  3. Alright Springfield fans, I have called this rematch way back after the NE win in October and here we are the week of the rematch. It was a much needed win against NE and yes, we gave up 40, but scored 44 to win. A win is a win and sometimes they aren't pretty as this one wasn't but it started the current win streak. For the record, you guys struggled against Portland and pulled away in the 4th quarter and we demolished Portland. Again, those games don't matter and we aren't basing anything on our NE game nor your game against Portland. Right now, we are both 2-0 and the previous records are irrelevant at this point. These young men are focused and determined to do what they have done the last 4 weeks. They are clicking on all cylinders and they will win this rematch with a statement made on your home field. No disrespect to the Springfield team, but HC is playing great ball at the right time of year to make a run to Chattanooga. Roll Red Roll! HC- 35 Springfield- 14

  4. Let me make sure I have this right. Pearl Cohn played awful in the first half. Pearl Cohn made adjustments. Pearl Cohn didn’t have everyone for the first match up. If Brown wouldn’t have needed a breather or cramped, Tullahoma would have lost. Tullahoma shouldn’t be here. No one is giving Tullahoma a shot in this game. Do I have everything right? According to all of this, Tullahoma doesn’t even need to show up. Could it be Tullahoma had a little something to do with the way Pearl Cohn played? Pearl Cohn did make adjustments, as most teams do, but when the opposing offense gets a little conservative, it makes things look a tad different. Who besides maybe #88 was missing for the first matchup? All the top stat guys seemed to have played the previous meeting. As far as the fumble with Brown out, Tullahoma’s defense made a play and knocked the ball loose. Like last week, Hardin County had 2 costly mistakes, or was that Pearl Cohn making plays? It works both ways. Either way you slice it, an L is still an L. There are many “what if’s” to every ballgame on both sides. I think I will still show up Friday night hoping to watch a game Tullahoma shouldn’t even be in according to some. See everyone Friday.

  5. He could be back at the high school teaching or stay involved with athletics in some other capacity. There are rumors a plenty about the AD position. David didn't specifically ask if he would be back as the HC. He just asked him if he "would be back" Dave's a pro, he left Coach a little wiggle room there.

  12. Being that Rhea County is a Wing-T team, and extremely well-coached Wing-T team, I would imagine that they will execute all cut blocks legally. They may add a few to their scheme to factor for Nolan, but cut blocks are most likely already a fundamental of their offense; a technique their coaches have been teaching how to do legally for years. I could be wrong, but I don't believe that will be an issue Friday night. Also, most people use the terms cut blocks and chop blocks interchangeably, but the actual rule book does define them differently. A chop block is what most people call a "high-low" block- where one blocker cuts a defensive player that is already engaged with another blocker.

  13. Bottom line is big spur is going to take care of Oakland. Got a stepson at OHS and a daughter at OMS. He hired Creasy, so no trouble on getting any transfers / recruits in. Smooth sailing.

  14. I think this will be a really good game. These two teams are evenly matched. Both have really good skill guys and good lines. Both defenses are solid. Fayetteville will have homefield advantage but McKenzie has Comer as their coach. Imo Comer is one of the better coaches in West Tennessee and he and his staff will be the difference in a fairly low scoring game.

  15. Coach Gaddis was not forced out, in fact they wanted him to continue, but as he said, "its time" and he made the decision with a lot of thought. He is leaving behind a potentially good team with a lot of experienced players returning, and some that were out with injuries will also return. He said he wanted to leave the new coach the same situation he came into in 1988, when he inherited a talented team and went 10-0 in the regular season and won a couple of playoff games before a narrow loss to a talented Oakland team. The same possibility is there for the new coach, whoever that may be, and it will probably be a couple of weeks before a committee can be assembled and resumes collected and interviews conducted, That process hasn't started yet. The job will be posted, then if all these guys mentioned are really interested they can apply. There are a number of good coaches out there, most are currently employed, so they have to decide if they want to stay or try for this job. I also understand OR will need a number of assistant coaches as some will go to Hardin Valley with Coach Miner, which is a great hire for them by the way. I am sure all the potential coaches mentioned know the deal and will actually apply and who gets offers. OR has to get this right, it is an end of an era and the beginning of a new one,

  20. I have to politely disagree with your statement earlier that "DCAs OL/DL are considerably more physical and their skill players on the perimeter are faster." I believe the lines are very similar in size and physicality. I will admit that we didn't play our best football against Goodpasture. However, Hardin Co. was a very physical team and we held our own against them. They are a 4A school that went undefeated for 11 weeks and we only surrender 147 yard rushing to them. We were without our starting Mr. Football candidate at running back and then lost our # 2 on the 1st series of the game. #3 was lost in the 3rd quarter and we finished the game with #4 (a freshman that had never stepped on a high school field before). He will be very good before he graduates from USJ. USJ goes 276, 290, 235, 230 and 270 across the OL. We also have a 6'4" 240 TE that has been a starting OT for the previous 3 seasons with above average speed. I think our line depth will end up playing a big factor in the game as only 1 of our 5 OL play defense. I attended the DCA/NCS game this year. It was a slugfest between 2 really good teams. I believe the wet conditions and soggy field played into NCS's favor that night because it evened the QB play. DCA's QB does a great with play action but he wasn't able to take advantage because of the wet conditions. This week will be a little chilly but dry. DCA's QB ability to throw accurately will be a big test for USJ. In my opinion; USJ's pass rush or lack of will determine the game. It might be a long night for DCA if USJ gets pressure on the QB and force him into ill-advised throws. On the other hand; it might be a long night for USJ if DCA's QB just sits in the pocket with all day to throw. All football coaches say that the team with the least amount of turnovers most likely will win the game. That cliche might be true with this game.

  21. Now come on Grunt. Polls and Contests. Take it easy on us Meigs County Fans. We deserved that #1 ranking in the polls. Three straight semis, two state appearances and bringing back a lot of talent. Meigs had a great season and went undefeated beating a pretty solid Marion team 20 to 0 to finish it off. Just blew it by getting complacent after getting that lead against TC and thinking our Defense could hold on to it then got stunned when BC broke off that 70 something yard run. No one from Meigs over here is happy with our offensive play callling. Have not been all year. Even when we are winning by 40. Interceptions, stopped at the goal-line, and stuffed on couple big fourth and less than yard to go's. Upsets happen. Those TC players came out there and played their rear ends off. They earned our respect. If a lot of Meigs posters or area media are picking TC to beat Watertown its probably for that reason. I am a homer. If we don't win it I want to see the team that knocked us out win it. I will pick TC just because of what I have seen happen the last three years vs Watertown in the playoffs. You all can rip me up and say none of that has anything to do with this Friday night or this Watertown team does not care about any of that. We will find out Friday night.

  26. Not sure how Dyersburg is an “underdog” here. They are 1st in the region and already beat Covington once. Still, if that is the role y’all want to fill, go ahead. I think that the terms “favorite” or “underdog” really don’t apply here. Both teams have talent and both have won lots of games. I suspect that the game will be decided by which team makes the least mistakes. Will one team play “tight” and make mistakes they haven’t made all year? We will see.

  27. Yeah, apparently he has contemplated hanging it up going on 2 years now in his words. Don't blame him a bit. He has been doing this for 50 years almost, including being an asst. He*(, I'd have done it a long time ago if I was him, but he is more passionate about it than your average Joe, no pun intended by any means.

  32. Football Rules Changes - 2021 By NFHS on May 27, 2021football Share Print Action in the Free-Blocking Zone [2-17-2c (NEW), 2-17-4] Blocking below the waist now requires the block to begin immediately following the snap.

  33. FHSA gonna have to disagree here, HC who isnt at the school would be at a major disadvantage and would not be viewed positively by the community imo. And any principal worth anything is going to want to have their HC in the building. Football is the front porch of your school and if the HC isn't even there during the day then what are you even doing with the culture of your high school? "academic side of things" is a pretty large facet of a program and includes discipline, relationships with teachers, recruiting the hallways, etc. One of the assistant coaches would end up being de facto HC from 8:00-3:45 and that wouldn't end well IMO JMO TIFWIW

  34. Chop blocks are illegal. Have been for a long time. What most call a chop block is actually a cut block, which is totally different. Being an Army Football supporter I hear about "chop blocks" all the time. He's the best explanation of a cut block that I have seen, and this is from a college football perspective. I'm not sure if there are different rules for states that recognize NFHS rules. Read college football’s cut block rule. Here’s how to tell what’s allowed. - SBNation.com

  35. What's Riverside's best win or most impressive performance of 2021? A 17-14 win at 5-6 Lexington? Lexington's best wins are against Crockett or Chester Co. A 20-14 win against East Hickman? A game where East Hickman had a 50 yard TD called back in the 3rd and was only down 6 with the ball deep in scoring territory at the end of the game. Big wins against Lewis, Loretto, or Summertown? None of those are top 20 2A teams. The bottom 3 Region 6 teams were much worse than anything in Region 5. Huntingdon was Riverside's only non region team with a winning record and that game was out of hand in the first quarter. Other non region teams were 1-9, 5-6, 2-7, 4-7.

  36. Not a player there, from what I am hearing. As I said in the OR thread, I believe they have a target. But his name is in the rumor mill elsewhere. And again, I don't link names and jobs because I don't want to get anybody in trouble with his current employer if things don't work out. But as I said, rumors are out there and a lot of folks other than me have heard them and he is a name that pretty much gets mentioned with just about every local opening right now.

  37. I wouldn’t disagree with you. The loss at Fayetteville doesn’t look good on Upperman’s resume, especially since Red Bank shut them out. There were some calls that were questionable but every team can say that so no excuses. Add the fact that the game is in Chattanooga and you’d have to say Red Bank is a 12 point favorite.

  40. Springfield has more team speed but not an overwhelming amount. HC has size and physicality. They will have to run the ball better against the heavy fronts than they did the last time around and get helmets on the LB’s that love to play downhill for the Jackets. I fully expect them to do that but I also expect Springfield to hit on a few coverage busts. Looking forward to the game. Springfield fans have always been great. No idea how it ends. Would love to talk more ball but I do not think this thread is a good place for it. Good luck to the Patriots Friday night.
