supposed to) but I came away feeling like several top end public schools (in the state) would have beaten them this year. MOJO

  19. It is surprising to see them mentioned on there since they lost to Hixson last week 37-28

  21. Oakland lost to a team Alcoa beat. Greenville has a strong case, but does not have the same high quality win that Alcoa had on Maryvilles home field. Based on what occurred in the field, Alcoa has the strongest case. Again, its all opinions.

  23. There are literally too many things to mention. Numerous big plays the Bulldogs made were negated for imagined penalties while Whitwell got away with a blatant horse collar that would have set up a potential winning play. The need for such a play would not have been necessary if the second Bulldog touchdown had not been robbed. Also, Whitwell’s crazy decision to go on 4th down failed, yet the officials spotted them a full yard or more to get them a 1st down. That should have set the Dawgs up with a 1st and Goal and a likely 20-0 lead if the previous score hadn’t been stolen. There was so much wrong with the officiating in this game that it gives the strong appearance of fraud.
