  1. Once again I am going to jump in here and offer you a little help. The Wave Wrestling Club run out of CBHS is inside of 240 (or right on it). We will happily coach kids from anywhere that have an interest in getting started with the sport or continuing their off-season development. I can't even begin to name the number of schools that kids from that club have attended as youth or high school. We have donations of shoes and headgear that kids can use to minimize cost and I can gladly say we have never turned away an individual from the club or an event because they didn't have funds. You talk a lot about needing to find the balance between family and wrestling. Let others in the community help shoulder the burden. No coach has to do it all if folks band together and pool resources. You want to stay involved? Great, come out and help during those practices.

  3. If you are talking about post season from now to the start of next season here is my list 1. Fargo - nothing but nothing compares to Fargo.. the exposure and what it means is huge. Kid AA at Fargo it’s automatic high level D1 offers 2. Super32 - by far the biggest Folkstyle tourney there is there is nothing even close. AA here and it’s automatic D1 offerss 3. UWW 15U world Team trials in Omaha, Cadets 17U world team trials in Akron, and Junior Nationals in Vegas. Yes, UWW added 15U this year for worlds. These are 3 different tourney but it’s just 3 different ages for chance to get on USA World team. These brackets are generally small but it’s the best of the best. It’s a chance to get on world team so placing here is legit and you are on the national latter. 4. Flo nationals - flo moved Flo Nationals back a month so it doesn’t compete with NHSCA anymore and they switch it to free/Greco and now it’s a seeding for Fargo and world team trials. It’s going to be HUGE this year. Every national kid I know is going to flonationals this year. With Flo behind it I think it will pass NHSCA this year in importance. And exposure kids will get this year at flo nationals will be huge 5. NHSCA - somehow they have faught off the competition from Folk Nationals and Flo Nationals and have gotten stronger every year. The exposure that kids got last year at NHSCA was huge. Placing at NHSCA means something especially to D1 coaches. That’s the big 5. I would recommend all kids who are serious about wrestling in college compete in all 5. Secondary Tourneys 1. Preseason Nationals and post season Folk Nationals are legit tourneys and while you get good exposure at both it’s not like one of big 5. AA here isn’t going to get offers it will help build a resume but not great as a stand alone 2. Journeyman - another solid tourney especially if you can get in the A tourney. Again like preseason - a good resume builder and great wrestling experience but that’s it 3. USA regionals - huge for developing wrestling skill in free/Greco and getting exposure but there so many that being an AA or even winning just pads your resume and that’s it. I highly recommend going to as many as possible but great experience 4. Michigan Grappler - tough as nails tourney - Palmer won it this year and it put him on the national map. It’s a solid resume build that will get you exposure 5. Nhsca Duals - always competes with SE regionals but if you only doing Folk(I don’t recommend this at all) this is best Folk dual tourney in offseason. Great experience and tough competition if you can get on a good team 6. Disney Duals - great experience and it’s a super fun trip. It’s Disney so it really fun trip. Competition has fallen off the past 2 years there is really no exposure for competing here that’s pretty much it for big stuff.. I’m probably missing stuff and if I think about it I’ll add them Oh and the USA duals, schoolboy, cadets, and juniors. I recommend the schoolboy but skip the cadets and especially the junior duals. Way to expensive, competition is weak and getting weaker every year plus the format is just to much and to many kids get hurt . Absolutely no exposure at all from cadet and junior duals. Just not worth it at all.

  4. Even if you are losing and you have called off the dogs. You still pretend to play defense and you don't foul. You definitely don't order pizza and talk about getting your nails done. I was waiting for one of the players to pull out her cell and take a selfie or post something on Instagram.

  5. You are correct! It's just like NO CHILD LEFT BEHIND or NEW MATH which both have been proven to be a total joke. If you want wrestling to grow in Tennessee you have to make the grand prize super special. Place everyone back together, have a 32 man double elimination bracket for the state championship in a quality arena and watch interest levels soar.

  6. This might be the most well rounded and closest weight in the state. Daniel very much should be up close to the top, but really all of them are so close that anyone could win it all. Jacob Haney pinned Jackson Bradford, Eason beat Bradford 9-8, but Jackson also beat Gavin Nix 8-4 while Daniel U beat Hix only 5-2, but Daniel did beat Samuel Shires 10-2, while Bradford beat Shires 6-2 Borders lost to Bradford 11-8 and 7-5 while also losing to Trey Bates 6-4 and 5-2 Eason beaten by Holloway by pin and 8-2 by Braman while also Eason beat Braman early in year 8-5 Braman won the title in OT over Holloway the only loss for Holloway who beat Braman last week 5-4. Braman just got better throughout the year(which you hope all do) started by getting beat by Bates 12-5, Eason 8-5, Griffin jarrett and Gavin Nix who both Daniel U and Bradford beat. This weight is a complete toss up on who wins it all!

  7. Never said saylor didn’t deserve it ., Sycamore vs pearl . I just think pearl wanted to be opposite of east . Cant prove it though . Pearl best team over there . East right now are fighting with each other . The other night it was really bad . All on separate occasions # 0 , 23,24 .,arguing with each other and a coach . I believe even 24 dad yelling at the coach ..just don’t know how WH can keep them off the boards ., Harpeth no chance and heritage best chance . A team willing to take a charge and playing their best basketball . Pearl and east in the finals even I would like to see MLK and pearl again in the finals .

  8. Yeah you’re right it’s 3A I’m just so used to these teams playing in Region 4A. TSSAA changes it every other year it seems like.

  9. I only brought it up as those are the common wins. I mentioned East too... Does that mean nothing either?

  10. I think as a family member of a GC player this team has the good Lord in their lives and we give him the glory and I know we pray a lot and put a lot of it in his hands. I know we are very thankful for his blessings and yes we are playing well and we hope to say focused and humble. We are a senior laden team and I think they are really tight knit and really pick each other up. Our PG and others are playing super right now. We hope it continues. Very thankful.

  11. I agree, 6 teams that could play with anybody in the state. Getting out of the region may be your toughest games.

  12. Fisak should be the 1 seed if you ask me!!! In all honesty the seeds actually look really good. I just couldn’t resist throwing that joke out there.

  13. At first glance this looks really bad. At the very least, I thought both teams should have subbed to allow the bench players some time. I then checked the Upperman bench, and realized only 2 or 3 girls didn’t play. It sucks for those girls, but Dana didn’t have 5 subs to put in. If one of the girls in the regular rotation had gotten hurt, then we would all be questioning why she didn’t have them out of the game. Not a great look, but can’t argue with the decision. Upperman still has a viable shot at the state tournament and maybe even a title. No point in risking injury to anyone that contributes meaningful minutes.

  14. I would vote for that venue. It could bring revenue to Nashville and Nashville business in turn can advertise it in their establishments.

  15. What agenda? If you mean I'm being selfish wanting to see a more exciting state tournament that's more competitive and in a real arena as opposed to a cow barn, then ok. I suppose I have an agenda. Maybe it's just me, but I like to get goosebumps at a state tournament, not animal crap dust on my tongue while trying to watch 3 state champions at once. You are correct. Putting it back in one division won't help grow the sport. But splitting it up into 3 or 4 divisions doesn't help grow it either. It was just a weak excuse for splitting put out there by the sissy coaches that said one division was too hard. It wasn't fair. Wrestling should be fair. Having to compete with bigger schools and trying to overcome just doesn't teach kids the right lessons in life. When things get hard just scream "it isn't fair!!!"

  16. There are 5 clubs registered in Memphis per aausports.org Wave Wrestling Bartlett Youth Wrestling (2) Buzzards Wrestling Club Arlington Wrestling Club USAWrestling has these and MidSouth Wrestling Club Elite Wrestling Academy ECS Eagles All within 25 miles of the Memphis area. If you're unwilling to drive even 25 minutes to go to a practice then man I just don't know what to tell you. Of course numbers in Memphis aren't like they are in Chattanooga but they aren't like that in Nashville or Knoxville either. But to me, this all just sounds like excuses. As for the small school split. I don't think ill ever be able to get behind that.

  17. After watching this topic and similar negative WB topics the last several off-seasons... I am tired of it. No, I can't just ignore and hope it goes away any longer. Too many complaints are coming in and I am busy with other sports right now. So, please do not push it any further. I may go back now and delete some posts from this thread. If you have one I need to look at then please use the Report button to send me the info. I hate losing people but when it gets to a certain point I have no choice but to block users and ip addresses. Just want you to know that I am serious.

  18. Just wanted to comment on the part I have highlighted above... if you have kids in the Memphis area who want to wrestle at the youth and middle school age there are plenty of clubs out there that would happily include them. Not a good excuse for not getting kids started in the Memphis area due to lack of opportunity.

  19. You may only have 7 but they are dang good and they play hard! We are in for a dog fight Thursday night! If Dresden stays out of foul trouble this will be a close game. Can Dresden handle TCAs’s low post game will be the big question. Can TCA handle Dresden’s slashing guards? Those are the big factors for Thursday nights game!

  20. This is way too easy and straight forward of a plan for the TSSAA to get on board. It'd have to be way more complicated for them to agree with anything.

  24. CBG I completely agree with you. I suppose I've been trying to say this (among other things) for years but you worded it perfectly. I've yet to hear of any other state losing money by hosting it at a true sports arena. In fact I would love to see how much every other states makes off the tournament as compared to TN. You are also correct that you can do this at the Murphy Center. Sometimes (in fact most times) being cheap has an adverse affect.

  25. Since we have to drive thru region 7 to get to any of the clarksville schools it would make sense putting MJ, Lebanon and WC in that region or we are even closer to region 4 schools than the clarksville area schools.

  26. Most of the growth in wrestling that I have observed is due to new schools being built (established) and wrestling being a sport that is offered. In no way have I witnessed growth from the small rural Class A schools due to the TSSAA offering a state wrestling championship classification for D1 A-AA.

  28. Bump, I usually agree with most of your posts and comments BUT Uhorchuk #4? I know your top 3 are all very even and it depends on the day as to who would win. Braman and Uhorchuk have a common opponent in Gavin Nix from GA. Guess who beat Nix? Im just saying that Uhorchuk might wrestle in the A/AA classification but that doesn't mean he cant run with the "big dawgs" from AAA or DII and if you're asking me, I think he LEADS THE PACK!

  29. So true!! Brent took a 2-16 program he inherited into a 20 plus win team in just a few years! People need to respect this dude! He is a great family man, a real coach, and more importantly a great role model! He is a community man & very active in so many kids lives! So don’t ever talk bad about my coach! It’s so much bigger than basketball! We are family at South Side!!

  31. Because other teams play with class and their coaches don’t act like total idiots. SS had rather punch ya than look at ya! They play street ball with no rules. Are you implying I called them thugs because of their color? Get off the plantation already! This is 2019! If the you think only blacks can be thugs, you seriously need to get out and look around!

  36. CC shot around 20% from the floor against Tullahoma. That’s unlikely to happen again. Vinson is very special and they have two seniors that can put up big numbers on offense. The offense can quickly come and unfortunately go as well. Not a lot of imagination in the offense either. When shots fall they are very dangerous. But when they aren’t, the lack of movement and in game adjustments are lacking. Everything goes thru Vinson as it should, but that’s a lot of burden to put on a Sophmore no matter how talented she is. And yes, you don’t call that foul in the district championship, but CC should have never put their fate in the officials hand. Easily their worst performance of the year. I’ve seen a team that could beat most anyone at times. They beat East Hamilton in a Saturday play day, two days before the season started. They went toe to toe with one of the better teams in FL over Christmas. That team has 2 D1 seniors and the 2nd ranked freshman in the country. Other times, I have thought we couldn’t beat Columbia. Which team comes Friday, I have no idea. Talent won 20 something games. Talent, coaching, and execution will have to take them forward.

  37. Petronie mastered another championship , even though might have went into cardiac arrest when his players jacking 3’s up 6 late . All honesty this game cane down to pace and coaching . Petronie won both .? WH should have been pressing whole game since Heritage didn’t have any ball handlers . Guarantee Maplewood coach saw that tonight . Maplewood s only chance to beat them . 5 had one good look to take the lead and another desperation at the buzzer after a timeout .,Not sure what the play was . Again coaching . Hats off to both 4 seeds for winning the championships . Even though I put pearl under investigation maybe wanting to avoid east in the semi’s . Well maybe now they both get to go to state anyways .

  38. Don’t know what happened !! I can just imagine these days . If coaches worried more about discipline than winning , we wouldn’t have kids questioning calls or showing their butt as another person said . Yes refs need to do their job . So do coaches and the kids . Coaches work the officials kids play the game and hand the ref the ball and go on , not all the questioning and body language . Not all coaches are like this , but a lot are . Sad where our kids are going . I will discipline my kid if the coach won’t . He will respect refs or he will sit . He will learn or he won’t play .

  39. As a Cornersville parent, I agree that there will be some drop off, but don't underestimate them either. There is a ton of talent that has been standing on the sidelines for the last couple of seasons. Those guys that had to go against those seniors every day in practice now get their shot to see what they can do in starting roles. Think about this...they have gone against the 2nd(man that hurts to say) best team in the state for 2 years. Not only were they pushing those guys to be better, they were getting better themselves. Time will tell where it all ends up, but I believe they will be better than people think, only because people don't know what is there.

  41. Interesting! Sounds like another Hawk hater! I don’t have a dog in the race, but every time I get on here, someone has something negative to say about SS or counts them out for whatever reason. How? Have they not proven they’re the best around here? Lexington split with CC and SS whooped cow turds out of Lexington 2 out of 3 times! The first time, the score really don’t show what the game looks like. I’m a Madison High supporter but I know good basketball when I see it. I don’t think Crockett has a chance, better yet, anyone in this area! SS has the Miller girl that obviously no one in the district respects, but they are loaded with talent! Good luck with that prediction! Lol

  42. If 9AA ever had a chance it would be this year . Maplewood not that good . And sad east or pearl will not make it to sub state now . Most likely meet in semis . Loser goes home . I like MLK don’t see them beating pearl making them the two seed facing Sycamore in region . Would not shock me if they pull the upset since they have guards and a great coach . Mlk might just be too quick though . I honestly see the winner of 9AA beating maplewood and the two seed getting crushed by east . Harpeth at pearl name your score . 90-30 if they want . Nice to see some posts . J we will agree to just disagree . They need # 5 in the mix if they want to make a serious run . With both 4 and 5 getting their shots from their spots they are pretty tough out . With only 4 shooting 20 times a game and 5 5 times its do or die on one player . Coach at sycamore game put ball in 4 hands at end of game when 5 hadn’t missed a shot whole game and open for game winner instead 4 shoots contested shot not even close . They have a great record but really only should have like 4 losses . This team is built to contend with 10AA with # 4 but not by himself . The first four min the other night they played as a team . If ever could play 32 like that they could be scary . Anything short of region final is another underachieving year . I guess these days it’s hard for kids to play for each other . I feel sycamore plays that way well at least the 4 times I have seen them play in two years

  45. Huntingdon upset West Carroll last night so the War Eagles have to travel to district 12 for a first round region game. Somebody in 12 gonna have a tough region opener. McKenzie played really well last night. They're a very strong team that's gonna be a tough out for any of the 12 squads. Rebels have size and quickness and are playing their best ball now. Huntingdon is about as good as a team can be that doesn't have a starter over 6 ft. They're a pesky bunch that play really hard. West Carroll should have beat us 15 points but they didn't.

  46. Sycamore is the class of the District. Congrats! They play @ East Nashville on Friday. They played East earlier in the yr and lost by 13. They'll be battle tested come District/ Region play. The same kid at WH that struggled at Heritage last week (only gm under 10pts all yr), also went for like 34 against Heritage earlier in the yr. They go as he goes, period. Of their 24 games, he's played in 16 of them. They're 11-5 with him. 4-4 without him. One week left - we'll see how the seeding shakes out. #2 spot is still up for grabs.

  47. My point exactly , Guess all their kids graduated . WH Coach has to take the leashes off if they are to have a chance at sycamore . I have watched about 10 games this year . Looks like he has let them play a little more , and until that embarrassing loss at Heritsge they were moving in the right direction ., Who is their best player , some will say new kid from Gallstin . I don’t agree , pretty much single handily a long with the coach lost that game . Shot nearly 2-20 from the field . Too much 1 on 5 anybody else on the team gets pulled for that . They have to get Ward more shots . For a kid that has multiple schools looking at him based on his last 3 years . He looks like a player that has lost the confidence in his shooting and his best part of his game is driving and looks like coach has told him to stop doing that . Ward has started all 4 years and increased his average every year till now , lucky to average what he did his freshman year . Saying all that I barely ever see him forcie Shots still hits the open man . The best duo I believe is J Mac to Dustren down low . Once he gets it is two points . He is crafty enough to take it to sycamore bigs . I still believe the key is how Octavian and Ward shoot the ball from 3 . Sycamore hard place to play and game moved up to Monday night .
