Wrong. Maryville "applied" to move up to the 32. It wasn't that a team declined and Maryville had to play up in the 32. When a team did decline, Maryville moved up. THEY CHOSE TO MOVE UP, unlike Alcoa. Maryville was 15 or 20 schools deep in the 5A. If any of those 15 or 20 had wanted to go up, they would have gotten priority over Maryville, but they didn't apply to go up. Stacmot, I love reading your post because you keep it real. I am a Dyersburg fan and agree with you 100%. The defense has a lot of work to do if the team hopes to make it out the 2nd round. We are notorious for doing well in the regular season only to get bounced in the first or second round of the playoffs. Hopefully Coach Decker being back in town on the defensive staff will help us with defensive adjustments and getting the kids in the right spots to make plays. Time will tell!

Thanks man. I agree we were better that day. 99% of posters thought it was going to be a mercy rule bc of what SP did to every other 1A team they played. My point was you don’t have to be better all season if are the better team that day. Good luck to y’all this year. I think we both have a really tough schedule. Pitt has a bunch of great posters on here but they are always overrated ! New coach will change it up ,if he stays predictable then they will have a lot more silver ! The talent is there just hasn’t been utilized IMO! I know thems fighting words for some ,but it is what it is !

Not sure at this point. Glaucoma is much more under control, but I still have issues seeing under stadium lights and I don't drive at night these days. Should be easier to see under the Neyland lights, however. If my much better half doesn't have anything going on that Friday night I will probably get her to drop me off. And I am very much just a casual observer these days, by the way. Haven't talked to anybody at the "local" school in probably 3 months and I only talk to a couple of coaches elsewhere these days who are still close friends. I am retired from the high school football world. I did take my oldest grandson to the one night Maryville youth camp last Friday and saw some old friends there. It was good to catch up. I coached 2 years at Tennessee High not long after their2 state titles and mythical National Championship, 15 years at GHS, disrupted by 16 years in administration followed by 5 years of Football at Briarcrest. We never ever talked about the fans. It was always about what was best for the team and players and what would take us farther down the road.

You are correct BPM. There’s no equality in that. As I said earlier it’s not fair to the smaller school. I hope the power that be will look at this in the future. Alcoa would have 15-0 seasons every year if it wasn’t for the game with Maryville.

I agree on the 3A vs 6A comparison. I wish we would could find a powerhouse 6A team to play and drop the 3A team. I know it’s just a hype game and a moneymaker. It truly isn’t fair for the smaller schools to play Maryville.

They have had some great teams going back several years but yes my opinion of them has always been favorable. Same for Maryville and Alcoa,those two are just great programs and I've always said it would be nice to have a program that is right there in the championship picture every year like those guys.Not hate be just a lot of RESPECT.

It truly takes a village to raise a child. If the student athletes and their families don’t buy into academics they will not be successful at one of the D2AAA schools.

This is my most favorite thing I enjoy about watching Maryville High Football. While the other teams have their attention on getting to the locker room for halftime we sneak one in on them. You'll never see another team in Tennessee that has done that over and over so successfully. Worth the price of admission just for that alone. It's like watching someone talking to somebody else while their pizzing on them and they don't realize it until their done.

Its funny, in the 1st half Maryville absolutely barbequed DB's secondary, but in the 2nd half they kept trying to run it. A couple of people around me were wondering if they knew the game was a done deal (meaning if they started passing again they could score within a few plays) and they just wanted to work on their run game against a very good DB defense. I have no idea if that was the thinking, but if you look at play selection in the 1st half vs. 2nd half it sure appears that way.
