  1. I have no dog in this fight. I’m not a Powell or a Henry Co fan although I respect both. From reading the last few pages it appears you just made a casual statement to add to the conversation and HTV decided to cop an attitude with you. It’s a shame that people can’t have a conversation on this boards without being jerks to each other.

  2. I'll start by saying that this thread is clearly biased. Both men are deserving of their accolades through the years. Gary Rankin = 453 Wins (395-45 from 1990-2020). 16 State Championships. 6 State Runner-Up Finishes. George Quarles = 250-16 in 18 Years. 11 State Championships. 4 State Runner-Up Finishes. Both men are terrific football coaches who have won at the state's highest level. I find it to be sad that some of you get on here and say "one can win and the other can only win if/because....." ARE YOU FREAKING KIDDING ME? In life people hate what they are most jealous of and at the end of the day Alcoa is a football program that people are jealous of when it comes down to it. People who say Rankin only wins because Alcoa has 6A talent playing at a 3A level need a history lesson. Rankin coached in 9 STATE CHAMPIONSHIP GAMES when he was the head football coach at Riverdale at the state's highest level. Rankin coached in Rutherford County before it became watered down with the additions of schools everywhere. He coached at the state's highest level before there was a public/private split. Saying that he "only wins due to talent" is stupid.

  3. Really would be interesting who the mastermind or the backer to this operation is. This is a story about a team who's coach got fired for going to take a whiz during a test and then the program slides into the bowels of ale for six long years especially after hiring that idiot from Chattanooga. Now we have a Transfer Portal on Steroids bringing in kids from everywhere. Somebody got to be stroking some checks somewhere or it's the one of the best coaching jobs I've ever seen because Powell is a place you want to get your kid out of not into.

  7. clockwork. Another year, another throw something out there thinking it's the first time. Season will come and go, only thing Powell needs to be concerned about it and it's always there... handling expectations. Not getting busted.

  8. Doing as well as possible. It's going on 3 years since my better half was diagnosed with Early Onset Alzheimer's. I haven't been to a game in two years, but thank goodness for Diamond Clear Media. Bubba and I are going to try to go to the jamboree, then I'll settle in with my Diamond Clear. There's just something about that night that makes you feel good about the start of the high school season.

  9. Nut I’m not starting anything, HTV has his “mute” button on me so it’s irrelevant. But again to my point, you cannot admit he doesn’t go on the defensive when someone says ANYTHING ab Powell. Point was proven again when Patriot was just simply making a point and he lost it. And I tried to add to the thread. I’m just giving my opinion to the thread on the newest Powell scan…cough cough, my apologies…”News.” Got nothing against you Nut, your a realist on here

  10. Not heard much. He has an infection that caused him to have a stroke. He just needs a lot of prayers. Bvd & I have became friends over the years. Just spoke to him last Thursday. Such a good dude

  11. Man!!! Just hearing those names again will give any Henry County fan goosebumps!! That really may have been the best team EVER at HC! 2013 was an awesome and resilient team but 2011 was really a team full of dogs that would not be denied!

  12. Yes sir!! Was a very special bunch. Not only Ray and Allen, but I believe it had something like 11 players total sign football scholarships at some level or another. Andrew Jelks (Vandy of course, now an up-and-coming coach in his own right) was probably the "star" of the team, but he was joined by Jimmy Camper, Mason Peale, and Scottie Alexander along the offensive line. Between them and fullback Caleb Counce (UT Martin), I don't think I've ever seen running lanes opened so wide. Randall Dunlap, Louis "Rock" Long, and Mar'trel Kendall, who combined to form the greatest D-line unit Henry County has ever had, swarmed, harassed, and gang-tackled practically every QB and RB on the schedule that year. All 3 played small college ball. They were joined by a LB corps consisting of Brad Owens, Dennis Tharpe Jr, Matt Craig and Ontario Ward among others that did NOT enjoy playing 2nd fiddle to the line in front of them. They made a name for themselves. Then of course the secondary. Man...the secondary. Still (IMO) the best secondary we've ever fielded. Storme Hilliard was for my money the best safety we've ever had. Dude LIT people up all year long from his hard-hitting, free safety position. He landed some hits that would probably be illegal now. He was joined by LaQuan McFereen at SS, and Trey Cowans and Felix Adams at CB. Both were incredible cover corners. Then our kicker, Kyler Ainley, who hit the game-winning field goal in the state title game, who went on to play at Belhaven University. Man, what a great team that was.

  13. Funny I was just thinking this same thing as I was making something for a social media post tomorrow. That was a special team!! Najee Ray and Shaquille Allen!!

  14. Wow, it just hit me that this is gonna be the 10th anniversary of our 1st state championship team. Crazy. Doesn't feel like it's been that long. And what a TEAM it was!!

  16. Good points. And, while he walked into a gold mine with Alcoa, Rankin built Smith Co. and Riverdale from scratch.

  21. Fair enough. I just think if someone is simply asking a question and they get calm down as a reply it is unnecessary and can come off the wrong way. I completely understand why you would be upset with Tad.

  22. Wish him the best. My son is fortunate enough (if you ask him he might tell you he is unfortunate) to get beat up by Kodiak on the regular. Tough, super hardworking kid and that should be a great program for him.

  23. You have no clue what you are talking about. None. I haven't talked to anybody there nor been on that campus since back in the early spring. There's your fact. I "support" young folks who play sports in high school at a lot of schools, including but not limited to Powell. And you seem to be evading questions today. Name names, name money sources, and explain how transfers and their families are being paid as you claim. I'll hang up and listen for your answer off of the air. But not holding my breath waiting for you to actually answer.

  25. In reading his statement as an unbiased party he seemed very calm. Just made a simple statement. Why do you think he needs to calm down??

  26. So you do realize that you are arguing with yourself, right? Big guy? Read this slowly ................ Powell has the pressure on them to do it on the field. It's not hard to understand what that means, and anybody with the ability to think reasonably and rationally would be able to see that it's not a put down to any other school and their programs.

  27. Nobody upset here just stating facts there big guy. Mt Juliet and some other teams have potential to win the gold ball as well. Powell hasn't proved anything the last several years, even a couple years ago when they was like 12-0 but got bounced in the 3rd round. They have more talent than they ever had but im not sold that they can prove it.

  28. If Powell dont win with what they have hoarded in from all over then you gotta laugh at Lowe .. what a waste .. maybe he got the Midget Coach to get him the players and had to offer the OC to him to get them but maybe he forgot you gotta coachem too ... he has some real iffy kids on there that already have committed some pretty serious offenses .. but we will see when they lineup if there are any consequences for the actions ..my guess is a big NO .. I think this will again prove Powell is win at all cost .

  30. Is that why you hate Maryville ?? they stole your recruits ??? Yea some kids have gone to Powell .. not many that were Fulton bound .. so didnt affect them much at all ... I just know from years of watching the Head Guy there and how much he is disrespected among the coaches .. I know alot of HC's in Knox Co ..not a one has anything good to say about the HC at Powell ..they know too much on him ... im sure the HC at Powell loves it too ... well lets see him win some Champoinships instead of under achieving ..but if he can keep the kids eligible and off expelsion and suspension then they will do good if the HC doesnt get in the way .

  32. The Jackets are going to be okay. How good remains to be seen. The region has added three teams who will all contend for the title. The region also returns its defending champion. It’s going to be highly contested all season. The Jackets return Dillan Sullivan, Morgan Jean, Kennedy Pendergass, Crawford Claxton, Layden Grant, Kendrick Curtis, Jacob Clevenger, Cole Warden, Sam Hammon, Luke West, Connor Farris, Ethan Hamilton all as returning starters from last year’s team. They all will have to step up and play at all time high levels in order for the Jackets Football Program to have another successful campaign. There are several others who have shown great improvements who will be solid contributors on the 2021 team.

  33. One word—Weigel’s. Obviously Nolen and his fam couldn’t resist the opportunity to be able to drink some of that good ole Jug O’ milk from Weigel’s errday. As far as Powell “recruiting” & “cheating”- If they’re doing misdeeds in the dark, it’ll eventually come to light anyway, or they’ll never win a championship. Take that back, they may win one, but not with a good conscience. If that’s the case, I’d rather not win one at all personally. God’s justice has its way of meting itself out over time. If they’re doing things the right way now? More power to ‘em.

  36. They have the best talent money and recruiting can buy ... yea they should win the State ... for sure pressure on them .. but lets not forget they were in many close games last year and got lucky on all ... especilaly the pushoff playing Beech on last play ..they pulled a horseshow out of butt at AC and one other game ... they have talent but coaching ??? I dont see how Lowe gets anybody to be a assistant ... the most unliked Coach in Knox Co ... even before he hired the Youth recruiter for the state as his OC ... but they havent done diddly with the tallent they have had ...

  37. Very true! I see HC making it out of the West but adding arguable the best player in the nation to an already loaded team on offense is going to be tough with what Powell already had returning

  42. I think they have scrimmaged them pretty regularly to open fall practice, definitely an opportunity to see where things need to be worked on. It’s gonna be an interesting year, I do wish we weren’t playing Northeast so early to start region play. The Jackets always seem to get better as the season progresses, Northeast will be very tough and athletically present the Jackets with a tough challenge early. Looking forward to the start of the season and praying for a return of normalcy following the pandemic .

  45. And therein lies the problem. One person asking for clarity is copping an attitude to another. But some are just going to be perpetually offended, I guess.
