  1. The program is bigger than just one guy, and at this point, the whole program just looks dead in the water. With the talent we have on this team at the skill positions, there’s simply no excuse for us to be as bad as we are. The whole program needs to be rejuvenated, IMO. We just don’t and haven’t looked like a well coached team throughout this season. Hopefully if some changes are made, Joe can still be an integral part of the program in some capacity or another. I’m not sure in what form that would be, but he does deserve it with as much time and effort he’s put into it through the years.

  2. At closing in, if not @ 70, I believe it’s time for ole Joe to hang it up and enjoy the rest of his life peacefully. He’s put in so much time and effort through the years for the big OR, and as a fan who knows him and grew up with his son, I truly appreciate everything he has done for the program from the bottom of my heart. But, you have to wonder if it’s time to bring in a younger fella to pump some new lifeblood into the OR program.

  5. Yeah, I think there a lot of people that don’t like Blade, but he’s a pretty solid coach. There’s no reason OR should be where they are right now and it doesn’t look like it’s going to change until some changes happen.

  11. Pretty ugly game in the 2nd half, but I'll take a 17pt win over a team of Riverdale's caliber. Made some mistakes on special teams that you don't see alot with Oakland, gonna have to clean those up if you want to repeat. Big congrats on the guys for going 4-0 in this recent stretch, that was 3 teams that are pretty freaking good

  12. Congrats to the Tomcats. Y'all have a great team. I kinda felt like the team that made the fewest mistakes would win the contest. The game was closer than the scoreboard says. SGC got inside the redzone 4 times and came up fruitless all the 4 times. I think is safe to say that Haywood has improved the defense! I appreciate the sportsmanship, banter, and quality posters from Haywood. I wish yall nothing but luck moving on.

  13. HV scored on the 1st play 64 yard pass. After that it was late in the 4th before they got over 100 yards of offense.

  14. I was going to comment earlier in the week that I thought Monterey would win by 2 scores at the least. I watched the game online and Oneida totally dominated this game. Those two quick scores rattled Monterey and they never really got it together after that. Plus I thought the play calling for them wasn’t that great. 23 for Oneida held his own out there at corner.

  19. Came here to see Shad's word of the day and I'm disappointed. The concession lady did tell me however that she hoped WB lost tonight because she's ready for football season to be over and didn't want a playoff game.

  20. 7 to 6 Meigs. Failed 2 point conversion by Tyner. Tyner moving ball with ease on Meigs. Meigs has no answer for Tyner passing game and can't make tackles in open space. Meigs offense can't do anything against Tyner D either as of yet. Only score thanks to long punt and turnover inside 20 yard line.

  21. Good post! It's good to see a team outside the top ten get recognition for their accomplishments. Oakdale is definitely deserving and hats off to Coach Voyles for a job well done. Considering what he has to work, I'd say he does a good of a job as any.

  23. The times Ive seen OR play, they lack an identity on offense. Honestly feels like they are trying to put a square peg in a round hole instead of adapting to the personnel they have

  24. Boy, this topic really deserves its own thread. There is so much onion to peel. For the record, I really enjoy working in Oak Ridge, and I have a tremendous amount of appreciation for both the town and the high school's academic and athletic accomplishments. I think those W-L records are tremendous goals that OR should strive for annually. Heck, if you look at their history, that's where they've consistently been. But it's also possible that given the changing landscape in the Knox area, plus the presence of another nearby, academically strong public high school (HVA), that may not be as realistic of a goal as it once was going forward. I could share a lot here, but I'll try to keep this focused. I've been involved in some market research with three area chambers of commerce in the past few years (Oak Ridge, Farragut, and Knoxville). I'll be blunt - Oak Ridge is getting killed in two key areas: infrastructure and real estate. Both issues, particularly the real estate one, is stifling a ton of potential growth in Oak Ridge, especially when you consider the current real estate market. My family moved from West Knoxville (Cedar Bluff area) last summer. We'd been looking to move to Oak Ridge for years, but what ultimately kept us from making a move there was the incredible lack of real estate opportunities. We'd been looking for multiple years, and it was laughable what we could buy in OR vs. Karns, Hardin Valley, and even Farragut (we ended up in Farragut). Oak Ridge has said for years that they understand this issue, but they have done almost nothing to address it head-on. To their credit, they are slowly making infrastructure changes/upgrades, which I hope leads to other opportunities (like future real estate development). To put it in real terms, I work in a group of roughly 50 engineers. 80% are early in their careers (<10 years experience) and many have children. Most of the group lives in West Knox County. We actually have more that live in Clinton, Harriman, and Oliver Springs than compared to OR. There is no reason why more of these engineers (and their families) shouldn't live in OR, but if you ask, many of them would have the same complaint that I do. I'm not saying the dam is going to burst, but it has to be eroding given all of the current factors working against the city. And until the city does something to change course, I think things are going to get bumpier before they improve. And yes, I know exactly the area you are talking about. You guys have had an incredible luxury with all of that talent year in and year out. There isn't a suburb in West Knox County that has that consistent level of home-grown talent.

  26. No disrespect taken. I like a little banter and friendly smack talk. From everything that I have heard from multiple people that I trust all I am getting is Haywood is nasty. They are really good against the run and can score almost at will. SGC has been able to score points against Haywood the past few season so I hope we can get into another high scoring affair. We will all know here in a few hours. Again, no disrespect taken I just like a little banter.

  27. Still think you're going to have make one guy the play caller. Play calling is an art and you can't have two different guys calling the game because the feel and setting up certain things will be different.

  28. Yea i made a score prediction of 42-14 and i'm afraid it came across disrespectful to the Hornet fans. Did not intend to do so! I probably should have clarified the details of my prediction. I am expecting a 21-14 type score (or tied) at the half with the tomcats pulling away in the 4th, maybe even late in the 4th. That's a respectful "42-14" score prediction vs a 28-0 or 32-0 at halftime type score with the apposing team finally scoring on the 2nd & 3rd team late in the game. I will be majorly surprised if we are more than 2 TD's ahead before the 4th. I have respect for the South Gibson program. I just feel that the Tomcats are on a different level than in years past, if ever.

  31. Its not that deep.We just cant wait and pickup football few months before season. We have enough talent sometimes to get away with it but not years like this.We need someone who is gonna commit to these kids getting better year around.I love my city and know they will get it right.Gaddis hasnt been perfect but he has had some really good teams in second time around. We just need to take the next step and see what we can do making these kids go all in.

  33. Completely agree, SS. This may be harsh, but from an outsider's perspective (one who also works in OR), what is going on with the football program isn't that different from what is going on in the city of Oak Ridge.

  37. Under JG’s guidance, we have lost to 2 teams that we had lost to in 80 some odd tries 1 time, and now we have lost to them both the past 8 years. I don’t care how much better they are, OR just isn’t supposed to lose to Karns or CC, period.

  38. We had one coach promise the players he would wear shorts every game until we lost. 13 degrees at kickoff and single digits by the end and he wore a pair of khaki shorts with tennis shoes that night lol.

  42. When Camden got out of the Flex Bone and got back to running the Single Wing they instantly got better because they are now able to mount success on the offensive side of the football and shorten the game by chewing up the clock. They are much better than their 1-5 record suggests. Waverly is very good. Camden lost their former QB after the Waverly game and then lost their current QB the day before the McEwen game. They are already think and trying to play against McEwen without a QB really killed their chances of winning that contest. I honestly believe they would beat McEwen if the two teams played tonight. Martin-Westview is very good. Parsons-Riverside is very good. Fairview is very good. Union City will be very good. They beat Houston County very convincingly. The game was well in hand throughout the contest. They won 64-48 but they were up by 3 scores for the majority of the contest. I'll be eager to see how their new/improved offensive approach fares for them against Union City and Gibson County. Coach McConnell, Coach Wolf and those guys are very good coaches with proven track records. They should be commended by the way that they've held the team together throughout the season. They are still playing very hard and competing against very tough competition. Good Luck to the Lions this week.
