So just shut up and clap ? I remember a time when a fan could question a coaching staff’s decisions… you even said coaches and players were not prepared for the onside kicks… so no one besides you can question the coaches? I’m seeing things at Maryville that I haven’t seen in many years and excuse me for not just clapping and following blindly… like a lot of other fans on here I’ve got blood and sweat involved in Maryville High School football… I was a member of 2 State Championship teams so forgive me for not taking your advice of not daring to voice my opinion. Having high expectations from everyone associated with Maryville football is why Maryville has the legacy it does , I’ve been to many other high schools that have a few parents in the stands and that’s it . Maryville has the support they do because fans who actually played at Maryville 50 years ago still follow the team . I don’t want Maryville to become a team that has the parents and a few others there who just sit there and politely clap no matter what happens on the field.

Just wanted to let the Coach T community know that Dr. Pete Kelley “Mountain Troll” has passed away. He was extremely instrumental in bringing TSSAA football to our mountain. Eagles Football owes a lot to Dr. Pete Kelley, who believed in the dream of SMMHS and worked hard to ensure we had a stadium, field with drainage, permanent building for concessions, restrooms, and equipment, and regular mowings of our fields. We realize some of you may have never met him, but we can all recognize what all his efforts brought to our program and where we are today as a football team, and as an successful academic IB school. We will let you know once arrangements have been made, but our hearts and thoughts go out to his family. Thank you Dr. Kelley for your unwavering support of our Eagle program. #EagleUP

I'm an East Hickman supporter and this is my first post. The game was streamed on TNL Today and can be viewed on Facebook for those that want to watch. The fact is the penalty count was not 18-1 . By my count, there were 12 penalties for 128 yards against Riverside and 6 penalties for 57 yards against East Hickman. East Hickman's Penalties: They were called for Offsides around 10:44 left in 1st qtr, Offsides on the extra point attempt with 8:02 left in 1st qtr which led to Riverside getting a 2 pt conversion instead, a delay of game with around 4:02 in the 2nd qtr, a 15 yard personal foul on the extra point as time expired in the 1st half that was enforced in the 2nd half, a 15 yard personal foul with 1:39 left in the 4th qtr after an EH TD, and a 15 yard personal foul with around 1:25 in the 4th quarter. I don't think the officials were great either, but I don't think they were one-sided. I didn't agree with 2 of the pass interference calls that benefitted EH. At 1:25:07 in the TNL Today stream, I thought EH's #24 was held on the play where Riverside got an interception. I felt compelled to post because I don't think East Hickman's season should be diminished for a penalty count rumor that is untrue. The bottom line is Riverside is a better team. They have lots of playoff experience. EH had their chances that they couldn't capitalize on. I'm still proud of the season our kids had.

Can Springfield finally get the Henry County playoff monkey off its back? I would say anything is possible after what the Jackets did at Munford in the 4th quarter. A lot of Jacket fans feel like Springfield should’ve won the regular season match up this year against the Patriots. I hope this series continues next year when Springfield drops to 4A. Should be a fun week this week.

This will be a good game. SC looks to be playing inspired football. Can't afford to overlook any team at this point in the season. Home field advantage may be the difference in this one.

No doubt that Marshall has a really talented team. I've personally watched station camp over the course of the season , they have won 6 of their last 7 ball games. They look to be better in all stages of the game. After a rough start to the season including 3 of the first 5 games were against 5A or 6A teams (Beech, Gallatin, Springfield) and losing to pearl by 1 pt when electing to go for the win instead of the tie. Station Camp seems to be firing on all cylinders as of late. They will give Marshall a game, they arent the same 40-7 team Marshall saw earlier in the year. I would advise Marshall not to over look them I Believe Station Camp will be locked in and focused with revenge on their minds as they already expected this rematch to come weeks ago. Lets have ourselves a ball game.

So sorry to hear this. He was indeed a great person with a servants' heart for others. He's leaving a legacy of love for his family and all of those who were fortunate enough to have met him. Thanks for informing everyone.

It seems that SC has improved significantly throughout the season, but I can’t see them improving so dramatically in all 3 phases of the game that they can take down MC unless the Tigers just fall apart. I’ll take MC by +21

I think the punt by 21 was very special. While KO’s didn’t make it too end zone, we did get a gift with WB starting on their 1. The others we had good coverage. The 2 onside kicks were outstanding kicks by WB. Coaches and players weren’t prepared and something they need to work on. If that unhappy with the coaching, don’t come to game. You are in the minority. Fans don’t yell at the band director during the half time show if they don’t like the songs or formations, Grow up, move on and enjoy the Rebels playoff run for an 18th golf ball.

If we have 5 turnovers and commit all the penalties we did the last time we played, it could be a long night. It’s been a few years since West went out in the second round, let’s try hard to not make this the year we break that streak. Team has looked fairly solid last two weeks.

Thie game has me worried. The last time we played they won the battle but lost the war. Through out history Maryville has been the type team that has gotten better as the year rolled on going into the playoffs but we have actually went backward for some reason. The Alcoa game and the first half of the Farragut game should tell anyone that. Lately you never know what your going to get or what team is going to show up. The on side kick situation Friday Night was something a football fanatic would have to possibly drive down to Sequoyah High School to see, not at Jim Renfro Field. When a fan has to yell from the stands warning the team and coaches what's going on don't get bent out of shape and send Barney Fife and Andy Taylor into the stands to interrogate your 12th man, he's just trying to help. Maryville won a lot of games over the years just being much smarter than the other teams and that part has slowly disappeared. Now we're the one's being made the fools out of even by William Blount on the onside kickoffs. We have the right kids no doubt and they work hard but some things are very obvious to anyone who watches them week in and week out, Running the same three plays against Alcoa reminded me of a fly trying to go out the window that died trying when the door was only two foot away.

If South Pitt gets a sizable lead , the Pirates better keep a level head because CP will be looking to expel players for the 3rd round. These are Kids and they will be out for revenge anyway they can get it. Either by winning or what they are well KNOWN for! I’ll leave it at that. Spitt by 14

Stars that's just Science Hill for you, that's why nobody realistically going to give them a chance at Maryville they don't play discipline football. Maryville should be playing Cleveland with 56 seconds left the toppers with 1 timeout left, Cleveland 2nd down up 28-27 all they had to do is take a knee and they're leaving Johnson city celebrating, instead they're still running plays, they fumbled and the rest was history. Who you most feel bad for in situations like that are the seniors

I completely agree with you about it not being fair for the D2 teams to win two games to play for a state championship. Eliminate D1 and d2 and put everyone back together in four divisions and force the D2AAA schools to play in the AAAA division. That seems fair.

I agree that the Jackets have to get that monkey off their back against HC. The Jackets are very capable of winning in Paris but they more than likely can’t afford too many mistakes. The Jackets are 1-7 in the last 8 games against the Patriots. Hopefully they can overcome the history this go around.

Time for private schools to break away from the TSSAA and look out for their own best interests. If the TSSAA then forbids publics from playing privates, fine. The competition among the private schools at every classification equals or exceeds the highest level of public school competition at the same general classification level. Also will improve the enrollment of private schools for athletics with no sit-out period.
