  1. How dare you bring up academics on a high school sports thread!!! You want to see the gap widen even further? If the voucher program ever passes, public school systems near metro areas will go in the toilet. Proponents tout the word "choice" to the public and they lap it up, but parents will never have control over where their kid goes to school by controlling the funds...the privates grant admission to their school, and would love the right to "cherry pick" the brightest and most well behaved from the publics, while being paid tuition from government funding. Same principal as athletics, only a much more disastrous scale for public education.

  2. I'd bet that you think he's handsome, honest, and can dismantle a buffet in ten minutes too! I knew when I read ManOFMillions post who his "buddy" was, just because I knew you knew about zoning. Shame how many point their finger at Alcoa, Maryville, and a select few others, when their system has the same policy.

  3. Bro, it is not common knowledge. I had to be educated about it. Before I talked to my buddy about it, I thought the only open enrollment school in the area was Crockett. I was just flat wrong. Most schools in the area are open enrollment.

  4. The problem is like I stated before yes TSSAA wants money but do you really believe the schools are going to vote for their district champs playing each other in week 11 instead of maybe the Quarter finals? Not smart if you are a coach for your kids. Once again if most are open zone whats the point of a multiplier? The same Multiplier would county for Heritage, Williams Blount, Maryville, and Alcoa since they are in the same county but three different school systems. It's not like you can live zoned for Heritage now and just go to Maryville (They are at capacity now) and why getting a house in the City is hard to come by). Same advantage? If you truly believe that then you have no clue the difference between public and Privates. A coach from Maryville can't drive to Nashville and recruit a player the same way Knox Catholic has that right and what happened with Tyler Baron coming from Ensworth to Knox Catholic once Knox Catholic went in the Private School division. Not the same in the least bit

  5. Yes, Gavin visited Navy and committed on the spot is what I heard. What a great honor for him and his family. The Noe family are Maverick all the way. His dad played in mid late 80s and was a walk on at Tennessee, his older brother was an in credible offensive and defensive lineman for the Mavs just few short years ago, and now plays at Davidson in North Carolina. I know all of Maverickland is proud of Gavin, and we are all looking forward to seeing him and this team in just a few weeks. August 21 can't get here soon enough. GO MAVS

  6. Still no correct answers. I threw Willie’s out since he is drunk/high/insane. There is a twist ending. I think people aren’t playing because they think it’s obvious. The answer is not obvious. Keep playing.

  7. Except the private can hand pick from maybe 2 million and give a financial break, transportation and a quality education to only the elite that they choose. No thanks! How about cutting the financial aid then come back to play with the publics.

  8. Max is special and most importantly he really is a good kid. My son, who was a senior and went to a different high school down the road a bit, spent a good portion of last summer/fall wrestling Max at Nahshon's and when I went to one of the club practices I couldn't get over how much he had changed physically. Night and day. I was texting another Dad as I was watching Max go live with my son and I said Max was a dark horse to win whatever weight class he was at. It was that apparent and I had no doubts. I should have said he was the favorite in hindsight, lol. My son had previously warned me that Max was a complete hand full even before his freshman year had started. Max's motor is fantastic (I think it is his best attribute) and he wins a ton of matches by simply outworking his opponent. Max's success isn't a surprise to any of the parents and wrestlers around here, I can assure you of that. Also, don't forget that Max has been at practice for years and years getting beat up by the likes of Hunter Mason and Kodiak Cannedy plus all the DB players from a couple years ago and then throw in his early coach being Joe Kemmerer (the importance of Joe cannot be overstated, outstanding technician and a no non-sense hard ####). Max is equipped to deal with whatever someone brings to the table. Stay humble and hungry Max. Enjoyed watching you wrestle last year.

  9. I don't mind the 2 year cycles, but Z plan would have to be tweaked. And by tweaked I mean overhauled. It can work, just not the way that they executed it before.

  10. You do realize that HS football is there for the kids, right? It's easy for you to throw some elitist comment out there that degrades struggling programs, but what isn't easy is to elevate struggling programs into a competitive team every night of the season. One last thing, football is elective...kids aren't forced to participate in an activity that you obviously think is an embarrassment to them if they don't achieve a certain level of success, but if they do elect to play, they get the same sense of belonging, the same tutelage and mentorship, the same physical fitness, and the same commitment of their time away from elements of society detrimental to them becoming productive citizens. Take the option to play, even for a "bad" (your perception) team, away from those who wish to play and you've taken something from them that you can't replace.

  11. Yea I couldn't agree more. At the end of the day this is high school kids who love the sport just as much as the guys from Oakland, and other powerhouses. Red Boiling Springs has had 13-16 kids total on their football team at times and they take the field as happy as can be. Does it suck for those guys, to me it does but to them Fridays are the best nights of the week.

  12. Lowering the mercy rule even more for our already soft world wasn’t the answer.
