  1. Sadly, guys on here spend more time looking at the data than TSSAA officials. The numbers below were reported for the 2022-2023 school year. Milan reported 521 students in Milan High and 26 in Milan High Academy. The sum 547 (137 kids per grade) was over the 3A threshold for that classification period. Milan reported 533 and the cutoff was 541. Curiously, they reported 579 (145 kids per grade) in grades 5-8. Two years later with those larger classes moving up they dropped to a reported 501 enrollment. They also average 145 kids per grade in PK-4. So Pk-8 grade Milan had 145 kids per grade. But 9-12 drops to 125??? https://nces.ed.gov/ccd/schoolsearch/school_list.asp?Search=1&DistrictID=4702970

  6. Is the Establishment on Lebanon Road in Hermitage going to ever let DII play on Fridays or Saturdays again in the State Championships? Last time it was not on a Thursday was back in 2018. C'mon T$$AA, some of us fans would love to venture down to Nooga for some football without burning multiple work days.... 😤

  7. Nah, I’ve said it for three years now, they are scared of competition. Now I’m beginning to think they are petrified. They have bounced around so many classifications (2A, 4A, 3A) that they finally just resorted to cheating. (Straight up cheating). They have their guy in the T$$AA and are basically saying “do something about it”. Not sure about decades ago but the past several years they have run from Covington and then Alcoa and a couple of others. Now it’s Westview, Covington and a couple of others. I’ll say it here and coin the wording: Milan is the best 3A school in 2A!

  8. Definitely it’s best shot. They lose QB1, QB2, RB1, RB2, WR1, WR2, TE1 (QB2) and several starters outside of that. Genuinely don’t know where they go at QB next year unless they get out and ‘croot one. The only non-senior QB on the roster is.. rough

  10. You'll get a wrist bracelet before entering the gates. Good for all day. You can exit & reenter. I've been known to pack a decent cooler. Sammiches, snacks, drinks. Go to your vehicle in between games if you like. Plenty of that inside and around Finley Stadium as well.

  13. FWIW Maxpreps Strength of schedule rankings. Page .4 West 25.5 Powell 14.6 Again this year, the Knoxville teams have played much tougher competition. So, if Powell beat Page in '21, West beat Page in '22 and '23, doesn't that already make them the "Buffalo Bills"? I think that playing a schedule like that definitely works against them when all of the sudden there is a West or Powell across from you. Could losing 3 SC's in a row to Knox teams be in the back of their heads? Like, oh no,here we go again type thing?

  17. My guess is you'll get the alignments and then some type of policy/language to address the Schools within a school moving forward. It won't be as timely as some folks will want but I think this is how it'll play out.

  18. We went to Murfreesboro this summer and went 5-1 and only loss to Bearden, who is really good. Our 2 posts Reeves and Lannom will be dominant and Riding has the potential to be a Miss Basketball Candidate. Davidson and Skinner will be good as well. Bailey, Patterson and Hart can all hold their own off the bench to relieve guards. Our back up post McVay can hold her own. We just need some games. We have incoming Freshman that we like. By January I think we will be really tough to beat. Westview and others will be as well. We play Dyersburg and South Side right out of the gate so we will play great teams to get more experience and learn how to make this work. I agree life without Hart and Turner will not be ideal but we will get better. Just have to stay healthy. Gibson County is blessed to have the talent, coaches, facilities and administration it has for years. Very blessed program and we are very thankful for the blessings.

  19. You will see some traditionally West teams become East with the shift of 2A. Geographically the loss of Forrest and Cascade to 3A , and the requests to move up in classes by Waverly and Harpeth could make some teams have to go to the other side of the bracket and make travel a little more difficult.

  21. Here are the 5A rankings according to the Tennessee Sports Writers Association. Somebody tell me what is wrong with this picture. 1. Page 2. Sevier Co 3. Beech 4. Southwind 5. Munford 6. Powell 7. Shelbyville 8. WEST 9. East Hamilton 10. Tennessee High How can West, the back to back state champions that just beat Powell at Powell be ranked 8th behind the team they just beat? The real answer is the morons that vote on this, don't actually watch the games. But they ain't paying attention. I have West back in Chattanooga for a shot at the 3 peat. According to Max Preps strength of schedule rankings, West has a sos of 25.5, Powell 14.6, Page .4, yep Point Four! And Seveir Co sos is in the negative. Lol. Like I said somebody ain't paying attention.

  23. Westview actually has a tough non district schedule this year...USJ, Dyersburg, South Gibson, Nike tournament in Phoenix just to name a few. With Brent back from injury, Gray coming over from South Fulton, and returning Sims, Trevathan, and Evans they should be pretty tough this year. The question will be their bench and what production it can bring

  24. Gibson County lost two stars for sure but they still have a lot of good basketball players. Westview lost Alexander, who is really good, York lost Beaty, Loretto lost Clifton and Cozart....Gibson County will be really good down low and has a PG that is really good that don't turn it over and has other players to help. Wilkins is really good at developing and reloading. South Side is really good as is Dyersburg. Pickett County is the favorite in Single A. Really good. Moore County, Wayne County, Union City and Greenfield will be in the mix as well.

  25. Because it’s Milan. See below: Greg Scott Member from Milan High School Email: [email protected] Board of Control Representing Schools in Athletic District 8 - Term Expires December 2026 There is more to it if you look up the entire coaching staff and understand decades of favoritism by the T$$AA.

  26. Classic game, great play calling by Westview. QB is very good, THOSE WIDE RECEIVERS ARE AMAZING!!! I don't see them guys getting the credit that they deserve. That made several nice / clutch catches that other WR can't. That QB better enjoy those weapons while they last. IF I had a son that was a 9th - 10th grade WR with potential, I would definitely transfer him to Westview to play with this Simpson Kid. #thankmelater lol

  28. If this is true, that is a terrible indictment of your coaching staff. I can absolutely guarantee you that successful coaches don’t move secondary kids from safety to corner on a regular basis…even in middle school. Coaches build in autos based on formation and shifts (cov. 3 to cov. 2/8 etc.) These come with adjustments to reads/keys based on where you play.

  29. I’m not a fan of Alcoa I’d like nothing more than to see them get beat! I have watched them play Ravenwood a 6 A school that’s undefeated, who just beat Oakland in Murfreesboro, and it was a close game throughout. So yeah I’ve seen them and if your team makes it to Chattanooga then good luck to you!

  30. I think our offense matches up well with their defense as well. A one dimensional offense I wouldn’t think would do well against the Springfield defense either. I like our chances. One thing is for sure, unlike 2022, they know what’s coming to town Friday night.

  34. Yeah, but it doesn't always work that way. Some ADs and principals have more influence in getting placed where they want to be placed than others do. When William Blount is placed in 1-6A, and Maryville, who is closer to the other 1-6A schools than William Blount is, you can pretty much throw that ruler thing out the window. William Blount lobbied to be placed in 1-6A. Other schools lobby for placement for various reasons, too.

  35. Great post OP and one that was highly debated a couple of years ago. With so many 5/6A schools in Williamson and Davidson counties, you can put all of the schools in a hat and draw for regions and all the schools are relatively close. Since we moved up from 4A, for some reason, we have had more success. Indy, Franklin and Giles are traditional rivals and all are typically good and, add Fairview in the mix. If Indy and Franklin were back in 5A, their schedules and W/L records would be completely different. They usually are in 6A anyway. Even with what seems like a weak schedule, we have made it to the ‘ship the past few years and, this is despite a large amount of skepticism. Add in we have several top college commits and one 5* commit. I’m hoping this year we bring the gold ball home!
