  1. Greenfield won by 6, in a home environment, after our girls enjoyed a 2.5 hour bus ride. Big accomplishment. Congrats.

  3. All Hoofkin left when he went to Arkansas was an inexperienced team. What's confusing is how you think Haywood underachieved when only three or four players off last year's squad had any experience at all and two of them were injured. The team graduated 32 seniors off a team which had enough talent to win a state title. Entering last season, the team had no quarterback with game experience. Haywood got as far as it did by getting players out of the halls (Markeston Douglas) and getting the most out of some kids who didn't see the field the previous season (Andre Robertson). A kick at the end by a normally reliable kicker on a wet field was the difference. We will see how the season goes for coach at Rogers Heritage after an 0-10 season last year before making the "great coach" tag more permanent.

  4. First and foremost I am not trying to dictate what SH does with the wrestling program. What I am saying is what I would do if I were in charge of the program. With regards to helping out I am 400+ miles away so like you there is zero chance that I could help on any level. But to answer one of your questions as to finishing 6th in the state individuals and top 12 in the duals; yes, as the head coach I would be depressed and my feelings would be hurt. I have never participated in anything that I did not want to win the championship. Until everyone in the program hates to lose more than they like to win you will continue to finish 6th and 12th. Those are just the facts of how things will play out.

  5. How do you figure? You will go to 10 nationally recognized tourneys for two or three of your kids and let your other kids suffer and quit? I said you do tough tourneys for the elite kids and do some dual tourneys so there are multiple matches for all kids and then have easier tourneys so your rookies or not as elite wrestlers get more matches and your elite kids still get the 1-2 tough matches. Like I said it’s a balancing act. Not sure I would want to have only 2-3 kids on my team because the others got tired of losing in the first min. of every match. Not sure that would be “enjoyable, and worth it” for those not as talented kids. You have to prepare all your kids and get them better. It can’t always just be about your best kids or your program will be run into the ground. Not everyone is equipped as Cleveland, Bradley, Baylor, etc. so how you all run things will be different until others can have 7-10 years of experience coming into high school. Not everyone has feeders like Higher Calling so you have to take that into consideration. As you know, tourneys are usually won in the CONSOLATION bracket, therefore your elites do their thing and win it all while you not as “elite” kids have to be prepared to be better and run through consolations. If you don’t prepare the ones that aren’t elite you probably won’t win the tourney. Not saying coaches not enter tourneys know they won’t win, they just don’t enter them every weekend to help ALL kids.

  6. You deal with those fools (TSSAA) on Lebanon Road in Hermitage. I have said it once and I will say it forever, you don't need former educators operating a multi million dollar business. They simply are not trained to run a business much like most entrepreneurs are not trained to be teachers. The problem that I have with the TSSAA is that past behavior in a good indication of future behavior. The D2 schools in Tennessee should not walk but run away from the TSSAA much like the prep schools in other states did many years ago. The only thing the TSSAA cares about is the money the D2 schools pay into the organization. You can go to several other state tournaments and watch a first class event but when you go to the Cow Palace you see just how cheap and second rate the TSSAA is in its present form.

  7. Are you serious? Get the student section under control? Student sections are supposed to be out of control. Have you ever watched a Duke game? You need to take the blinders off and come down off your high horse and actually watch and listen to your own fans and I am not talking about the students. The adults tell opposing players they suck and don’t deserve to be playing against Greenfield. You always want to get on here and talk about how people act but never mention your own crowd. Lastly, Shane Sisco spends his time coaching his players and they respect and listen to him. His players act right and play the game hard and they win. I know now you are going to say just let you enjoy this team because your school is so small and it doesn’t happen very often. So enjoy it because your time is coming.

  8. This post hit the nail on the head. Greenfield fans are the sorriest and most jealous fans in West Tennessee. I sat right behind many of them. They were scared in their seats last night when the THE U C Lady Tornados were throwing a curve ball in their little district party. I might add, Union City Student body shows up to support their fellow friends and students athletes in competition no matter. All tournament long, the Union City student body is there for both boys and girls teams. It says a lot when Dresden and Gleason student body comes over and joins the Union City kids cheering section when they realized Union City was not going to just hand the district title over the Greenfield. It was obvious looking from the opposite side of the gym over at the U C Student section. What does that say for Greenfield, their students and fans? AND, about coach Sisco, if you can't beat him, watch him. I'm sorry for Greenfield folks only have their girls basketball team to root for during sports when most of the other schools have multiple sports that are competitive and respected of their winning traditions both on and off the playing fields. As for the game itself, another couple calls late in the 3rd and during the 4th quarter that held back Union City, protected the two Greenfield miss basketball girls and their undefeated season, we would have been talking about a win. Greenfield is beatable, that was proven Saturday night. Union City just didn't win all 4 quarters. Greenfield will be contested in more games to come. They will get tougher with more is at stake and on the line. They for sure are not above being beat. That day is in the near future.

  9. ...seems like a year ago that I remember Greenfield chanting "over rated" to the Lee girl from TCA. I wasn't at that game, but that was the big hub bub last year. I didn't think anything negative about either student section from what I heard last night. That's part of the hometown support and no one was offended last night, except for some soft skinned parents.

  12. Just got word from an administrator that Loretto has 470 students listed this year. Our graduating class for 2020 has more students in it than what will come into next years 9th grade class. I hope this will put this to bed on the classification issue. What's even better is all of our players are homegrown too !!!

  13. Just a reflection of today's society... people would much rather teach their kids to "take a dive" now and go deeper in the tournament, than grit their teeth and take your best shot at knocking off the bully. Doesn't seem to matter about being the best that you are capable of, just matters where it appears that you are at the finish. To me it's the cowards way out to see it as a strategic maneuver.

  16. I would be sick to see Gibson County purposely lose any game or be excited about losing any game at any point. I don't care if we did have to play Greenfield in the semifinals, I'd look forward to the challenge of playing them. I don't care much about losing, especially on purpose...

  17. No problem. I'm friends with several of the Greenfield and Martin folks due to family and thru basketball & summer leagues. I believe that "kid" from Greenfield is actually a gentlemen around 65 or so on here talking all of that noise. Sadly, he assists in putting a "bullseye" on his team's back when he starts calling out other teams. Gibson County doesn't pay him any attention. He's a blinded "hometown" loyalist.

  18. Don't get too caught up in his A/AA/AAA warped thinking. In basketball, only 5 team players can play on a court at once...so if you have a strong 5 you can go, typically the difference occurs in players 6-7-8-9. He's been on a 4 year tangent about Westview being "scared" of Greenfield (even though they've only played 5 times in the last 20-21 years) and you know how bad WV has been in the last decade. lol. It's laughable to us coaches and people that know basketball and read these boards, but "hometown" pride will override logic and being able to be objectionable about your own team's limitations for a lot of fans. It's sort of like the "small dog" or "short man" syndrome. Gotta BARK BARK loud and chest thump...even if your players can't back it up. Typical small town rhetoric that real programs ignore in the grand scheme. A, AA, AAA will all have good State Tournament games this year. Everyone else on here respects Loretto and "yes" I watched the Greenfield/Loretto game at Westview. Loretto had more to do with how Greenfield played compared to how "bad" that Greenfield played on their own in the first half. 99.9% of us respect your program and appreciate what all of the good teams have and actually understand basketball from an objectionable perspective.

  19. Both teams are real good teams. I hope they play 8 quarters when they meet again. 4 won’t be enough.

  20. He is a pretty good coach. It all started when I said Haywood got the right coach now in Coach Smith. Which I think majority of people would agree with. In my opinion Coach Smith is a greater coach than Coach Hook. Smith has proven it at Germantown with I believe 2 undefeated regular seasons in 6A football. Then his first year at Haywood they made it to the semifinals in 4A. Not to mention the part I hate most is Smith has 3 straight wins over my Patriots of Henry County which is very impressive. The man is proven and it is just a matter of time before Haywood is lifting that Gold Ball.

  21. Take that and smoke it? Lol. This coming from the lame kid that professed Loretto's lazy lob passing team would lose to Greenfield by 20 last year. Loretto's lazy lob passing team beat Greenfield by 18, on a neutral court, when it mattered. You're quite the keyboard warrior.

  22. What was wrong with the Greenfield chants of "over rated" last season against Lee was that they occurred in the post game awards ceremony. That was way wrong and very unsportsmanlike. Based on that, some Greenfield adults should not complain about another teams student section giving them grief. JMO!

  23. No way! I was there, SH played probably their best game of the year! McNairy was just the better team! The refs called the game pretty fair both ways! I seen a lot of missed calls both ways!

  24. If you play ball, it doesn't matter. Seems you think if Greenfield plays well and Loretto plays well, Loretto won't have a chance. This is laughable, but, tis your opinion. Loretto will be great for years to come. And I'm thinking, just like last year, they will shock the masses again this year. GL to everyone. Gonna be fun

  25. So you think the refs cost Scotts Hill that game?
    1 point
  26. I think Loretto and Greenfield on a neutral site is a slight Greenfield edge because they beat them earlier or a pick em. All depends on draws on how this thing plays out. Never know. Going to be 8 teams up there who can knock anyone off on a given day. Always is!! I agree Greenfield and Loretto are the two favorites but even that is not automatic.

  27. Summertown doesn't have a weak spot. They have a very tough and big/strong post player. Top to bottom, they handle the ball as well or better than any team in A. Great 3 point shooting team. On a good day, they can beat anyone. Their PG got rattled in the District Championship. I won't go into detail, but after a poor choice early in the second half, she never came back in the game (not sure why). I'm sure if she played the rest of the game, the score would have been closer, but Loretto just played on another level. If everyone contributes for Loretto like they did last night, even Greenfield will be playing catch up. I realize Greenfield is the favorite, and deservedly so, but if both teams bring their A game, it will come down to who wants it more (or how 1 sided the refs are... lol). IMHO, Greenfield or Loretto will be your A State Champion this year. And the distance between Greenfield and Loretto isn't as far as most think.

  28. Yes sir you made your point loud and clear and I do owe sommers an apology for not doing my research more thoroughly. I will take the high road and admit my mistakes as I always do. So Sommers, I am sorry for making the false accusation towards you and your research. I will be more careful to not break the golden rule in the future and I will try to keep my nose out of the business of others in the future and thank you for taking the time to keep the wrestling community updated. You gentlemen have a fine day.

  30. You do understand that the definition of insanity is to continue doing the exact same thing while expecting different results? If I were Science Hill and began every season with high expectations but failed to perform at the State Tournament I would change my approach. Yes, some kids/families are going to get their feelings hurt but if you want to be a state champion you must cut your losses and pay the price. It's unfortunate but you will lose some good kids & families while on the journey because they are not mentally tough enough and are not will to pay the price for success.

  31. I see Summertown as a composed, solid team that doesn't make a lot of mistakes. Nothing flashy, but a team you have to play clean against or you're beat. Huntingdon is just the opposite. Faster but doesn't take care of the ball as well as they need to. Fillies play very good defense and can shoot the three. Fillies will have to be on top of their game to have a chance to win. Summertown may be a little better team but the Fillies are a dangerous bunch.

  32. Kudos and my sincerest apologies sir... I remember your team(s), and others up that way like rossview, Harpeth, Ashland City, Montgomery Central, Clarksville NW, Sycamore, Springfield and others (just edited/added... like traditionally stronger and most recently Bedan/Isabel's Clarksville) I believe I'm forgetting... It actually is thrilling to see the results of the hardcore dedication that you, Coach Hamblin and others have put forth showing TN those sweet fruits of late. I'm having a senior moment regarding your busting my chops 10 years ago (maybe 20 yrs?) and would certainly welcome a reminder, ol Wrestling Patriot. Please feel free to post anything I randomly miss. It Is not my intent to leave anything I find unposted and especially to show any partiality whatsoever. Kudos to those of you that have peaked at the right time of year and may others who did not return with a vengeance in 21&22!!; Regards Soms

  33. In all seriousness, congrats to Coach Smith and his six Bradley State medalists. Bradley is always tough, and probably always will be. I am gonna bask in the glory of 3rd place for a while longer now thanks. Well technically Da Bears 1976 is correct. Cleveland is in Bradley County, so the road to state does run through Bradley County.

  34. Well, last night showed that 6-AA is not inconsistent. The top 2 seeds play for the Championship on Tuesday! Red Bank is impressive but high-flying "dunks"(and they made a few) only count as 2 points. Tyner handled themselves very well and closed the game out decisively! The 1 point loss to Brainerd by Tyner in the regular season seemed to do more good than harm!! In my opinion, Tuesdays game is a toss-up. Although the Rams beat Howard twice, it was only by a total of 7 points. Regardless of the outcome(on Tuesday), I refuse to throw Chattanooga basketball "under the bus''!! I will save my judgement after the season is concluded!! Still a lot of basketball to be played!!

  35. We lost to Springfield because of youth. The team that went to state we lost 32 seniors from that team. I agree hookfin got us back to the haywood of old. But let it sink in that coach smith had 6 months... and got them to the semis

  36. Sommers, I know you don’t like me because I busted your chops once 10 years ago but don’t slight my kids because of it. Recheck your A/AA final team scores and see if you skipped anyone. I’m sure the good folks at Greenbrier wouldn’t mind recognition as well as Harpeth, Creekwood and a few others. Thanks. Sycamore War Eagles

  37. That’s amazing! What I love about this sport is sacrifice (from Bowers) but the grit from Evan. Wrestling teaches you when the going gets tough, that doesn’t mean you stop going.

  38. Rather than bashing the TSSAA on what we think they are thinking, let’s approach the TSSAA with why Prep Nationals is good for these schools and how it helps the state of Tennessee and even get kids from other states into our prep schools. Why can’t this also be brought up in the coaches meeting state-wide? If the public school coaches take interest in this as well, this might make more of an impact?

  39. I agree but even coming down to the Cleveland duals, Mccallies tough tournament, Father Ryan etc, there’s a lot of Instate competition that they could attend. Kingsport DB attended the Cleveland duals this year and i feel that helped them a lot also.

  40. Last year in 14AA Q. Miller from South Side was by far the best player in 14AA and arguably one of the top in the state. Over 2000 points in career & school record in points & steals. So high school POY & COY process is filled with so much hatred! A 4th place team got POY & the same 4th place team got COY! As they hosted the district smh! It’s really embarrassing that the kids are getting punished like this!

  41. I will agree that Dresden played with very little sense of urgency as well and had some mysterious stuff happen but Gleason’s play was so obvious they had no intention of winning. It was pretty bad. That is all the crowd was talking about.

  42. Good game but let’s get some things straight here. What have the students done that they need to be “under control” for? Saying things to get in opposing player’s heads? Boo-hoo. Cry me a river I might have to go get my kayak. Also, they’re just kids. If Greenfield had maybe a little bigger school they’d have a bigger pep club and it wouldn’t be any different than Union City. They would say and do the exact same stuff. There’s no denying, Chants and Cheers from a large group can change an outcome on a game. It can easily be intimidating to an opponent and energizing to a team. All fun and games so quit complaining. Second, what has Shane Sisco done that has your panties in a wad? Win? I can’t name you anything that he has done that has been a bad look for the team/school ever. All I know is he’s a good coach that knows how to win and he’s darn good at it. Sorry if this offends you but I have to call BS when I see it.

  43. 7AA 1-Cumberland 2-Sequatchie 3-Bledsoe 4-Marion 6 point lead for Seq tonight in final at halftime but couldn’t overcome an injury early in third quarter to a main player, and heavy foul trouble. Marion led Bledsoe by double digits but things went downhill late especially after a main rebounder fouled out.

  46. I just want to take a moment to say thank you to all coaches, parents, volunteers and school administration to allow each one of the student athletes to be able to compete on this level. Without your tireless efforts and commitment, these kids, cannot learn how to problem solve, overcome adversity, work ethic, drive, dedication, toughness and countless other skills it takes to be successful in life. We celebrate these kids who are wrestling and putting names in history now, but I also want to thank the FORMER coaches, athletes and volunteers who committed their time like the ones now. Remember your history as a school. Remember the people who came before you in your school and state who paved the way for this to be possible. If that one coach 5 years, 15 years, 30 years did not have the vision to start the program, we would not be where we are as a state without you. The fruits of your labor have been and will continue to be shown as schools make history, break records, and impact lives through this amazing sport. So once again, thanks to all who ever had a hand in this sport and we work together as a state to better each and ever program (even start a few more) and impact lives through this sport because that’s what it is about, impacting kids for the better.

  47. All Individual sports should have one single Tournament for Individual Championships! Have as many divisions as you want for team Duals, heck I would add a third division to Public and a small school to private so that for the team duals there were 5 divisions but for the Individual championship there should only be a single tournament for every kid that competes for HS. If you did that then you wouldn’t be able to hold the individual tournament in the Agcenter anymore because there would be to many fans so you would have to move it to Bridgestone!

  48. I hope you have seen them play before making this statement. That’s pretty disrespectful to the players and to the college coaches. If you want to continue to play basketball after high school, I can assure you that it means ALOT to those players. Most of those players had offers to multiple schools. You can talk about the college teams if you want but you shouldn’t discredit the accomplishments of these players or any player that gets a chance to do something they love at the next level. It isn’t as easy as you make it sound. And there will be many players that never get that chance.
