  1. Calvin is a good athlete. If you put him in the Cleveland or Bradley room for one year he would not only win the state but may TF or pin his way through the tournament. You have to be in a good room and compete against good competition everyday.

  2. They can! Through all of us working together to get everyone to that level. Joint practices, welcoming other kids to clubs, promoting clubs, helping with transportation, providing funding to start these programs, etc. it won’t be tomorrow, or 2 years from now, but starting with getting excitement and selling the vision at the high school, trickling it down to the middle school and youth programs. As we can see, our national brand of Tennessee wrestling is improving, but we need to keep pushing and finding more ways to help each other out. The only way to get better is mat time with kids that are your level or better than you.

  3. I'm not sure I see Dyersburg beating Westview this season... the first time they played (without Callins) it was a close game that Westview led start to finish. The second game was controlled by Westview from start to finish. I'm not sure Dyersburg has enough outside of Newsome and KK to be able to beat Westview. Westview is well coached, fundamentally sound, and has a kid that can go get a bucket whenever she wants to.

  4. Just like in the interview with Kevin Dresser (Iowa State) when he spoke of coaching 17 or 18 years in high school before becoming the head coach at Virginia Tech. You must micro manage everything that high school wrestlers do including personally weighing them 4 or 5 times per day. If a coach begins the season doing this and is consistent throughout the season the kids will make weight without any questions. If a coach leaves it up to the kids there is a chance that a kid will break and not make weight. Not too many years ago failing to make weight was unacceptable behavior and if a kid failed to make weight a coach could put them off the team forever. With the soft parents we have today it appears to be ok with kids not making weight.

  6. I couldn't disagree more....but it's way too much for me to get into tonight... Maybe one day I will feel like hashing it all out here on the T....just not tonight. All I can say is that one man's trash is another man's treasure. Good luck to all tomorrow.

  7. also shoutout to @Hamm. as much as people complain about rankings, he’s pretty spot on. only 1/28 finalists is unranked (Though previously ranked), #1 at all but 1 weight is in the finals, 25/28 are #1, 2, or 3, and 6 finals are 1 vs 2...with an additional 5 being 1 vs 3. great job hammbone

  9. Oh yes, and now you’re not teaching the basics as much to start, but how to become more efficient with what they already know, different set-ups and perfecting the craft rather than learning the craft. Yes! And when you have teammates who understand your strengths and weaknesses, you do not have to depend on your coach so much to be so in-tune with what needs to be corrected with all the kids, because your teammates will have the knowledge and experience to help “coach” in the practice room and watching from the bench/stands.

  10. That’s so true and very underrated. The room you practice in matters.

  13. actually upset is an UNEXPECTED defeat, not sure this was all that unexpected so you would be wrong, ALSO unless I am missing some brackets Calvin is only a 1 time runner-up and 2 time placer being 5th 2 years ago and 2nd last year, so he wasn't a 2X runner-up. As far as Bradford not placing before, he is a 10th grader and he didn't wrestle a ton of varsity last year(although he did pin Kolin Koss who he faces in the semi's tonight) so it wasn't an upset and Bradford is very much the 2nd best wrestler in the state and has wrestled Borders pretty well earlier in the year at GP West getting beat 7-4.

  14. Dang. I leave for a few hours and they crawl out of the woodwork talking about me! Our game went almost exactly the way I said. I guess I should have known we would miss a game tying wide open layup. My bad. We turned over the ball WAY too many times. Both Hampton and Graves had great games. Our bench was solid. We led almost entire game. We just didn't make plays in the final minutes and they did. Hampton had like 38 and carried them to a win. What about that White County win. That was a huge upset. Good for them. They definitely needed that. Should be a good game in the final. We were planning on playing Stone the next game anyway. I guess we get to play to see who goes to BC. Hope we can send Stone down to meet the BC Bearettes. That would be nice.

  15. That’s true, but they barely escaped against MLK the other night. Probably lucky to win considering events at the end of the game. In saying that, they are still playing, and got the shooting and post play to pull an upset somewhere. Plus they would be home for the region semis and finals.

  16. Do know Scott’s Hill and Chester County are hit and miss. South Side and McNairy have been off a while. I know Crockett played Dyersburg tough. Never know. I agree a little on the conservative side. Never really know. Tournament time some coaches seem to play slower too a lot of times.

  25. @DCRealist @Iceman2000 let’s look at some DC history starting with the last time they made the region tourney. 2012-2013: 30-7, (11-1 in district, T1) lost district championship to LA, lost region championship to LA, lost in sub state to Howard. 2013-2014: 16-14, (4-10 in district, 6th) lost to Cannon in district tourney. 2014-2015: 19-15, (3-11 in district, 7th) lost to Macon first round of district tourney. side note... 4 wins against Boyd Christian and got 5 more wins against home schools during HOF games, 4 games in one day 2015-2016: 13-20, (1-14 in district, 8th) lost to Cannon in first round of district tourney. 5-0 after HOF week playing 3 homeschools in one day. 2016-2017: 7-20, (3-11 in district, 7th) lost to Smith County first round district tourney. 2017-2018: 13-14, (6-8 in district, 6th) lost to Watertown first round district tourney. 2018-2019: 6-23, (4-10 in district, 7th) lost to Upperman in district quarterfinals. 2019-2020: 7-21, (3-11 in district, 7th). Just my opinion but you haven’t hit an all time low. Finishing 1-13 in district and 8th to me would be all time low. You have not been good for a long time. Looking at your schedule, it looks like they need to take the AAA’s off and try to get some region opponents or just more competitive teams but I wouldn’t schedule a bunch of home schools either. Having an overall winning record is good but does it matter if you still finish 3-11 and at the bottom of the district and lose in first round? Trying to pin it all on one guy seems a little unfair. You guys act as if Sanders walked into a loaded team and completely botched it. If in a year or two they haven’t done any better then I would say you could look at making a change. It is still high school basketball and the coaches have to work with the hand they are dealt. Yes they have to develop the players but players have to develop themselves also and buy in. Which can be hard when you have parents coaching from the stands...

  26. I have attended HS basketball games since 1990 by estimation between 600-700 games between both boys and girls. In that time I have seen less than 5 games where a team held the ball and stalled the game for the entire game. It’s very rare to see. Also in that time I have seen a massive amount of blowouts and mismatches where you feel bad for the kids getting embarrassed. A shot clock would make blowout more likely and larger and hold no value to sportsmanship IMO. Forcing bad teams to take bad shots would create more blowouts. If if you want to watch basketball with a shot clock, and where athleticism dominates, walking and carrying the ball is normal watch the NBA.
