  5. Some objective info on Dobyns Bennett and playoffs. 2001 10-0 DB loses in R1 to 5-5 William Blount 2003 9-1 DB lost in R3 2004 10-0 DB lost in R3 2005 9-1 DB lost in R1 2006 10-0 DB lost in R1 to 6-4 WB 2007 DB lost in R2 by 3 TDs 2008 10-0 DB lost in R1 to 6-4 McMinn 2010 10-0 DB lost in RD2 to 7-3 Bearden 2011 10-0 DB lost in R2 to a team that lost by 5 TDs in R3 2012 10-0 DB lost by 3TDs in R3 2013 DB lost in R1 2014 8-2 DB lost in Rd 2 by 34 points 2015 DB lost in R1 by 46 points to a team that lost by 5TDs in RD3 2016 Db lost in R2 by 4 TDs 2017 DB lost in RD3 by 5 TDs They have beefed up their schedule in recent years and in may pay dividends this year. But I can't get past the fact that WB has 4 playoff wins in 40 years and half of them come against 10-0 DB teams.

  7. Just going to be honest with the HC posters on here... I was very impressed with the progress your team has made in the last calendar year, and was happy for the Houston County fans to finally have a solid team to root for. I'm sure that the Irish have improved since the Scotts Hill game, but let's keep it real here... the score at halftime was 13-7 after we gave y'all a gift and threw an out route pass to the corner at our twenty five. I knew before the QB released the ball that it was a pick six if he pulled the trigger. The bottom line is, we're just not nearly at the level where a team of the caliber that the Irish posters portray them to be would struggle with us, and you did until our lack of depth showed in the fourth. Be proud of your kids and support them with all your heart, but a little humility would serve you well until you play the elite level of teams in our classification. Houston Co. is coming into their own at a great time... the entire western side of the state is down save Trenton Peabody, and a "decent" team only has to get better at the same rate as everyone else. In the recent past, there was a long list of western division teams that were at Peabody's level, that you had to deal with to even get into the post season. Adamsville, TCA, Union City, McKenzie, Lewis Co., Riverside, Trenton, Waverly, and even my Lions (SH) were formidable opponents, and they're just not there at the same level right now. Not trying to rain on anyone's parade, but just give it a break with the championship talk until you know where you stand.

  8. We are at the mid point in the season for a lot of teams. The region races will start playing out and it will be play-off time before you know it. I just want to look at each region and start looking at who is a contender and who may get to be a dark horse. 10 teams in 5A are still undefeated Beech, Cherokee, Gallatin, Knox Central, Knox Halls, Powell, Summit, and Knox West at 5-0 and David Crockett and Rhea County at 4-0. Region 1 vs Region 2 picture Region 1 has a 3 horse race for the top spot at this point with Cherokee, David Crockett, and Tennessee High. The battle for 4th place in the region will sort its self off since the 4 teams that are battling for it will play each other. Region 2 Like Region 1 region 2 is at this point a 3 horse race for the top spot between some teams that could make some noise in the playoffs. Knox central, Knox Halls, and South Doyle will battle out for the top 3 spots. Knox Carter and Knox Gibbs will be fighting it out for 4th in this region. If the playoffs started Friday (based on current standings) Cherokee vs Knox Carter Knox Central vs Tennessee David Crockett vs South Doyle Knox Halls vs Daniel Boone Region 3 vs Region 4 Region 3 at this point is a 2 horse race between Knox West and Powell for the top spot. Oct 18th will pretty much decide the region. Oak Ridge could challenge for 2nd but they are going to have to have some luck and play a great game on the road at Powell. 4th place currently is Karns. Karns still has to beat Campbell and Clinton to seal the deal but things are looking good for the beavers. Region 4 its pretty simple Rhea vs Soddy will decide the region. I’ll admit it Rhea has surprised me a little starting 4-0. Soddy has also surprised me with the lack of offensive production in 3 of their 4 games. I look for WV to beat Lenoir City for 3rd. If the playoffs started Friday (based on current standings) Powell vs Lenoir City Soddy vs Oak Ridge Knox West vs Walker Valley Rhea Co vs Karns Region 5 vs Region 6 Region 5 I think Page and Summit will be the game that decides the region. However, the rest of the region will be interesting to watch how it plays out with Columbia, Shelbyville, Lincoln County and Franklin County. Region 6 Is pretty much a 2 horse race between Gallatin and Beech which is going to be a great football game. Hillsboro I think is a solid 3rd but could get 2nd if the beat Beech. Hunters lane I think will round out the top 4. If the playoffs started Friday (based on current standings) Summit vs Hunters Lane Beech vs Columbia Page vs Hillsboro Gallatin vs Lincoln Co Region 7 vs Region 8 Region 7 I believe Henry County has this region won. Kenwood is off to a 2-0 start in region play but there is still a lot of football to be played. Dyer Co, Northwest, Clarksville, and West Creek will decide 3 and 4th. Region 8 Region 8 is a two horse race with Southwind and Ridgeway. 3 and 4 in the region will probably come down to Mumford and Kirby maybe Overton too. If the playoffs started Friday (based on current standings) Henry Co vs Kirby Ridgeway vs Dyer Co Kenwood vs Munford Southwind vs Northwest

  9. Given that OR had a 30 year headstart, I'd hope so. All the respect in the world for OR, but it's been almost 30 years since they've won a title. In the playoff era ( which is the only part that counts imo) Oakland has just as many titles as OR

  12. Remember back months ago I asked the HC faithful if we could meet up in Cookeville again this year? I’ve followed y’all so far this year and I was worried at first but it seems y’all have got it together. Would love to see another matchup if we can hold up our end of the bargain.

  14. This game would've been a lot of fun the anytime in the last 5 years.Of course the one really down yr in a while it would happen.I hope just half of the normal Oak Ridge crowd shows up but its really hard for the people who don't get off work before 5.Hard to justify missing work for a game that don't mean a lot.It would've been a lot of fun to see some of the past Oak Ridges playmakers go up against a really good D.Oak Ridge just don't have the offense this yr to beat a really good team.Plus our best player on defense has a huge cast on.I just hope Mt.J is more of a running team than a passing team.I love that our young players will get reps vs really good comp and it will only make them better for the future.RWR

  16. 1-Maryville no one else close. 2-DB, SHHS, Farragut, Bradley Central & McMinn County. Bearden?? Any given night any of these teams could beat the other. DB would have at lease 3 L's with Science Hill schedule. Bold Prediction. Bearden beats Farragut this week and Science Hill beat DB and Bearden to win the conference and be the 1 seed for the playoffs. The tough schedule for the HILL pays off the last 2 games and playoffs. The youngsters that were inexperienced early in the season have grown up. If we limit the mistakes we may be playing Maryville in round 3. Take nothing for granted this year until you get to Maryville anyone can win. NE TN Ranking 1-Crockett 2-Betsy 3-Greeneville 4-DB & SHHS 5-TN High

  17. I think that the game is a mental thing first. Greeneville has won ( please correct me if I’m wrong ) ten out of twelve. Has won the gold ball four times. They have the “we can win” mentality. Betsy has “I think we can win” mentality and that’ll cause a small amount of reservations. History shows that Betsy has played more conservative against Greeneville then in other games. So before I’m called out for this, the 2017 game Greeneville had a 3 nothing lead. EHS is down near the goal line and faces fourth down. Needing about a yard and a half ( if memory is correct ) and he goes for a field goal to tie and not bring in a bigger set to say....”we’re gonna score a touchdown here..” and take a lead into the half. To me that showed they were “hoping” to make it a game. Now this is just my opinion and others may disagree. But that Devils “D” locked down and the Devils answered with 21 straight before a late TD score by Betsy in the fourth. EHS had less than 100 yards rushing and just couldn’t stop the power running game of the Devils. I think the edge is clearly with Greeneville and the Cyclones will need a huge game to get the win. Different defensive sets now for Elizabethton has made this team a different animal. But can we handle their line for four quarters? The ground and pound rushing game with the “can happen at any moment “ passing game to some very athletic receivers will cause the Defense to stay home and cover the entire field. Not sure how our secondary can match with their wide outs. I do think EHS can pass the ball well enough to be competitive but have to keep a good run-pass balance. Greeneville has some big motored ends that get a lot of pressure on the opposing QB. Can we give him enough time to throw? Will remain to be seen.

  19. That wasn't the point Pinocchio007. Greeneville has never ran from competition and i would hope a School the size of Oakland (over 2,100 students) and Greeneville (900 Students) would win more times than not. That hasn't kept us from playing Maryville, Alcoa, Fulton (In their championship runs), etc. It's good for the top program in the state to play each other. Last year game would have been a dog fight and that has came from other fans outside of Oakland and Greeneville. Greeneville had quite a bit of D1 Talent last Year (Wake Forest, Army, UVA, ETSU, Marshall, Furman and UT). It's a thing called matchup's and Greeneville was tough to match up last year with how well they ran the O and D. unapproved website has it as a 3 point game if last years teams met. This year Oakland is probably 3 TD's better than Greeneville but that still doesn't mean the teams wouldn't play each other.

  26. I thought one of y'all LC posters said Sonny Moore had the Falcons with a stronger SOS. Doesn't appear to be the case. I just want to know what you believe really sets the Falcons apart? What do you have that makes you think you can make the run to Cookeville? Tanner Snyder... Puckett... defensive play... offensive play...? Not saying you can't, just curious as to what you think.

  27. I would love to see HC back in the WaveYard!! But there is a ton of football to be played before that could even be considered. Our road is much tougher to try and make that happen. Beech will have a ton to say about that as will Shelbyville, Summit and Page not too mention Hillsboro.

  30. As long as Bowers is involved at Ensworth, they will place their emphasis on sports. IF they happen to have those that are academically talented, well, that's just a bonus. Their mission is on athletics. Baylor and Mccallie... there mission is more of an academic nature. But, you're right. It's no IMG, but they could make a significant splash in a few selected sports. Much like Notre Dame (South Bend variety), if students don't measure up in the classroom, they ain't going.

  31. Should be a interesting game. Im going to agree with Swarm. Rebels have alot of momentum rolling into this game. I have not seen them play this year so I could be completely wrong. I did hear that they fumbled on 3 straight drives in the redzone against Sycamore to give the game away. I looked at past years and it looks like SC has always struggled with Camden, so who knows. It would make for a interesting showdown last week of the year against Fairview for the title if they can pull it out though. Potentially having a worst to first type scenario. If anyone has more info on SC, please share. Thanks

  34. that might b a wee tiny bit of a stretcher right there.....but sure seems like they could for sure do better in the state of TN than 1 FB Championship a piece....specially with only 9 other schools to contest against ...that bein sayin.....ant many FB Gold Balls come to the Chattanooga area period.....if that tell U anything....hopefully this is the year one of them can get that 2nd trophy Booger just sayin

  35. My son played under Carr and Reed and i do love both those coaches but to say that 5-5A is the weakest region in the state is flawed, Summit, Shelbyville, and Page are all currently top 10 in the state in 5A! That is half the district currently in the top 10! The old 8AAA district would be the best option for all these teams in this area!

  36. We so skeered we play BOTH teams from the championship game last year...AFTER we had a 1-9 season last year. People said we were out of our minds. Give us a bit of credit...the only teams to ever put us out of the playoffs are South Pitt and Huntingdon. I'm not ashamed of that when you consider we started playing varsity football in 2013. I like the way the program is going and expect some great games ahead for our teams. Be patient.

  42. DB has played mostly teams with losing records, but still they deserve credit for remaining unbeaten, and they will easily win the rest of their games until Alcoa in the last game of the regular season. And it is too early to start that thread, but I'm not sure even Alcoa can beat DB this year. Even the mediocre teams they have played, they are completely blowing them up on both sides of the ball. DB may not be really tested until round 3 when they meet Maryville. But let's just see how the rest of the season plays out....

  43. Fayetteville will be ready to play. It's a long ride up there. We travel pretty well this year, even so. The last time we played there a kid told the team as they were getting off the bus, "Y'all sure came a long way to get your (expletive deleted) kicked." It shook some of our players up that a 90lb kid had that kind of swagger. Our coaches thought it was great! It's a fun story that a few of us old timers tell every year. The ride home is not too bad if you win. On a side note, the kind words and statements of support and prayer for our community and school family are much appreciated! Go TIgers!!!

  44. All the people on here saying SP completely wiped the field with MC... SMH! Rose colored glasses huh? 1 possession game in the 4th quarter. 40 yard difference between the teams in total yardage. Only thing, is MC didn’t convert and catch passes when they needed to. And what in the name of football was MC doing on defense? A huge gap left open in B-C gap all night long. SP had 2 lead blockers and ball carrier running through that gap without being touched. Terrible scheming on the defensive side. As for the offensive side, y’all can say whatever you want but Swafford wasn’t Swafford Friday night. However, we didn’t see that Meadows kid playing like that. He turned it up a notch. SP defense is fast, physical, and relentless. But they didn’t see the Swafford we saw. The first down run while being stopped 5 years in the backfield and still breaking it for 20+, that’s the #19 we saw all night. All that said, SP is still ranked #1 for a reason. We’ve both got a ways to go before then but if the time comes, we’ll square off and see if we can land some haymakers.
