  1. The deciding match vs Centennial was at 106. SH's 106 came out hard and fast early and was gassed after about 1:30 and the Centennial kid got a takedown and almost a turn and it was very much clear from the stands the SH kid was gassed and done. So clear that the SH coach went to the table to argue something and even after the refs walked away he stood there in order to ensure they wouldn't restart the match. He spent more time standing there than the entire first period lasted. It didn't matter in the end bc the SH got pinned quickly into the second period. Hats off to the Centennial coach for keeping his cool after trying to get them to hurry up and get back to wrestling. SH got beat, plain and simple. If there is one thing I know by now its that you toppers get on here and make excuses for every little thing. Just accept you didn't make the podium and don't deserve a trophy this year and move on.

  2. Lipscomb has invested in the facilities and is hiring quality coaches to compete in D2. The next step is to attract or go get better players. Essentially for the past two years the athletic program tried to compete in a new school league with an old school philosophy. Also I might add with less talent then years past. Everyone saw the results, Its not rocket science they must do what the other schools around them are doing. Its a new day at Lipscomb Academy.

  3. It's hard for me to put into words to the young men and women I coach what it felt like for me to walk into McKenzie Arena and compete in the state tournament. I had only started wrestling as a freshman and had no real knowledge at the time of UTC's history or anything like that, but walking into a college facility with that look and environment...that was just a feeling like no other. Now, I just can't imagine the young men and women today get that same feeling walking into the Ag center and that's what disappoints me. I do see the positives as it is much more centrally located in the state which make travel easier and obviously the cost is unbeatable. I would just like to see a little more prestigious venue to reward our wrestlers for their hard work and dedication. I feel as though it should be a memorable experience for them, and I know that's what McKenzie Arena was for me. Just my 2 cents!

  4. My prediction was incorrect. Game wasn't close. Stone handled cumb. co. pretty easy. And if anything, the refs helped keep it closer than it should have been. 75-55 Final.

  9. well according to science hill even if you don't medal and very clearly lose to two teams you're still better than every other team in the state besides Cleveland. smh

  10. I don't believe there is a clear 2nd... but SH did get VERY close to the finals and then just quit from what I saw. You can't blame the officials for that. Centennial clearly wanted it more.

  11. You have mistaken that the rest of the state of Tennessee cares about this.... way to hijack a thread. SH vs DB is irrelevant. Move on...

  12. FB95, I remember those teams in 93, 94, 95, I had to coach against them a few times in the playoffs. If I remember correctly Cleveland had won 54 in a row at one time. Again congrats to Coach Wheeler and the Cleveland community. WT

  14. And then two days after that Science Hill wrestled their entire varsity lineup. So there was supposedly a miraculous recovery from those who were even too sick to show up at the Dobyns Bennett match. Just a bit fishy.

  15. region 4(Cleveland, Bradley and smaller degree Soddy Daisy) and Baylor McCallie are the top teams in Chattanooga, we have had this discussion before that Cleveland and Bradley aren't Chattanooga but they are suburbs of Chattanooga and tons of people drive from that area to work in downtown Chattanooga. Cleveland high is 34 miles from downtown, Bradley is 32 miles while Wilson Central is 28 miles from Nashville and Arlington is 26 miles from Memphis. These are taken from downtown center. You also have the small school division schools of Hixson and Red Bank that have won state titles recently also. Now for why it's not that popular here, the costs and coaches and interest plain and simple. I coached the girls one time when Soddy went against Red Bank for the fundraiser. Tons showed up for that because it was a one time thing. We had a ton of students that came and it was a fun little fundraiser. However as a seperate girls division itself there just isnt enough interests in it for the money that would have to go out. So far I havent seen a ton of interest when I see there might be on the largest teams 11-12 girls and the money it takes to have those 11-12 to get a seperate coach plus the practice time and such(please let me know if i am wrong and most practice with their boys teams because those few i know do not and practice on their own time). The interests just isn't there, no problem with that at all, cannot force them to wrestle, I will say though that years ago a girl from Soddy did want to wrestle and with there being no girls team she practiced with Baylor's club, but I dont think she ever went to wrestle states or anything.

  19. This is the truth. Especially this past year. I was very impressed how Covington went toe to toe with Alcoa for all four quarters and almost pulled it out. I know all the Alcoa faithful on the T have the upmost respect for that team.

  20. bigger schools fishing coaches from us has literally happened 1 time since, I believe, the late 60’s. or whenever it was that Jim b. arrived. i don’t even count Waggoner, I saw that coming as soon as I saw his resumé. so that’s a moot point.

  21. If he's chasing trophies, why take the GP job in the same region with Alcoa?? Come on, Ambassador, you can do better than that!

  23. Here's my opinion Bass... you are right, but half right. Rang was handed a loaded team, but also did a masterful job of motivating and instructing his athletes. I watched them completely dismantle a very, very good Wayne County team with discipline, scheme, and precision on both sides of the ball. The only meaningful score the Wildcats managed was on a long sideline bomb that Rice dropped in the bucket to his receiver in stride with the DB a half step behind, and he just outran him to the end zone. One play. The rest of the game was a beatdown of one of the best three or four 1A teams in the state, and then they went on to Cookeville and blasted Greenback. The only knock I've ever heard on Rang was two years after he was gone when some of the Dresden folks said that the negative behavior that imploded their Lions this past season was tolerated while he was there also... I saw them play three games in his final year there, and on not one play did I see anything of the sort. If Rang is chosen, Trousdale will get a fine coach who can punch up their offense to a level that could get them back to the pinnacle in a hurry. Whether he would stay or not nobody could guess, but in my eyes, TC is a destination, not a step toward one.

  25. Don’t think either one can go on the road and beat Humboldt. Could be wrong but I see Humboldt winning at home in a substate game.

  26. Everyone in East Tennessee knows the Science Hill coaches surely do NOT follow a code of ethics. Its win at all costs. Plus they "own" a few of the Region 1 officials, three of them, in fact, with the same last name.

  27. Not 100% sure how it went down with Science Hill vs Bradley, but I can say, Science Hills coach went to the table at some point EVERY match against centennial. And after a while it looked like it started to be on purpose about some the give his kids a rest because they were gassing in all of their matches.
