  1. How is the leaving the bench rule arbitrary? Do you think players should be able to run out on the floor and escalate/participate in an altercation?

  2. “Let me tell you something, Farragut, if you got the guts, you make your way to the National Guard Armory this Saturday night at 7:00 p.m.! Doors open at 6!”

  3. I agree totally with crazyness. Society try’s to make excuses for everyone. Kids and adults need to be held accountable for their actions. Period

  4. Does this happen if the officials call a tighter game? You know, maybe, maybe not. But let me tell your something I DO know. Does this happen if: The players keep their cool: No. The players don't try to fight: No. The players stay on their respective benches: No. The teams show better sportsmanship: No. The coaches control the bench: No. Need I go on? Folks like you need to wake up and quit trying to throw blame on officials for "lOsInG cOnTrOl Of ThE gAmE" when in reality the problem is the players/coaches/parents/fans don't know how/refuse to conduct themselves properly or have good sportsmanship. Cause if you don't, in 40 years there won't be any officials to call games, and you'll be sitting at home on Tuesday nights with your thumb up you butt trying to figure out who to blame.

  5. Refs totally overreacted to this matter. There were no punches thrown and the majority of the players on the court were trying to restore order after the initial dustup. From what I saw: -- Toss #12 for Farragut for acting the way he did. Threw elbows and then started running around the floor yelling -- Personal foul on the WBHS player for the foul of #12 after the rebound. -- FHS shoots a 1n1 for the personal foul, WBHS shoots 2 for the tech on #12, FHS gets the ball under WBHS basket. -- None of this happens w/o the actions of #12. His foolishness and selfishness may cost his team the opportunity to advance. FHS has the game won, don't throw elbows and don't run around the floor yelling after the fact. -- FHS coaching staff was trying to calm everything down during and after the fact. WBHS coach kept yelling at the refs and kept his team and fans worked up over it. -- An overzealous ref made more of this than it was. It was two teams competing and the game started to get rough as it got late. The refs were slow to take control and it got too rough but then one player (#12 for FHS) ignited the problems. Eject him and the game would have ended.

  6. I don't think the TSSAA will do anything. Farragut moves on. The ref's should of restored order and finished the game. Wasn't a fight, just a bunch of guys bouncing around yelling. Call a technical foul on both teams.

  8. Hey now, don't go holdin adults accountable. Them kids knew the consequences. They're supposed to stay calm and composed under pressure and assault.

  9. I think they should finish out the final 1:38 tonight minus any players that would have been ejected for the incident. You can't say Farragut would have absolutely still won the game had it played out. Likely, yes. Absolutely, no. I saw a game this season where a team trailed by 12 with a minute left and won in regulation by 1. Not sure how this ends up. As a D-B fan, I hope we beat the Hill tomorrow and get a game on Monday. I don't want to advance to the Boro without earning it.

  11. First of all, Congrats on a great year for WC 24-8, I'll take it. The quote above cracks me up. Last year it was they played a cupcake schedule for wins and went 12-14. This year you say the top teams we played were just those three (and I agree, exposing us-they were more disciplined, way more height, and executed better), BUT now we play a more competitive schedule-and we are still terrible in 79champs eyes. Lets look at the the schedule: Central Magnet-currently 24-5 district champs, region and substate bound Whitwell- currently 24-8 district champs, region and substate bound Notre Dame- 24-11 DII champs, semifinals Tullahoma- 16-11 R4AAA quarterfinalists White Co- 23-8 Regional quarterfinalists Franklin- 17-13 R6AAAA Quarterfinalists Lawrence Co- 15-12 R4AAA Quarterfinalists, runner up D8AAA York- currently 23-5 D5AA champs, region and substate bound Coffee Co- 29-4 D6AAAA champs, regional semis Cleveland 23-9 R3AAAA quarterfinalists, 10-2 in district (both losses by Bradley) Bradley currently 29-3 D5AAAA champs, regional and substate bound We went 11-7 versus this schedule and 10-0 versus Franklin Co, Shelbyville, Lavergne and siegel like good teams are supposed to. So what's your point? Every team schedules easy games because the boys want to play a hard team-it happens plus you need a gimme in there-ask Dodgen, Joe Pat, etc. But for you to talk out both sides of your mouth, congratulating one minute and criticizing the next is just plain stupid! They hosted a Regional game, first time in 10 years; they won the first Regional game EVER since it became 5 on 5!!!!! 1979!! Am I disappointed that we lost that way? Yes. Could we have played better?Yes. These other teams have been here and are used to this pressure-when has Warren Co? This is a big learning curve for these girls. The teams that we went 1-7 against in your post had three things: height, experience in big games, consistency in winning. WC has not seen those things in years, they are trying to start a winning culture and these girls can do that, setting a foundation for it. Some people like you 79champs, talk a great game (on a keyboard), but can't follow it up. Get your facts straight before you get on here. Peace out!

  13. You guys are a great team. Our crowd was engaged. It was a Mike Tyson brutal war for a while and you guys took the game over again from downtown. The Simms kid is a beast and Jada just is Jada. I hope the Lady Vols really start watching these TN girls play basketball. Jada is one of the best PG’s in the nation. Great effort and leadership by a kid that took a bad injury 48 hours ago. Both programs are really special and the passion and energy that was in that gym was one of a kind. Score don’t do the game justice. It was a war.

  14. I’ll take Westview at home. It will be a rowdy crowd and the student section will give Loretto a ear full. If it was in Loretto, I’d go with Loretto. It will be a great one to see.

  15. Westview is tough. Jada didn’t look quite 100% but she was way better than expected. And got better as the game went on. Played every minute. IMO the zone was a good strategy tonight. GC had a chance in the 4th. Just came down to westview having role players get hot which had been the story very game this year. Harrison and Sims are gonna get theirs. Just seems a different role player has stepped up each game. Now to move on…. What’s the thoughts on GC/Summertown and Westview/Loretto?

Several region champions that didn't qualify for state. And before you give me the "cream rises to the top" spill, yes it does. I'm not talking about them. I'm talking about the 2-6 spots that are many kids last chance to get on the podium and this is just another roadblock from making that happen. I don't think that helps us grow at all.

  19. Or you could continue to blame everyone but the folks who broke the rule or were residing for the players making sure that they followed the rule.

  21. There will be one Sectional game on Monday. It will be Bearden Vs the loser of Science Hill/DB Game with the winner of that game not having to play a sectional game since no other team is left from the other region

  22. I don't disagree with any of that. However, when you have a 13 pt lead with less than 2 min left in the game, you have to be smarter than that. Take the "W" and let that do your talking..

  24. NFHS 10-8 a. Players on the court: (1) Corresponding number from each team – double flagrant fouls, all participants are disqualified, no free throws are awarded, ball is put in play at the point of interruption. (2) Numbers of participants are not corresponding – Flagrant fouls and disqualification for all participants, two free throws are awarded for the offended team for each additional player, offended team awarded a division line throw in. b. Bench personnel leaving the team bench during a fight or when a fight may break out: (1) Do NOT participate in the fight – nonparticipants are assessed flagrant fouls and disqualified. The head coach is assessed a maximum of one indirect technical foul (regardless of the number leaving the bench). If the number leaving the bench for each team is corresponding, no free throws are awarded, and the ball is put in play at the point of interruption. If the number leaving the bench for each team is unequal, a maximum of two free throws are awarded the offended team, followed by a division line throw-in opposite the table. (2) Participate in the fight – all participants are assessed flagrant fouls and disqualified. The head coach is assessed one indirect technical foul for each person leaving the bench and participating in the fight. If the number leaving the bench for each team is corresponding, no free throws are awarded, and the ball is put in play at the point of interruption. If the number leaving the bench for each team is unequal, two free throws are awarded the offended team for each additional person leaving the bench, followed by a division line throw-in opposite the table.”

  25. I just assumed the Dream Team was to acknowledge the best wrestlers in each weight class from middle Tennessee, and not just to whomever. Thanks, I stand corrected.

  26. Kudos to all of the kids. I respect every wrestler on that list (and any kid who chooses the sport) and anyone who spends time on rankings, because it makes for a fun conversation on this board and all of our communities. I was just surprised a couple of kids didn’t make it based on head to head match ups and state tournament results.

  28. There's nothing arbitrary about it and any coach worth his salt had made sure that his players know it. Do not leave the bench. I would be surprised if these players had not been told to never leave the bench.

  29. Anyone who thinks Rankin walking in the door means an immediate turnaround is mistaken. I believe he will be successful there but in time... and I'm not sure success for Boyd looks quite the same as it does for Dilfer. Rankin is the best public school coach in the state, but this is a different animal than 3A. He won't be able to out athlete most schools on his schedule like he's done in the past. Not to mention -- he inherits a 4-6 team that got dominated in region play. D2AA is tough now. I would argue that Lipscomb beats McCallie if they play last year. McCallie didn't have a guy as good as Broome or Richesson. All that being said, I'm excited to see Rankin in the Chattanooga area! Welcome and congrats to the Bucs!

  30. Not me. I picked ER to win and that’s a fact. Groves for ER wrecked Pickett County’s team last night. He’s a very very good player. He dominated their guards and got to the rim at will. There’s only one problem ER will be facing a player that’s going to be able to do that to their team. Groves will not be the best player on the floor on Thursday night number 11 for Clay County will be the best player in the gym. If the game is called correctly and ER try’s to play up on Strong they will be fouled out in the first half. These teams have already played once with Clay winning. I see a repeat performance.

  34. from what I understand, he wasn't looking for a coaching job, but the job found him. : ) his daughter was coming to lipscomb university to play volleyball. also, I think it has nothing to do with money and everything to do with honoring his son that passed away when he was little.

  35. This had been going on since the second quarter, just kept getting worse. You can't see it but all of Farragut's team came to about mid court. It doesn't matter but the Farragut Standing Student Section had been rowdy all night, really getting on the William Blount folks all night. The School officials, and Police were all over the floor trying to restore order. 12 for Farragut wanted to get back and get a piece of 20 for WB, he had everybody trying to hold him back. Bad situation all the way around. I was there for the Oak Ridge Bearden game thank goodness that one ended better, we lost but it did have good sportsmanship.

  39. I will be interested to see or hear if both teams left the benches. My understanding from people there that both had several players leave the bench plus several involved in the pushing/shoving. I am surprised the decision was to end a teams season with 1:30 left in a 3-4 possession game?! Makes one wonder if it wasn’t at Farragut if they call the game. Who makes that final decision? AD? Video shows Farraguts Principal involved..

  40. After watching the video...this was not a fight. Very flagrant foul throwing a player to the ground, suspensions for bench players going onto the floor, and possible suspensions from ref's ejections. Maybe nothing more than that, or maybe TSSAA will feel that they need to "send a message", but not a brawl or fight in my opinion (which means squat).
    1 point
  41. Hard to say. Many people are claiming #12 for Farragut was throwing elbows and connected which led to William Blount player throwing #12 to the ground. Both actions are clearly non basketball plays in modern hoops. We see weekly that accidental contact to the head or neck area is a flagrant every time. Let alone slinging your elbows towards two players heads. This isn’t the 1980s. Assault is not allowed in basketball anymore

  45. Just my opinion, I think Sensabaugh is just passionate about what he does. But sometimes to passionate, and sometimes over the top passionate. I think at David Crockett there was a lot of swelled egos that all came together and clashed. Sensabaugh was right about what he wanted to get done there but when he started trying to force the school board/county and school officals to up grade the facilities the GOB's didn't like that. But he shouldn't have to do that in the first place. The school board should of already taken care of the problems. I think a lot of people are waking up to what is going on in school boards all across the country. As for the thing at Greeneville, yeah that was handled badly. I would hope if he could take that one back he would. You see a lot of that in the youth leagues. Parents coaching from the bleachers. Shouldn't happen anywhere. I really hate to see things falling apart. Like him or not, I think Sensabaugh was filling a big void in this area. Teaching the youth to become better athletes. I don't have a problem with a big ego person as long as their right.
    1 point
  46. I'd say that's a good guess. Maybe Sensabaugh was teaching the younger kids how to play pass defense and not to commit personal fouls. I could see the GOB's getting ticked off about that.
