  2. This is just my two cents but if football has 5 semi-finalists and 3 finalists in each class with 6 classes why can’t basketball do the same with 3? Makes no sense to me.

  3. The official has no choice but to make the call on what he sees! He cannot turn a "BLIND EYE" to something that is obviously taking place in front of him. Now I would not encourage the official to go power trip and begin looking for problems prior to the match. As far as a coach reporting a weight cutting violation that is something that they will have to live with. Being a coach at the event I would never/ever go and get an official and bring it to their attention even if it was the state finals. What I would do is find the coach of the wrestler and tell him that he has a wrestler that is cutting weight illegally and that if the official sees this taking place he will be disqualified. If the wrestlers coach continues to allow the wrestler to cut weight illegally and the wrestler gets caught that is then on both the coach and wrestler.

  4. Both wrestled Schroeder from MBA in the State Duals- both won by pin. I like Alvarez although Spell looks very strong and wrestles with an edge (2 penalty pts Vs Schroeder in 1st period). Alvarez has wrestled Whitworth very competitively (have not seen many be able to do this over the years) and took him into OT at the Regionals where Whitworth won 5-3- and I think when they wrestled during the season Whitworth won 6-4. I see Whitworth Vs Alvarez in finals...and this match should be close. Interestingly, Spell did not wrestle against McCallie in the first round of the state duals, but did wrestle in later matches- so did not face Whitworth.

  5. Union City vs Dresden Looking forward to watching my Lady Tornadoes in the big area setting. Wonder how they will handle playing under the pressure of meaningful tournament games. I think they are the 2nd best single-A team in the region. They will have a chance to prove it this week. Jada Williams is a handful for any team and the freshmen Bonds is the real deal. Playing on a longer and wider floor should be to our athletic advantage. Good luck to everyone still playing.

  6. Does anyone on here really believe the coach that reported this has 100% abided by the "code of ethics section"? Give us all a break. How many coaches have 100% abided by the hydration test. Reporting 100% accurate weights for every single weighin. Looked the other way when kids used plastics. Given special treatment to wrestlers they've had in class on weigh in or match days. Gone to other teachers and asked for they're wrestler to be able to do make up work. I could go on and on and on. Some, of course are more ethical than others. But NO ONE is 100% ethical - only Christ. There's just too many gray areas because there's too many "rules". And we're human beings. We're flawed. I'll go ahead and say it. The coach that reported this is 100% wrong and should be ashamed of himself. This is no way excuses the wrestler for not abiding by the "rules". The old adage lives - "he who smelt it probably dealt it". In other words whoever reported this probably has more ethical issues than most. He'll get his. What goes around comes around. On another note, the coach of the kid who was disqualified needs to implement a simple team rule. NO ONE leaves for the weigh ins until they are on weight. PERIOD.

  7. The older sister got a tech last night for something flagrant I believe. Just saying they can play slow when they have to but a lot of their buckets were in transition last night. They may play slow against yow but they are a guard oriented team that is athletic that to me would do well up tempo.

  8. Not very good imo. District 10’s top teams pearl Cohn and East Nashville are better than sycamore and White House but who knows honestly. I expect these four to be the 1&2 seeds in the region. I think sycamore would have the best chance of upsetting a district 10 team in the region quarters or semis because of their size, but White House is a good sound team as well. Both teams have a chance anything can happen! It would be nice to see a district 9 teams go to sectionals!

  9. Do keep in mind that Miller and the ref were within the rules and Ethan was outside the rules. Then why did I bother posting is the next obvious question? IMO a coach should let the officials officiate and the coach's concerns should fall upon their own. As for me I couldn't do this to a kid right or wrong. If that hints at a lack of ethics within myself as a sideline participant in this sport then I'll live with that.

  11. Why on earth would a “responsible” weight cutter be losing weight for me a one day tournament if he’s already .6/.8 under? Why should the wrestler in question and the coaches of the wrestler not be punished for blatantly disregarding the rules? Why are we questioning people who were following the rules? It all seems a bit backwards to me.

  12. I got to say I probably saw 4 or 5 kids cutting after weigh ins this weekend and I never once thought of going and getting an official to turn them in.

  13. Good point. I just wish a lot of this processes were thought out more thoroughly and that every kid, coach and team had a fair shake. Local media, writers and talent scouts in all areas of TN support and push kids because of a name, school name, what circuit or team they play on and so forth when those players are not always the best players.

  14. I don’t know. Bradford and Gleason played each other last night and they may disagree. These two have been after it for a long time. Summertown and Loretto I know is great too. Whoever wins the District Title I believe will have one foot in the glass house with the others behind them.

  15. I read/watch a broad variety of the news. To think that one side, whether it's left or right is reporting 100% accurately, one has to be drinking the koolaid. I believe our hopes, answers and most of all the Truth, do not lie either left or right but straight above.

  16. Let me get this right??? You are a coach? You should know the rule that when weigh ins start, all weight cutting stops!! You blaming another coach when your kid was breaking the rule? Correct me please if i am wrong, but the only finger pointing should be at yourself, right? Why bash or criticize another coach on public forum because you got caught breaking a rule? That seems crazy to me!

  17. honestly i do think Willet beats Lemons. i think Tanner could beat anyone not named Isbell at this weight. and as a middle tn guy i hope him or fort come out of that side and we get an all middle TN final with Isbell. however i had to go outside of the box some to keep things interesting. it makes for good discussion! Lemons is solid when he’s on and i think Dobyns is in contention for the podium so he’ll have some momentum for the team race. he might get pinned..he might lose in OT, or maybe he’ll pull it off. who knows? one thing i do know is it’s gonna make you watch that match now and wanna pull this up and respond no matter the result.

  18. The most recent common opp that I can see is Jack Revere of BGA. Spell pinned him in the 1st, and Alvarez beat him 13-7. They both also beat Miller from FR by pin

  19. Huntingdon was the 2nd best in 1A last year. I watched So. Pittsburg play Greenback and Huntingdon was more physical than So. Pittsburg and Lake County ran the ball on them just fine. LC was the most physical team on both sides of the ball last season. Imo the state title game was played in Huntingdon in the semifinals. I am not taking anything away from So. Pitt or Greenback both were very good teams. Lake County was the best team in 1A last year and there is nothing to debate about it. LC will be right back in the mix this season also. Looking forward to the 2020 football season.

  22. @rlh They have picked up on the word Shuffle. I coined the RIckey Shuffle years ago. @Roy Dillard I have heard there's a large group at the Crossroads with buckets collecting money. Mainly from little fellers piggy banks and babies milk money. They're all wearing red caps initialed MWGA. Anyone have any ideas what MWGA means?

  23. The problem with that is a lot of the time folks on here do not agree with the district and region selections. How in the world can the be expected to agree on the MRS basketball selections? I would say that if character and academic's paly a part in the selection that may effect some players. Depending on what the measurement standard is. If you have a outstanding player with a 2.5 GPA and a slightly less player with a 4.0 GPA is that enough to make the switch. Hard to tell without a true guide of the selection criteria.

  24. I'd like to see some light at the end of the tunnel so I can have hope that a lot of this mess goes away or dies down somewhat. It's time for a lot of folks to get some new material.

  25. Cleveland dropped an overtime heartbreaker tonight at Maryville 62-60. Had chances but just couldn't quite finish the game. We are peaking at the right time though. I also heard we won the coin toss to finish 2nd for the 3rd year in a row.
