  1. No the growth of TN wrestling as of late is directly related to the growth in youth programs. Start young and grow with the program and the high school program grows. It has zero to do with adding a small school division.

  2. Any time you have two posts in the paint over 6’0 and can score that often it is very concerning. We had two battles with them. If they handle the ball well and get some production from their guards they will be extremely dangerous. I think outside of Greenfield it is very open this year and whoever grabs the bull by the horns will get the two spot. We lost Macey Neal and let’s be real. That don’t help us. I still think GC can make a run but we are going to have to be fully engaged every possession on both ends and get some help off of the bench with our young talent. Difference in last years team vs this years is last year we could win ugly games. Not so certain we can win ugly games this year.

  3. that’s the exact opposite of what it is. it’s much harder to place in GA and PA and CO and other big wrestling states. more people in the bracket doesn’t make it mean more or make it harder. if anything, it waters down the competition. a lot of states do what i suggested. there’s 2 tournaments before state to ensure the best of the best qualify. the quality of matches at the state tournament in other states is much higher. i go to the Colorado state tournament and watch when i can and there’s first round matches that are championship caliber matches. you don’t see that often in tennessee

  4. You won't get proper seeding until all teams are required to properly put all their results in Track.

  5. double elimination was a good step. next step has to be proper seeding. i also think going to a 16 man bracket would be smart. have 4 regions divided into 8 districts (2 per region) and have the top 4 per district go to regions and then the top 4 from regions to state. i’ve seen region brackets where some weights have 3 kids. kids getting byes all the way to the finals and it’s crazy. these kids don’t have to earn it they are automatically qualified cause there’s no competition in the region. it’s not very fair to some kids in a stacked weight in a region, that may not make it, but may deserve it more. just my 2 cents!

  6. The updated Pin TN rankings are pretty spot on from my perspective (especially at #1): http://www.pin-tn.com/?page_id=1207 The only weight I think will be interesting (as it relates to the top #1 of the ticket) is at 170lb- how will Jacorey Miller fair in this weight class moving up from wrestling in 160lb all season? I think it may be a stretch to put him at #1 here. I think it will be between Cagle and Garriques. Garriques has wrestled Cagle pretty tough in the Regionals and should be a good match. At 145lb, not sure if Radpour is #2 here, will be a tough match for him Vs Robbie Barnes in the semis. But Anthony should take the Championship. Same with 152lb, although Anthony Manella won the Regional (great win for him) will face a very tough Lawrence Madson in the semis. Should be a great match...but either will be runner up to Garrett Bowers. We will see....

  7. At least it’s not a pig tail! Like back in the day! Lose and have to see if that guy wins or not! Could be worse.

  11. Tell that to the multitude of coaches who don't.

  12. Ok let's be honest and say that overall the top wrestlers in Georgia are better than most of the top wrestlers in Tennessee and one of the main reasons is that the population base is almost double that of Tennessee. The problem with GA is that they have 7 divisions and that waters down the competition. Tennessee had the opportunity to become a very competitive wrestling state but we now have 3 divisions and that really weakens the competition level.

  13. There's 7 divisions in Georgia. You'll never ever ever be able to convince me its more difficult to medal in that state than in Tennessee. I've seen kids go to tournaments in Alabama and beat state champs and medalists bad then come back here and not even hit the podium. More divisions DOES NOT mean stronger wreslting.

  14. interesting. i mean, if it works, it works..but it’s not a necessity. i remember when i was in school and we’d have our home tournament, and all the coaches would come the night before and sit in a room and do it all. technology is taking over the world. but the “lack of results on track” isn’t a good excuse. it was done before track, it can be done without it.

  15. I think she could be the answer for the Tigers if given a fair chance. She won't be fired because a few delusional fans go nuts after losing to a bitter in county rival, but she won't ever be successful either if her players have to go home and listen to their parents, relatives, and neighbors run down her ability to coach. Players have to believe in their system, and they have to give their best effort for it to work... long term this depends on support from the community and the players for Coach Bowman to succeed at Lexington.

  16. In their only match-up at 170, Miller defeated Cagle in a great match 3-1 in OT at the State Duals two weeks ago. In their only match-up at 152, Madson defeated Manella in a great match 3-1 at Ryan in the Dual.

  18. Shelby Bowman is a good coach. If Lexington will give her some time, she will get it done. Can’t win without talent and you can’t win if basketball has been a back seat sport.

  19. Shot clock in high school is ridiculous. Patience on offense often levels the playing field for teams with less talent. It creates strategic adjustments for the more talented team and shows great discipline for the team slowing it down. The team with more talent has the choice to pressure their opponent or sit back and let them be patient. Coaches have to coach more at high school level without a shot clock than they would with one. Shot clock would only lead to a ton of bad shots and more blow outs. The game is for the kids, not us people watching.

  21. I have attended HS basketball games since 1990 by estimation between 600-700 games between both boys and girls. In that time I have seen less than 5 games where a team held the ball and stalled the game for the entire game. It’s very rare to see. Also in that time I have seen a massive amount of blowouts and mismatches where you feel bad for the kids getting embarrassed. A shot clock would make blowout more likely and larger and hold no value to sportsmanship IMO. Forcing bad teams to take bad shots would create more blowouts. If if you want to watch basketball with a shot clock, and where athleticism dominates, walking and carrying the ball is normal watch the NBA.

  22. High school basketball is the worst (fundamental wise) that it's ever been. Kids come into the 9th grade and can barely advance the ball while being pressured without carrying, traveling, illegal dribbling, it any combination of the three. Most have no clue how to run an offense. A shot clock would be the detrimental to the development of high school basketball players in this state. On the other side, folks, y'all don't want BillyBob from the crowd running the shot clock. The game clock gets screwed up multiple times a game, but barely any one notices because the game clock only DIRECTLY impacts one possession a period. A shot clock directly impacts every single possession. Imagine 10 or 12 possessions being screwed up a game directly by the shot clock operator. You would need a trained/paid shot clock operator for it to work. A lot of schools don't have the money for that (thats not taking account Of actually having to purchase install the equipment) and, quite frankly, we don't have the bodies to do it either.

  23. That’s BS, first as an official now for another sport there is always common sense. Rules are in place for the safety of those participating in the sport and truthfully that should be the only rules in place. Not some stupid not cut weight during weighs in or bringing your straps down after a match(unless you show your butt by doing so, which is what the rule should be). I do agree that if a refs see something like a kid cutting weight during weigh ins(not sure who the idiot was that came up with that stupid rule to begin with) does have to call it, however if a coach see’s that be a man and not a pu$$ and tell the wrestlers coach to put a stop to it. Instead we have a weenie coach taking it upon himself to turn a kid in. No way I can live with myself if I did that because I took away the chance for a kid to wrestle. Of course I guess I shouldn’t expect much more from the school that gave us Steve Spurrier.

  24. You are correct in that the blame is 100% ours. I'm not a coach but highly involved. Jimmy made his choice and I have no problem, zero, in stating his choice on a public forum. I'm sure he stands by it. Nonetheless I'm very very surprised it went to the level that it did. Edit: I changed my original post to make it more clear we are at fault.

  25. Here's the thing. COach Hamm does the rankings for FREE and on his OWN time. it chews up a lot of his free time which isnt much to begin with. Anyone can start a rankings and feel free to do so. Coach Bray used to do one as well Its hard enough to do rankings when you do have extra time on your hands let alone coaching and traveling with your own high school team and if you would believe it: Having a job and Working and raising kids and being newly married ( to a wonderful woman. He sure fooled her)
