  4. From my understanding, we will not a lot of quantity players, but we will lose some quality players. I believe we only lost 6-8 players and 3 each on both sides of the ball. So we do have some experience returning, but it's nothing to be proud of. There are no rising sophomores to be aware of, freshman team wasn't special, despite beating Peabody (if people care about that). Also, I wouldn't worry about this upcoming freshman class because they didn't play football last fall due to Covid. North Side will not win the region, and will potentially not get the #2 seed either. So don't worry. My family and I used to be involved with this team when Coach Vowell was there. But things have fallen off faster than I can even put in words. Last year, the teams had wins against Bolivar, Liberty, Kenwood, Chester County and South Side. That's a combine record of 6-39. In reality, that should be 2-39 because South Side and Chester County (who had two wins respectively) both beat Liberty and Bolivar, who were both had a winless season. Our defense was pathetic last year, we allowed 50+ twice which is no where near our standards. The problem with North Side on the offensive side of the ball, is that they don't have any playmakers because the offense is not an offense for playmakers. It's that simple. The key game to watch will be the September, 10th game against Ripley. That game will determine if we can handle South Gibson in Medina, the following week after. If we struggle in both games, wouldn't surprised me if we lose to Haywood and Crockett County, which are both road games. There are more things to worry about at North Side than the football program. Coach Powell is content with winning 6-7 games, which the administration is content with that as well. Principal Bridgeman has drove the athletics deeper in the ground than you can think. In our olympic sports district (South Side, McNairy, A'Ville, Lexington, Riverside, Chester County and Scotts Hill) the Indians are the only program that has not won a district game in the following sports: softball, girls basketball, and baseball (tournament game). Last time I've checked, they have won a match in volleyball since 2016. Trust me, there are huge problems North Side that hasn't been addressed.

  6. Catholic’s boys are not playing JV. Unless the girls JV is playing it should be varsity games only.

  7. I just wanted to say that for the record I don’t think Haywood’s stadium in any way is inadequate. I just think it is dated and there’s nothing wrong with that. I know Johnnie Hale was horrible and in desperate need of improvements. Especially the visitor’s side which should have been condemned. I’m just glad will live in a community that decided to not just renovate but to go above and beyond. I hope nothing but the best for Haywood and hope at some point the community decides to make the kids a priority.

  9. I should have told you that I taught 2nd and 3rd grades at Woodmore Elementarty. Some of my former students went to Brainerd and Tyner back in the day.. So I do like both of those teams. I like most Chattanooga teams EXCEPT the Owls, SD Trojans and McCallie / Baylor. I won't go to a game this season but maybe next year we can watch one together.

  10. Single A - Karly Weathers - A two time finalist losing to Moore McNeil both times. Think has a good chance to win it this year. Honestly not to familiar with anyone else in this classification. Double A - Reagan Hurst - Best guard in the Upper Cumberland and a finalist last year. Ultimate team player and leader on the number 1 team. Jada Harrison, sophomore guard from Martin Westview, would also be in contention. Triple A - Denae Fritz- Finalist last year that can take over a game. Tessa Miller would also be a logical choice. Best post player with guard skills in the Upper Cumberland. As always, just my opinion I know there are other deserving players out there.

  11. I still say that Blackman is a job that deserves someone with a winning recorded as a head coach. The program has slipped ever since Shadowens was shown the door. Now with that said, as a Riverdale fan, I am glad they made this choice.

  12. After doing a little more research, I just wanted to add a little more info about Coach Hooper. As stated, Hooper's record at Haywood was 140-28-2. Under his tenure, Haywood became one of the most dominant and well-known football programs in Tennessee. Some of his accomplishments include: 10 consecutive post-season bowl games 5 undefeated seasons 6 Big Ten Conference Championships 14 Straight seasons ranked in the state’s top 10 During his time at Haywood, 46 players received college scholarships 22 of his players made the all-state team, and he coached 7 high school All-Americans Coached in the 1969 TSSAA All-Star Football Game His 1969 Haywood team was ranked #12 in the nation named Big Ten Conference Coach of the Year 4 times (1957, 1964, 1968, and 1969) In 1971, the National High School Athletic Coaches Association named him Football coach of the Year for District 4. This district was comprised of Tennessee, Kentucky, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, Florida, and Louisiana Inducted into the TSSAA Hall of Fame in 1998 In May of 1998, the Haywood High School football stadium was renamed the “John B. Hooper Memorial Stadium” in his honor

  13. Actually...we are AMERICANs. BTW, are you old enough to remember the Flu? It is a virus that makes you sick for a few days and can also kill people that have underlying risk factors. It should be taken seriously, much like COVID. It should not control your life however. You can rant on all you want, call names, and live in fear. I for one am going to continue on with life, taking precautions but NOT going to let it stop me. BTW I had COVID at Christmas...and guess what. I AM STILL ALIVE.

  16. Pros: He's very good when it comes to x's and o's and very Innovative. He's also very good at getting players and fans excited. Cons: Discipline. His North Jackson teams were VERY undisciplined which is perhaps why his record there wasn't very good. If he brings Matt Daniels and other Ravenwood coaches with him, you can expect to have one of the most undisciplined teams in the state. Empowering players can be good, but it can also be a Hughe negative.

  17. You truly think you "Should and Could" have won???Nope and nope.As Yeti said it was two very good years for Meigs but you met the inevitable in Cookeville.NOW we have to deal with the best team in 2A WITHOUT a doubt playing down in our little league so Meigs has a great shot this year but still has multiple obstacles to overcome.Sometimes you just have to tip your hat and say congratulations (like in these two cases).Good luck to Meigs!Your road has gotten easier so make the best of it.

  18. You are happy with coming in 2nd two years in a row? I’m not. I’m proud, but hardly content. Any successful organization (military, Fortune 500 company, sports team) looks back over a previous performance and studies what went right, what went wrong, and what was in our control and what was not. This reflection must be conducted honestly and apolitically. Check egos at the door.... Fail to do that and people die, companies fail, and someone else wins the championship (respectively). It was said to me recently that if your season ends in Cookeville, you had a great year. My response was “Yes, unless you lost there when you could have won. “ In 2019, we should have won. For 2020, we could have won.

  19. Good post, not sure why anyone would be unhappy at this point if you are a Meigs fan. Truth is our coaches put together five outstanding teams in a row. And we look to be really good again in 21 most of our core players from last year will return with the exception of #34 Will Meadows, #57 Malachi Hayden, and #60 Hunter Brown.
