You would be hard pressed to say a 10 game series between these 2 teams would be far removed from a 5-5 or 4-6 split. Very evenly matched talent wise. I was glad to be able to watch such a great High School Football game. Pivotal moments that defined the caliber of game it was from my perspective 1. LA opening drive setting the tone early, smash mouth football (for a spread team at least) 2. Oakland defense rising to the occasion at the goal line after a costly fumble on the ensuing kickoff, very gritty & hard nosed 3. Oakland defense reaping the fruits of their labor and getting pressure to get the scoop and score, relentless aggression 4. LA's almost quarter long drive to show they can play ball control with their spread attack offense, quite impressive imho 5. A little luck on a play that was poised to go nowhere and a couple of good athletes making a play to go up 14 6. A star being a star on a 75 yard house call, great individual effort and athleticism 7. Defensive halftime adjustment to keep LA bottled up in the 2nd half, Coaching Kudos right there 8. Lack of Offensive halftime adjustment, LA became predictable as game wore on & Oakland defense smelled blood 9. The pass interference call on the go ahead drive for Oakland, way to make the most of situational football 10. The absolute intestinal fortitude of Oakland to win it on the 2 pt. conversion. Straight gumption right there! 11. The desire of the LA offense to give themselves a chance at the 2 yard line with seconds to go. 12. The tenacity and the determination of Oakland defense to define the moment and finish the job, well done 13. In the end, a great exhibition of 2 of the best in TNHSFB, good show LA & Oakland, good show5 points

I really expected Alcoa to be the last fanbase to be making excuses and complaining about refs. You’re not going to continue running through teams constantly and it’s good to be tested. You all got more penalties tonight because you were a lot more undisciplined than West was. I have absolutely zero issues with Alcoa and have a lot of respect for their program as well as Coach Rankin. When you look at it from a non-biased and neutral view then you can see that nobody was trying to railroad the tornadoes.4 points

Heart breaking. Its difficult to wrap your head around. News like this just buckles your knees and leaves you with a sick and empty feeling at times. A lot of different emotions come rushing over you. Only the Love of God can and shall see us through this. I met Mike a few years ago via this website at one of our games (thanks CoachT). Tuned in to his show every chance I got. I got to know him a bit and enjoyed our conversations through our short time together. Mike was a great guy. A teddy bear really. I'll miss that smile of his. We all will. My prayers are with his family and dear friends. May God's Peace, understanding and His arms envelop you, hold you, keep you and comfort you always. RIP Mike. Rest in His loving arms. I had hoped to see you later in the year, but now I have a greater Hope of seeing you in Glory. We shall meet again. I love you brother. God Bless.3 points

I'll give Cummings some credit though. He clearly watched Powell's film from the Clinton game. They sat back in a 2 or 3-deep zone a lot tonight, and they dared Potts to either find those soft spots or to take shots down the field. They also did a nice job spying him.2 points

I have watched the footage on this contest for many weeks dating back to the 7v7 passing tournament that Coach Lowe held at his place this summer. I am expecting the Powell Panthers to take advantage of Halls through the air and on the ground. Unfortunately, the Halls defense is just not multiple enough to handle the exotic schematics that they will see tonight. Having viewed the footage, I believe that Powell has one of the best offense weapons in the state with their little QB. Watched him play against Sci Hill and he absolutely took care of business. Halls will battle hard as always but will just not be able to keep up. Best of luck to both teams as they move past the halfway point in their regular season.2 points

Sounds like an awesome game between 2 awesome teams from this outsider. Question : So if Oakland was getting 'smoked' 21-7 going into the 3rd,,,, did LA get 'smoked' 0-22 the rest of the game? Nice how you determine when the 'smokin' starts and stops. Also sorry - Kevin38 is not coach -ha- is a Springfield guy and has been for years. He is a knowledgeable football guy that contributes to these forums. Sounds like LA had a great game plan (and talent) with ball control, but just needed to convert one more drive to points.2 points

Truth. Buck's metro all stars are the winners over Dilfer's recruits.2 points

My thoughts on LA and the game. We know how it turned out. Oakland did what they were supposed to do. They won. LA easily won the first half but Oakland took the second with gut and determination. The long James run in the second half was wrong defensive call and right offensive call. Right before the snap every linebacker sucked down to the center of the line and the defense crashed in and the hand off was off left tackle. He just bounced outside and dodged one guy and was off to the races. The LA team is VERY impressive. Serious D1 talent on that squad. Love the qb. Big tough kid that's tough to get down. If he scrambles and runs, he's getting yards almost every time. Big accurate arm. Also very impressed with the running back. Extremely fast and very elusive. He's making 2-3 guys miss almost every carry. Defensively very tough and well disciplined. Glad I got to experience this game. It certainly lived up to the hype. I hope Oakland and LA will get better from this. Don't see LA losing another one this year. I believe Blackman is next.2 points

Or the fact you didn’t get the calls you would usually get at home. You get most of the refs out of that association and you’re still getting as close of a ball game as you had tonight. West was right with you all. Chalk this one to West smacked you guys in the mouth a bit and luckily you guys responded and did what good teams do, found a way to win.2 points

Coach what makes it real difficult is thinking of those he left here that love him ! This forces us all to face our mortality ! Now I say we all go out and follow Mikes example ! Find something we are passionate about, put our best effort towards whatever that is and love it unconditionally, ask nothing in return ! God gave us that Molder Man and allowed him to touch everyone in different ways for a reason ! I know as a man I wanna “fix” everything and this just shows we can’t control much in reality except the legacy we leave !2 points

Very proud of my Mustangs tonight. Rushed for over 500 yds without a turnover. Huntingdons front 7 limited the Dogs to 53 yds on the ground. Aden Hutcherson #25 rushed for 301 yds and 7 TD's. I think we may be a little better than most of you experts thought.1 point

Very sloppy game for sure but the Cyclones played hard and AC has a tough team and best of luck to them the rest of the year.1 point

Mavsericksinflight, good post. I too hope it’s an injury free game. Safe travels to and from the game to the AC team, family and fans. Looks to be a perfect night for high school football under the lights. To quote Mills Lane……LET’ S GET IT ON!1 point

Hahahaha now you see why Alcoa wont move up, they cant beat teams outside of 3A ball ! Than their twitter account had the audacity to tweet something about a “trap house”. Hahahaha got to laugh at those TORN nay a does haha1 point

Not saying the Cyclones will win. Not saying they won’t. What I am saying is you can’t call someone a troll for stating facts that are from games played. That’s all. So…….shrug away.1 point

So you think state championships officials are neutral. Y'all would have had a lineman downfield call on that 2 point conversion at state.1 point

Officiating was so bad, I thought I was in Corbin, KY again….. Didn’t think I would ever witness anything worse than that one, but last night was over the top. Anyone who refuses to see that is either blind or a true Alcoa hater. Good game knox county. Now, go enjoy that “L”!1 point

With 3 teams sitting undefeated in Region 5, Montgomery Central, Pearl Cohn, and Tullahoma, this game means that at best there will only be 2 undefeated teams left. Montgomery Central, has Marshall County, Pearl Cohn, and Tullahoma still to play. In my opinion, tonight’s winner is set up nicely to go undefeated this season….I am not throwing shade on any other Region 5 teams, because I am a firm believer that anyone can loose on any given night. Looking forward to what I hope is a great game!1 point

Good local food spots Touchdown Wings or London’s….Chains include Buffalo Wild Wings, Chick-fil-A, Sonic, Red Lobster, Ruby Tuesday’s, Applebees, etc basically the normal spots…. Gondola is locally owned if you like Pizza and spaghetti. No talk on this big game beside me and you, guess everyone else is to nervous….I can’t wait until game time!!!1 point

IMO the two best teams in the state played last night. Game could've went either way! Hats off to both coaches for making this game happen.1 point

Don't come on here spewing facts and making sense !! you're really screwing up their argument!1 point

Maybe all the Alcoa complainers should watch the replay tonight and try to understand what a holding call looks like instead of getting on a public forum accusing a former coach at West of screwing them in a Witch Hunt. The replay was clear to those who understand the rules.1 point

Looked like a lateral to me as well. I was on the 50 and although I couldn't see it straight on because it was somewhere around the 40 it looked backwards to me. Maybe lucky break or maybe correct call. Either way.1 point

You will always have the daddies and kids who want "more" but to be clear we rarely get transfers. Most times if we get one we seem to lose 2 to the same cause. It's not easy to get a starting spot at a school that has made it to the semis 2 years in a row so it works both ways if that makes sense. And no McDonald's bags here. If you get rid of that poultry smell you may be able to construct your own pipeline.1 point

All is well. Wet, sloppy conditions aren’t the best for a passing team. Smith Co was better than advertised too! Probably the best line we’ve seen all year. Plus, I’m sure there was a bit of looking forward to the upcoming Cleveland, Rhea, and McMinn games.1 point
