  1. Actually just the opposite. Go back to smaller community schools instead of busing kids 16 miles from their home. You would have tons of community support and be much more successful. Look at the model Greenback (close enough)and Alcoa have in the same county. Kids are academically successful, happy, have tons of community support and team state championships. Blount county had a state champion from a small community school just a few years before the consolidation travesty . In 40 years that followed consolidation, well the record speaks for itself.

  5. Oak Ridge's own Alex Meyer did an interview with Coach Gaddis for WBIR TV. Great job. Coach says we will be stronger because the players have worked hard. The Wildcats will be a more grind it out / clock controlling offense. A couple players mentioned the team is in better physical condition this season. # 26 mentioned that the team has let games get away from them late. My guess is he was thinking about the Catholic game last season. Based on the entire Interview the participants are ready to get the games started. The one fact that I was not aware of is the Cats have 22 seniors this season. Senior leadership can go a long way in having a great season. It is getting closer and closer to KO and Oak Ridge, YOU GOT THIS, RWR!

  7. I’m just messing with ya bud but that RTD dude thinks those are the only teams worth a hoot in 2A this yr. I mean I like his picks but Saying those 3 teams are on a different level than everyone else is just crazy at this point.

  8. What makes you say that? What level is that? Why only those 3 teams? A little early to be bumping gums like that!

  9. Then I don't recall talking to you. I don't care where you're from, if you don't like our restaurants, then eat in your own town. It's simple. If you like Billy's, eat there. I don't like every place there is to eat in Maryville, but guess what? I keep my mouth shut about it!

  10. I think you'll def see improvement. Maybe they can provide a challenge to Beech in year 1. I think once the players have had a full off season under Watson is where the big leap forward comes for Gallatin as a program. Oakland is at where I expect Gallatin to be in a few years

  11. They wouldn't be.

  12. Nope, the starter was a senior, however, he was a first year starter. The starter this year did play some later in the year as an 8th grader.

  14. Yea but that's up to the coach.

  15. If they feel like they're too good to eat at Big Ed's, then they should eat in Maryville, or better yet, stay home! I disagree with Willie, I think it's still great! If there's a better pizza place in Maryville, I' haven't heard about it (maybe they prefer the pizza from their local Shell station)

  16. No No We play Portland in week 2 so I can give you my opinion of them in a few weeks. Last season Macon County was a TD better than Portland. Macon County was outscored 61-7 by Trousdale and Westmoreland. Trousdale should breeze past both this year.

  17. Heritage and W.B. should attempt to merge into one team or both drop football.

  18. I will admit I have heard a few say Big Ed's has lost a step over the past few years. However, I still think the explosion out of the oven is still there and well worth the ticket. One thing I understand is that all the decorations on the wall probably do nothing for an out of town visitor. The UT stuff would be of interest to some though, My opinion is go to Big Ed;s, enjoy the company you are with, order your favorite pie and drink and then watch an exciting scrimmage. Oh, if I were a Maryville fan, I would sit on the Oak Ridge side due to the sun being in the visitors' eyes.

  19. Back in my day we were the first group that brought in the Red Riddell Helmets that looked like Alabama for close to twenty years and done away with the old ones that had to be fitted and had the rope webbing inside.

  20. Didn't know that the TPS campus still existed. Back in the mid 70s I played on one of the first "travel baseball" teams out of the Knoxville area. We came to Nashville and played in tourneys at TPS several times. Remember playing against Nashville area teams Shoetiques and Huffine Electric, among others. Great memories.

  22. LMBO, Waverly will mash them. The only team between Waverly and Cookeville this season is that semifinal opponent named Peabody.

  23. Love hearing more about the wave. I’ll be in gallatin week 1 this year hoping to see a good game. And from the sounds of things in the gallatin scrimmages it will be closer than a lot of people initially thought!! Should be a good measuring stick for both teams early on. I need to get to a gallatin scrimmage in person to be able to give a solid prediction. But I plan on getting up there soon. Go wave

  24. I was not sure how well they would look after losing the big 3 to graduation but was very impressed with their performance last night. I was most impressed with QB Brooks #15. He is young but came out commanding the offense and slinging the ball. He runs extremely well also. Waverly was VERY physical on both sides of the ball. The OL DL are big strong and experienced. The backs Houston, Ingram, and Stewart are big and physical. The receiving corp looks pretty good with B. Stanfield,G. Stanfield,Stewart, and Christman. Even though everything was very basic last night the physicality and effort that those boys displayed was refreshing to see. Looking forward to the Gibson Co scrimmage Friday. Waverly hasn’t fallen off like some thought they would. They just reloaded.

  26. Some kids like De'Aree McDonald didn't even get offered. I understand they have to recruit nationally but TN is bursting at the seams with talent and would hate to see instate kids be successful at an out of state SEC program

  27. Been looking forward to this ever since I found out about it last spring. This will be a good contest for both teams to find out how they each have learned from the first scrimmage games each other had the past Friday Night. Back in my day Oak Ridge ruled the roost and that is why I have so much respect for their program and their football history. Looking forward.

  29. I love the optimism. This is how you have to view things as a program trying to make a name for themselves and rise from the bottom. I agree that WC will be improved and that they are on a good path to improvement. It’s just so hard in that region to try to get victories to make the kids believe. Hopefully it will come one day!

  31. A few tidbits on coaching in Metro I think everyone that knows football realizes that East is the king of underachievers. Never has anyone done less with more. The lack of discipline and fundamental preparation kill them in games where the talent level is more equal. No way they should have lost to Fairview. Chris Hughes just out-coached them. The staff at PC does indeed have some fracture. They may work for Brunetti, but that doesn't mean they believe in him. And that is straight out of their mouths not mine. That being said, PC does indeed play anyone. Never seen them turn down some really good teams. Look back through the years. MBA, CPA, Mount Juliet, etc. They will take on anybody and I have mad respect for that. Overton's student population has turned over so rapidly the last 5 years. They just don't get the level of athlete they used to. It will really begin to show up this year in football. Probably 2-3 more years in baseball. They ain't the tea sippers anymore. McGavock has 2000+ students but can only get 40-45 to play football. Gore does a great job of teaching the game, but just can't keep his zoned kids in the building. Antioch/Whites Creek Glencliff/ have had multiple coaches the last few years and apathy has taken over.\ Hunters Lane hasn't had any talent in the building since Campbell left. Hillwood was a .500 team just because of the coach's son and now both are gone. Hillsboro=FItzgerald. The name alone brings players to him. His son brings the rest. Coaching link LOL Cane Ridge- Always had talent out there. Woods got them to buy in. Of course, the number of kids suddenly appearing in purple from other places is staggering. No hate. Just truth. '

  32. Hi All, My name is Brody Faler and I'm the new head coach at Ravenwood High School. I'm new to the area (from Washington State in the Portland, OR Metro) and looking for help in getting things together. I have two main questions: 1. Girls Wrestling: I am looking to build up a girls wrestling program at RHS. I have coached at two schools that had strong girl wrestling programs and am sold on the benefits. Does anybody know of a lady in the Nashville area who would be interested in helping start a girls program? Wrestling experience would be ideal, but general knowledge of the sport is all that is necessary. It will be a paid position. 2. Club Wrestling--Youth Coach: I'm starting a club program based out of Ravenwood and have a head coach for middle/high school wrestlers, but do not have someone to coach youth wrestlers. Does anybody know of a knowledgeable individual that is interested in helping start a club and head up the youth portion of it? Some pay will be included. Thanks. I look forward to getting to know the TN wrestling community. Feel free to shoot me an email. Brody broderick.faler@wcs.edu

  33. If that wasn't enough good news, the scrimmage is FREE and so is parking. However, Big Ed's will cost, the Concession Stand food will cost but I am trying to get the clowns who make balloon animals to lower their prices.

  36. And another thing. It's a shame that our coaches have always coached respect, character, and dignity into their player's and you, someone that lacks all of that is the mouth of the team..

  37. How many snaps have you taken as a starter? How many two a days have you been through or summer workouts? Zeeeeerrrrooo. Stop knocking other programs and the hard work the kids put in. You're using Greenevilles success to stroke your own ego. As a former devils football player I have nothing but respect for Betsy. Even if they win one game this year that's one more football game then you've ever won. Have some respect for the game and the people that have actually strapped up dude.

  39. I would like to say I'm surprised but I'm not. Easily the worst run football program in RuCo , maybe in all sports. Keeping Stanton Stevens around this long sends a clear message that LaVergne cares nothing about putting a product on the field that the community can be proud of

  40. They may feel like they are gonna have a hard time going up against nearby programs like Alabama and Georgia. But I have wondered it in recent years as well. Why they tend to focus so much on recruiting the west coast than they do in their own backyard. It would seem to me that I would rather have a kid ranked slightly lower that was a local with some skin in the game in regards to region pride and tradition.

  41. Its funny the people on here saying that it doesn't happen and quotes the rules lol Who knows how many kids are going to school and "living" with family in one zip code and going home to another zip code every day. I know people do it outside of athletics for other organizations and academics. Surely nobody is naive enough to think it doesn't happen for athletics.
