  1. Cobra, make sure you let TJ Duncan and Zach Watson know that they only won 4 state titles each because their 1st state championships don't count because they were in 8th grade. And while you are at it, contact TSSAA and have them revise their records also.

  3. Back in the early 80's there was a guy that was 29-0 on the season that won OW for Middle Tennessee He had wrestled against zero competition and it showed at the state tournament when he went 0-1 and a BBQ. As a coach I early on adopted the Dan Gable philosophy that it is the coaches job to get the kid beat. Few people learn anything from their victories but they learn a lot from their defeats. Take them all over the country if necessary to face the very best competition available. I would much prefer that a wrestler enter the state tournament 25-5 and those losses being to good out of state wrestlers or wrestlers from another division. We are in the middle of a pandemic but in most years it makes no sense to dodge the very best competition.

  4. One of my favorite parts of March Matness and March Madness is the build up to the tournament, all the previews and storylines...learning about teams/people who could wreck brackets..and just the excitement in the lead up to the tournaments. So... with that in mind, this year i’ve decided to do something a little different. If it shall please the audience, since we now have 2 weeks to wait, every day i will do a preview of a different weight, starting at 106 and so on, to try and get everyone talking and discussing each weight individually. I will list favorites, dark horses, and highlight certain matches as “the ones to watch”. This is all open for discussion, as it is a message board. feel free to throw some input, tell me some of my picks are dumb, the whole nine yards!

  5. With that being said...may i present to you...my AAA 106 lb. preview and predictions. Enjoy! Now, while at first glance, 106 looks a little top heavy with Terrell, Ford, and Fowler...this is actually a weight with a sneaky amount of depth. There are a solid 8-9 guys who could legitimately make the podium. The blood rounds are going to be super fun to watch and I cannot wait. Ford vs Terrell could be one of the best matches of the tournament (and one of the hardest to predict). Both are highly skilled, and both are very good defensively, and don’t give up a lot of points. The same goes for the potential final between the potential winner of that and the potential winner of Fowler/Baltz. Don’t be surprised if Baltz pulls a bit of an upset there. Fowler i think definitely has the toughest road to a title. He likely has to go through Nadeau, Baltz, and Terrell/Ford....which won’t be an easy task. HOWEVER, I do think that Ford or Terrell will be the ones to be screwed by the draw, as one will likely have to settle for 3rd behind a guy they have already beaten in Fowler Favorites: Bryson Terrell (Bradley), Russell Ford (Indy), Logan Fowler (Cleveland), Colby Baltz (Houston) Dark Horses: Aslan Nadeau (Blackman), Paul Johnson (Wilson Central), Zach Ordonez (Brentwood), Stiles Miller (Science Hill) Matches/Potential Matches To Watch: #2 Ford vs #1 Terrell, #2 Ford vs #3 Fowler, #1 Terrell vs #3 Fowler, #4 Baltz vs #3 Fowler, #5 Houston vs #4 Baltz, Nadeau vs Ordonez, #5 Houston vs Johnson Podium Predictions: 1. Russell Ford (Indy) 2. Logan Fowler (Cleveland) 3. Bryson Terrell (Bradley) 4. Colby Baltz (Houston) 5. Aslan Nadeau (Blackman) 6. Trent Houston (Cookeville) One match away: Paul Johnson (Wilson), Zach Ordonez (Brentwood)

  7. D2 does not seed their brackets. There is 2 one seeds, the Region Champ of the East and the Region Champ of the west. They alternate the weights as to whether the East region champ is on top or bottom of the bracket. But, both sides are identical so it really doesn’t matter who is on top or bottom. The East region champs wrestles the 4th placers from west region and the west #2 wrestled the #3 from East on the same side as the East champ. The other side is the same with west region champ wrestles the #4 from the East and so on.

  8. Over half of the HH roster has high major D1 offers and at least 3 kids who are 6'11". Idk where it is in Chatt either, but I do know it is a factory for D1 lately

  9. Why does every conversation end up with a Cody argument? Are there not any other kids in the state that matter? If he is the real deal , he should win out no matter where he is in the bracket. Let the kid wrestle and all yall keyboard warriors get your popcorn and watch all these kids wrestle and finish out an unusual year of wrestling.

  11. Crazy thing is, Cody will pin throughout the tournament and still not get MOW. I guess the expectation is expected?

  12. Braxton drew him randomly I think because he didn’t win his region. As to why Chittum isn’t the one seed I’m going to guess some rule about out of state placing?

  13. He’s not seeded 3, he’s ranked third in the made up rankings.

  14. I think this is true, but I think there is more to it. Several of the Metro coaches vote as a block on these awards, and they heavily slant toward Metro. Calvin and Ables were very deserving candidates based on past performance, and I think the Metro coaches wanted to give Calvin the award because of all the crap Metro has put up with this year. We could argue whether that is a correct interpretation of how to vote, but it isn't malicious against Ables, Centennial, or Wilco in general. Metro wrestling has its problems, for sure. There are several coaches that don't work hard and several that are in over their heads, but I think a lot of the issues in the voting come from petty disagreements within the Wilco coaches. They remember a perceived slight in a single match from years prior and then won't vote for that wrestler or coach for years to come. There is a huge divide between the 2 counties (poor Spring Hill and Dickson County are stuck) and it is probably best that they will be split up next year, but I think the silliness will continue because there are a lot of really good Wilco coaches with really big egos. The problems with Metro will transfer over to Wilson County. It will be sad to see Wilson Central kids and coaches not get awards because Metro coaches have such an inferiority complex. One last thing, the idea that Ravenwood should have won coach of the year is silly. Yes, there program has improved over the last couple of years, but so has Summit's. And Summit obviously has the hardware to prove it. Hopefully, Ravenwood will be able to lay claim in a couple of years.

  16. If you haven't heard of or seen Dylan Fairchild of West Forsyth Georgia wrestle you should look him up committed to play football at UGA and just a complete athlete the only heavyweight I've ever personally seen that was close to this kids build was Hunter Allen of Mt. Juliet, and I think most people would agree he looked the way he did thanks to some PED'S

  17. No disrespect but Calvin wrestles 2 matches going into the region tournament (according to trackwrestling). Then goes 1-2 at the region tournament and wins region 7 wrestler of the year? How did that voting work? The other is a no brainer. Coach Miller definitely was the right choice there.

  19. He was very good at Basketball. Had all the tools most of us thought thats what he would do in college. He didn't play Baseball in HS until his senior year and lead the team in HR BA and RBIs. Here is is with an slightly "off" Tom at the boat parade.

  20. TN and TSSAA seeding system.....only state in the country where #1 kid in the country gets a #3 seed

  21. Totally agree with you. That happens a lot, and as someone who was in the room that’s what it was. However some coaches voted against certain schools because they are spiteful or insecure. A coach literally did not vote for a wrestler because that school did not vote for him for coach of the year. Apparently coaching high schoolers rubs off on some coaches to make them act like they are in high school again. Comes down to metro vs wilco, and unfortunately insecure and jealous people.

  22. because of the lack of seeding, the second best kid doesn’t always finish second. but that’s just how it is with a random draw. it makes for some great matches early on, but can also make for some lopsided finals
