  1. Nothing but respect for South Pitt and your program. You guys are the standard by which other TN 1A teams are judged. Your guys may very well run us off the field Friday night but they'll know they've been in a ball game when they wake up Saturday morning lol. I just hope for good weather and a good clean injury-free game.

  2. It's sad, honestly. I wonder where the folks are that were defending him, claiming he wasn't the 'cussing coach' and was motivating and just what this team needed. Sorry, but if this is the 'new school', I'd take 'old school' over it any day.

  3. You were definitely not NFL good. You barely even got to start and only because of low numbers. You went from the sports report to the court report quick. You tried to be with TN Top 100 but thankfully he realized you were a cancer to the business.

  4. Fair prediction, I think it will actually be a good game to have every year if possible.

  5. This years version of the Pirates and Bulldogs are really all we should be concerned about . Both teams will come into the PITT Friday night rich on tradition and hungry to prove themselves. It will boil down to the size of Murphy vs the athleticism of So Pitt. I give the edge to my Pirates by 2 scores.

  6. Man there's too many to list that would be barn burners. Sp played Bell County KY a few years back ended up splitting the series 1-1 but I enjoyed making the trip and the overall atmosphere. It's nice seeing how you stack up against other states.

  7. Long time no see, guys. I figured I had to make an appearance for this one. Let's all stop playing a game here. NC only has 4 classes, TN has 6. It's apples and oranges to compare the two. NC 1A, by enrollment, covers 1A-3A in TN. Cherokee High School claims right at 580, Alcoa High School claims 680. TN 1A cut-off currently is 374 students. There is no school in 1A in NC that even deserves to share the same field as the Tornadoes. Talent-wise, NC 1A would struggle with many of our 1A programs (Peabody, Mckenzie, South Pittsburg, etc..). God forbid they ever had to run with schools of comparable size.

  8. As a long time former sports editor, I used to establish a relationship with the stat keeper for teams I didn't cover directly, but the teams I covered weekly I kept my own stats. The way things work now, you are lucky to get the newspapers to get your score. It's the lazy world we live in and journalism died a wicked death long ago. The newsppers these days want the coaches and everyone else to do their jobs for them.

  10. Everybody has different versions of 'old school' and what that entails. As for the major walkout, that wasn't as major as you would think. It's just what people want to talk about. The root of the problem, no matter who the coach is, was established and put on blast the past couple of years. Hammontree was told no to expanding his staff, no positions, no teaching positions, and we all know what happened with the field house. Other threads mention the depth of concern for the program over the years and I've been one to mention quite a few things not just of the administration changes & county changes over the tenure of Hammontree. It is always more than us in the community sees. But even this new head coach has said that he came in and told them if he was going to coach there, what he needed, it's just sad that they listened to him and nobody else because of who he is. The kids deserved it before now. He tells everybody that will listen that he's not once been told no. Whether that's good or bad, yet to be determined. I'm glad things are changing for the kids, but the same old blame game of coaching isn't truly fair, especially when you see the actual difference in Shad and Hammontree. Like others have mentioned, that's night and day. Hammontree is still teaching at Heritage from what I've been told. He has the strength and conditioning classes for athletes and students and actually takes care of all the athletic fields on campus. That's incredible dedication to the overall good of HHS. That man deserves a lot of respect.

  13. Good region win tonight for the Tribe. Bad region loss for the Pioneers. Both came against Morristown schools. This game was originally supposed to be in the 'Boro, but is now in Kingsport due to the lighting issues at Crockett's stadium. I see the Tribe winning this game by a lot. I'll go 49-6. What say y'all?

  14. I shared this on another thread. Wanted to give others a chance to see it. I did not write it, but I largely agree with its sentiments. Weigh in T'ers... Everything I write in blogs, say on podcasts or tweet is based on fact and my observations of on-field performance. I have been called negative and pessimistic, but I’m neither. I’m a realist. And here’s some real news: My team hasn't won a championship. They have underachieved many times over the years, have created inadequate rosters, underspent when they could have put themselves over the top, have hired and extended the wrong coach and have generally half-(butted) their way to getting their next championship. It has resulted in zero championships. I want my team to win. Every day. Unfortunately, that’s not going to happen. But what has happened these last few years has been hard to watch, knowing how much time and money I invest into an organization that hasn’t equally invested in their fans. If the way I write, talk or tweet about the team is upsetting, it’s likely because you’re an enormous homer who thinks the team can do no wrong and should be praised even when they’re not meeting expectations. And that’s exactly what this core has done, and what this organization has done. Everyone has their own way of being a fan. There’s no such thing as being a good fan or a bad fan. If you’re a fan who believes your team is always acting in the best interest of the on-field product, great. If you’re a fan who thinks your coach/AD is batting 1.000 in his career in scheme and in-game decisions, awesome. If you’re a fan who watches a little bit here and there and waits to be locked in until the postseason, wonderful. If you’re a fan who thinks everyone should be benched and fired, superb. If you’re a fan who hates analytics and thinks stats and only team wins and losses matter, good for you. If you’re a fan who needs to have analytics 101 open during each game and would rather their team lead the league in this or that analytic than actual wins, that’s cool too. Again, there’s no such thing as a good fan or a bad, and however you want to consume this team or any team is fine. In the end, all fans are irrationally tied to a group of millionaires (or students) who likely share contrasting views to you on the world, economics, politics, vaccines and life, playing a game no fan has control over. So who cares how you root or enjoy or hate-watch your team? The whole concept of being a fan at its core is ridiculous. I know at its core the whole idea of being a fan is ridiculous. Yet, it still bothers me to my core when they lose. I realize it’s not healthy for the result of a game to determine my mood and general well-being on a daily basis for six or seven months, and then have the team’s handling of the offseason affect those two things the other months. It’s ridiculous. It’s silly. It’s illogical. It’s unhealthy. But it’s who I am. For me as a fan, I expect my team to be great. That’s how I consume them. It might be unreasonable, but I grew up on them being great/pursuing greatness, and believe they should still be. My tone in my writing, my words and my tweets is based on the foundation of wanting them to win. Winning the region isn’t good enough. Winning a postseason round isn’t good enough. Winning the 2nd round isn’t good enough. Reaching the semis isn’t good enough. Winning the Gold Ball is the only thing that’s good enough and this current team’s window to do that is being held up a stack of unread books.

  17. Well I'd say the '86 and '87 Murphy teams that had 5 D1 signees, including the Gatorade national high school player of the year and future NFL All Pro wide receiver along with an All ACC offensive lineman would have something to say about that. I think it's safe to assume that Murphy team would be just fine talent wise against any public 1A TN that's been fielded. Look I'm not going to get into a pissing contest though, back to the matter at hand. Bottomline both are historic programs in their state and although Murphy doesnt remotely have the talent and athletes they once had, I think they'll still show up and give South Pitt a decent game Friday. I just wish they could have played before the pipeline of talent dried up here.

  19. Agreed! We just need a way for this discussion to go beyond this forum. Lots of us on here care deeply about HS football in Blount County but it seems like those who are making decisions that impact the programs don’t share the same passion.

  21. We always know computers are right. Lipscomb is a different animal this year but go ahead and use a private school. Now Mallard Creek played Buford this year. Buford rolled. Not many public schools in NC are going to beat the privates in TN. Your computer says last year 2021 if Shelby and Alcoa played it would be a 33-31 Alcoa win. Your computer predicts if the 1a champions played last year Tarboro beats South Pitt 21-20.

  22. I don’t know much about 1A in NC, But I will say this with confidence. There is not a NC state championship team in 1A that’s any more talented than some of the SP Greenback McKenzie Peabody championship teams. Football is football no matter where you are geographically or demographically. 2011 SP had plenty of kids that were not white and got the ball slammed down our throats by a bunch of well coached white kids. Lol trust me when I say SP was much more athletic and talented. Apparently both teams have been stronger in the past. I promise there is not a NC 1A team that has had any more talent than SP 2007.

  27. A bit strange is true.... he did have a couple pass attempts in the previous games that he dropped. QB's wanna know they just gotta get the ball to you or close and you are gonna make a play. Last week did a lot to build some confidence in the QB with Page... I think we will see a balance mix of Page, Brown and Marshall and a taste of Dollaway this week. I think Blackman uses these next two games to dial in their playmakers before paying the juggernaut Oakland. Hopefully his will be a time they also clean up the penalties and focus on attacking he ball at the line of scrimmage.

  28. They good 1a schools in TN would compete but it would be no cake wake. Wallace Rose had Javonte Williams when they were 1a. Todd Gurley old school Tarboro is 1a now. They are now the big dog in 1a. Taylor was isnt committed to TN unless it just happened

  30. Easy little feather head. TC is down, but they won't always be. That "sewer field" that you speak of, has seen more talent and State Champions play on it than your Indian Field will EVER see. Congrats on the win this year, but don't talk smack to a team that has more State Championships in football that your school has total in all sports, including your precious previous 2!

  31. Yeah, you guys lost a lot when Gentry retired. I don’t know all the details of the Nelson situation but I think administration screwed up letting him walk and that was a huge blow to the program and defensive identity.

  34. I would say Sp has the same respect for Murphy. Sp is really young this year in just about every aspect of the game. We graduated a lot from last season SP still has some speed at the skill positions but we start A LOT of underclassmen. I wish the game last season would have happened

  37. I’m not knocking the scheduling, as these games are historical and need to be played. Rivalry games are what make Friday nights what they are. Only saying they haven’t been tested.

  39. I just think it’s really cool these 2 teams are playing. 2 schools traditionally that are the best in their state. Game like this only helps you get ready for the playoffs. Commander don’t use the speed thing. The SMC has heard this for years and years about how they are going to get ran of the field from the schools on the East side of the state. The SMC has over 30 state championships since 1972 when NC went to East vs West. You said something about atmosphere. I would say it’s hard to beat a Swain Murphy game on atmosphere.

  40. Won in 2019 with a freshman QB. That freshman is a senior and I’m going with him and his teammates to even the series up. This is a really good Patriot defense too. It will be a really tough game, one that could come down to a big play or two. If our defense gets a couple turnovers or a score, I think 24-17 Big Red.

  41. Was this the radio announcer for Westmorland who was taken down at Macon when he stepped outside the box during game while on air or was it the Westmorland PA guy who was off that night who was standing next to his brother who was video taping the game for Westmorland. There is such a thing as press box decorum which encompasses the pressbox and video filming areas. A few blanks need to be filled in to get a better grasp of the situation

  42. No worries... Blaze fans are excited... Its been a minute since they ad this kind of buzz around the program. It reminds e of when Jennings was here or even I-train. Tygard has done a lot to energize the fans. players and community, Building a reputation is part of building a program. There is a lot of work to do....Anxious to see what happens ort the next 2-3 years

  45. Marshall county will win by as much as they want. More than half of last years Tullahoma senior team was made up of players from Franklin county and other surrounding schools. They don't have that this year. The bad thing is North middle school in Franklin county has a head coach that encouraged his son and a few other athletes to go to Tullahoma high school, Why in the world would ones that are in charge let a coach be coaching at your middle school that is a good recruiter for a high school that isn't in your county ?

  48. These boards are great for anonymous fun and football but let's keep it somewhat truthful. CoachT has 112,000 members I can find 1 post predicting a Loretto win last Friday. Congrats to @cascadehomer with the pick of the week. All weekend we were told the General and I ran our mouth last season after the Loretto game. We brag relentlessly and show no class when we win but disappear like "cowards" from the forum and need to "man up" immediately following a loss. Going back and looking at last year's thread shows all that is a lie. The LORETTO AT FORREST 2021 thread had exactly 5 posts total. Check it out, it was popping. I still haven't commented on it but we really rubbed it in. All the random Loretto fans who sprouted out over this weekend didn't bother either. And finally, here's the General's post from last Tuesday which no one quoted over the weekend. Very brash, egotistical, full of bragging but somewhat prophetic. 21 points- CHECK, raucous crowd- CHECK, turnover or 2 - CHECK, bad road trip (one of the Forrest buses broke down on the way to the game so all players, coaches, managers, trainers, cheerleaders had to pile up in one bus and drive the last hour and half like sardines) - CHECK

  49. Not about who is or isn't the Sheriff, who sits where, or what ethnic background the man was...when an officer sworn to honor and protect the Constitution handcuffs an American citizen for spoken words, he needs to be held accountable. I personally hope that it costs him his job, and some cash from his own pocket...too many people view the police as the ultimate authority, and believe that you (or anyone) should just blindly comply with whatever "order" they wish to give you...and I do mean too many on both sides of the badge.
