  1. This has been my thought all along.I have no dog in the fight but I would want a proven high school coach myself.I have heard stories these kind of coaches tanking in high school, because they dont necessarily know how to "Coach" kids.World of difference!

  2. I hate to bring up a sore subject, but what happened to the “it’s coming” posters from up the road?

  3. Well, yeah, but he said mean things to the other grown up coaches?!?!?.... I do find it crazy that folks are getting all up in the air about some coaches possibly taking comments as being disrespectful, but didn't find it disrespectful for players leaving the sidelines during a game, or curse and throw a fit and quit the team, only to be playing again the next week .... if you want respect you earn it and expect it from everyone. People especially adults, teach other how to treat them by what they allow.

  6. Shut up Dillard man. We are talking about our next coach in here. Put that stuff in your rear view mirror and go full steam ahead.

  7. I have watched the current/ last staff let kids be disrespectful to coaches and teammates and quit only to come back apologize and be back playing....People can say what they want, but if you let one do it, it sets the tone for everyone else. I like old school football coaches that would have you so sick after practice that you would have to sit in the bleachers next week for that kind of foolishness. That said you have to be willing to learn and grow as a coach. player, program or you will eventually get passed up by those that do.

  8. I live in the house of a state champion. The last two weeks is when the memory feed on FB has been popping up. I actually received a couple of videos I didn’t have. I agree the champs need all the glory. I have E-Mailed Coach White of Macon County and Coach Rutlege of Loretto on the girls side. Know what they are feeling because the state championship feeling never goes away and I agree they need to be acknowledged a bunch because they have reached the mountain top and the dream just became a reality. It is a true blessing and a Godly moment to win a state championship and i want to express Congratulations!!

  9. Yes sir. It was fun watching him and Anthony Brown go at each other this past year. Will be good to see these two special players do it again next year. Hopefully we can see it twice!!

  10. The further you want to go back, the harder this conversation becomes. I've been watching basketball in the state since the early 90s, and can think of a long list of coaches I'd put in the conversation. Fun topic to debate, but so tough to narrow it to 5.

  13. I understand what you are saying, but Danny Wilson wasn't a homegrown talent either and he did very well as a coach here. I don't mind an outsider as long he is the right choice for us. Just to play Devil's Advocate on Chris, and I'm not against him, just bringing a little something else to the conversation. Having a great resume at a higher level doesn't always bring success at lower levels. We've all seen college and pro coaches have success at one level but not at the other. There is a difference when handling different age groups it seems and some are better suited for one than the other. At the same time though, having success at one school doesn't equate success at another. A coach with multiple championships for one team may not be able to duplicate that success somewhere else. In the end it's all a big crap shoot. I just hope we don't crap out.

  14. Just trust the process. A simple explanation would be there is more to the hire than just football. I think @powerp said it best.

  15. I will support whoever they hire, BUT...I must agree with others. Why are we debating this? I will just say it.. Let’s just be practical. Chris Jones is 10 times the coach of anyone else that has applied.... and I don’t even need to know who all has applied. If someone doesn’t hire him then that person should receive their own private escort... OUT OF TOWN.

  16. It's a real shame that the joy of the moment lasts only a moment for some. Almost as soon as the cheering stops, people start with the "next year" discussions for the champs. Just savor the moment that will live forever in the kids' hearts, it's an accomplishment, it's reaching the mountain top, and it's the last hurrah for the seniors. They're the champs for a year on the books, and forever for the team...it should be celebrated as such.

  19. Sounds like the new coach put his trust in the wrong person. I'm not connected with Blackman so im looking from outside in. VB sounds like you are looking or hearing from inside out. I think I'll take what Blaze45 stated. His honest opinion without the emotion holds a lot of weight and he shoots it pretty straight. If Blackman was not happy with what Kit was doing then why not start fresh all the way around. Let the new guy in, hire his people, and if it doesnt work start over again. I do find it interesting that supposedly CB applied and obviously didn't get it. I would have thought that his resume would have been better.

  20. So there are a lot of things to take into consideration. I for one have sat through practices, scrimmages, been part of the booster club, and been to all but 3 games in the last 10 years. That said I watched attitudes, behavior and sportsmanship drop year over year for the last 3. I like and know everyone of these coaches, but as" capable" coaches where was the leadership that was lacking from the program. It is not the head coach's sole responsibility to hold the player accountable, demand respect and or drive each player to his best . That falls on every single coach on staff. I say that, to say, that leaving or being asked to leave, doesn't really matter. Being a coach is not a volunteer position, it is a job. If I don't perform my job to my bosses standards or expectations , I can expect i will get to do one of those things. I watched players walk off the sidelines last year and go talk to family in the bleachers. I watched kids throw fits and slam doors and quit, only to be playing again the following week. That wasn't a Coach Hartsfield issue , that was an entire staff issue. As far as high school football coaches go in my 50+ + years I never met a great coach that didn't already think they were to some degree. It will be a rough season, but I am curious to see who comes in and fills these spots and what the end result looks like. This will be one of two things . A great turn around or a terrible disappointment. I will still be pulling for them either way.

  21. I don't know the new coach from Adam, but a fresh start is needed. Only chance Blackman has of ever catching Oakland or Riverdale. If you maintain the status quo, just barely making the playoffs would be the norm

  22. You can rest assured that Wilson Central has never had a coach like Steve Thompson who has taken seven (7) teams to the STATE TOURNAMENT.
