  1. So someone help me understand the numbers behind this.. Milan reported enrollment is 501, correct? I don't see a reported enrollment for Milan Academy anywhere, but a Google search leads me to the number 26. So if you count those students in with Milan, it boosts the number up to 527. Maybe this is where the math is failing for me, but Waverly and Harpeth both opted to voluntarily move from 2A to 3A. Which means to even the classifications, the cut off from 2A to 3A moved to Cannon Co at 528 in 2A to Forrest at 533 in 3A. Milan would still be below the biggest school in 2A COUNTING the Academy enrollment. Now maybe it's just because I'm using logic, but someone help me understand who is this really screwing? If we were talking hundreds of students, I could see the fuss. But I think, while there be SOME merit to the motives, the reach of this "scandal" is way over blown. And the other piece of it is what does Milan have to show for all this "cheating" anyways? It hasn't resulted in any trophies. Maybe I'm wrong and they win 4 of the next 5 or something and lowering their enrollment by 26 kids starts a Milan 2A dynasty... All I know is they'll have to go through Huntingdon each year to do it.

  2. What a lot of these posters don’t understand is that the Milan “Admin” they keep talking about had nothing to do with the academy numbers and TSSAA. When Milan first got the grant and the academy came into existence Milan contacted TSSAA and asked what to do. They told us and that was that. At no point did the BOC become involved. People saying he had influence are just trying to stir the pot. And I want to go on record again by saying I. And see how this looks fishy. I have said that from the beginning. But when people are presented with facts and then take them and twist them to fit their agenda I have a problem with that. Watch… their about to twist this.

  3. He said the original plan was to have students from other schools attend their “Academy”. That didn’t happen as the other schools utilized their own grant money. Marshall County has a Vocational School in Lewisburg. CTE Students from Forrest, Cornersville, and Marshall County are bussed there daily. It is a separate building at a separate address. Many students (3 bus loads from Forrest) ride the bus to SpotLowe and take their courses. Many ride back to their high school and leave to go to work. They don’t play sports. This is more legit than Milan Academy and we count every kid on our enrollment report. Forrest and Marshall Co could both drop a classification if they pulled the Milan Stunt.

  7. I've been contacted since my earlier post regarding NFHS feeds for Oakland. It appears that this week it will be coming from someone that I know will do a MUCH better job if I understood correctly. I look forward to it as I'll be out of state visiting family.

  13. I think some of you AC folks are confused about our running style. I promise we can score just as fast running the ball as you all can throwing it. We can methodically move it if we want but we can take the top off of it at anytime from any spot on the field. We aren’t exactly a 3 yards and cloud of dust running game.

  14. @GeneralForrest What are the chances Marion County has to face another 2A West team with integrity issues in the championship game? Their fan base should be livid to get hosed 3 times in 10 years in a TSSAA state championship game.

  15. Everyone who follows the small school stuff knows this about SD already. I think they have 2 champions and 7 placers back. What will be fun to watch, to me anyways, is the battle between Signal and Pigeon Forge. Signal will probable win the first 6 classes and at 175lbs. Can they get enough bonus points though, because PF will be good enough to get bonus points just about everywhere else.

  16. Incorrect. The schools already had CTE programs. The three directors worked hand in hand creating the Academy from the ground up. Ive tried to keep my personal opinion out of things, and just present facts about how the Academy came to fruition. Because any Milan posters “opinion” will be twisted and turned into us being “liars and cheaters”. But after reading about this project and listening to the CTE director talk about it at a couple of board meetings back when it first took off, I believe the original plan was that The Academy would be open to seniors of Milan, Peabody, SGC and GC. They would be enroll in Milan Academy, and still graduate from their respective schools. Again, it was created as a “flexible alternative high school education”. When Milan’s CTE director left for the State CTE director job, things changed. Peabody decided to open their own Academy. Their head football coach just happens to be the principal of their academy. So why would he, as an administrator who was well aware of the project from the beginning, change and separate from the project? If you ask me, he did it to try to “expose” Milan for hiding enrollment, that they were open and honest about from the beginning. I’m not sure what GC calls their Academy, but they have a Director of Innovative High School and she was the lead on the entire project. I believe Milan was selected as the Academy Site because they had the best resources at the time, as they were in the middle of a multimillion dollar upgrade of their facilities. When I look at some of the people involved, i have my own conspiracies about why Milan was selected. But that’s just what they are, conspiracies. Much like what these Huntingdon posters keep posting.

  18. After watching this past week of wrestling, its quite apparent that Soddy Daisy has simply "reloaded" from last year's record breaking championship run. While they may have lost 2 state champions along with another state qualifier, they simply "reloaded" in those positions. Their MS and JV guys have trained their butts off and filled the empty positions. Look for another state run this year, in a year I might end up saying they are going to be better than they were last year (if that is even possible). Signal Mtn has a good team this year but that team is nothing more than Uhorchuk WC with one or two extra good wrestlers. Signal Mtn's stock will go way down once JoJo graduates. SD is a "program" built to grow and harvest champions.

  19. Man I shouldn’t even reply to this but I will cause I e seen your posts over the years and think you are a pretty good guy. Milan isn’t the only one with an academy. Peabody has one and Gibson Co does too I believe. Humboldt was not part of the grant. I agree with you about being able to take CTE classes when you and I were in school but there is more to it than when we were in school. And that is why I have stated that I can see how this looks fishy. I don’t work for the school system so I don’t know all the ins and outs of the benefits to the CTE program. But they are not the only ones with an academy whose numbers were not included in the TSSAA figure. However again they were transparent with the TSSAA from the beginning and did what they were told. Now I’m done. Good day sir.

  21. I just want to know who were the architects or brains behind the academy? Who got the ball rolling on it, or jumped through the hoops to get it in their school? If it was anybody involved with the sports programs like the said AD and he was pushing for it at the time it was instated then….. Houston we have a problem. That would show motive and intent to have this Milan Academy, and tells me it is there there for other reasons than education.

  23. TSSAA has been mandating who privates play since 2009…. Hence the multiplier and the financial aide league. This proposal was brought up last January and voted in by all the ADs in AA and AAA, including the AD at his school. Mark Reeves points this out in the article. It is what it is. Sorry his AD didn’t inform him of this change months ago.

  34. Overall, I agree that the TSSAA is too blunt of a tool to have any business trying to use a one size fits all approach to schedule non-region games for every DII-AAA team. The CPA game is a good example of that, and Ingle Martin sounds entirely reasonable not wanting to play a team 3 hours away when instead he could play an opponent 20 minutes away that will be a better situation for both teams, schools, families and fans, and budgets and is a tougher opponent to boot. Rankin, conversely, sounds like a whiner because, while he tries half heartedly to create a safety concern, he's clearly upset because he'd rather not play a non-region game he knows he'll lose 9 times out of 10. McCallie and Boyd Buchanan are 4 miles apart, both just east of downtown Chattanooga, so they don't even have to battle the horrible traffic. There are a lot of coaches who would have responded by encouraging their kids to step up and see it as an opportunity to test themselves, get tougher and see where they can improve for playoffs, and take their chance at shocking everyone. Some coaches would even try to schedule that game for those reasons and convenience, budget, and local interest reasons, rather than being concerned about scheduling themselves all easy non-region games against more distant opponents. It's not necessary to agree with Rankin in general to agree it's best that TSSAA's assistance here is poorly implemented and creates as many or more problems than it solves. Ironically, McCallie v. Boyd Buchanan is one of the only reasonable matchups the new approach generated, from most viewpoints other than Rankin's team likely losing. So, yes, I think Rankin kind of exposes himself in his arguments even if he's right that it's a bad system. The TSSAA should either drop it or tweak it. They could limit it to just DII-AAA or opponents within 75 miles or, my favorite idea to irritate even more folks, make it DII-AAA against the 12 teams from the previous year's D-I 6A quarterfinalists and 5A seminfinalists.

  36. If the TSSAA wants to get into the business helping D2AAA schools schedule games, a much better solution would be for them to schedule some non region games against other non region D2AAA teams. Problem solved or does that make too much sense?

  38. Didn’t mean any disrespect towards a war vet at all. We were talking about Bledsoe paying for a bus ride and then it was stated that they don’t care about costs of a bus because the state pays for it. Me reading to fast, missed the Fentress County part. I thought the post was saying Bledsoe doesn’t have to pay for busses. By the way, ask anybody who’s had dealings with York Institue, they will tell you they are classless and lack Character which I would say Sgt York would be disappointed at. Good luck against Marion this week.

  40. I think schools should be able to drop until competitive. The bottom groups would be rotational as teams drop and move back up as the be come competitive. I think it would really help some struggling programs.

  41. Say Hey! Willie Mayes Hayes here! This is an honest opinion from a Mav fan. No favoritism or trying to be obnoxious opponent fan. This will be a fun game. Both teams are well coached, have exceptional fans, and can win this game. These schools are very similar in so many ways! Their communities love football! The deciding factors will be which team will have the fewest mistakes (penalties & turnovers) and which team can win with their strength? For Macon Co it’s getting the Borders brothers rolling & playing tough physical football. For AC it’s getting Larue going and/or Hensley slicing and dicing with his arm. I’m not sure AC has seen a run game as good as Macon Co! Maybe Greeneville or West. I’m not sure Macon has seen a team that can throw it like AC and score fast if you commit to stopping Larue! This will be a barn burner and an unreal atmosphere! Just what the semifinals should be. No matter the outcome, both of these schools and communities should be super proud of their teams. They both have had a heckuva year with some really quality wins over good opponents. Best of luck to both teams and prayers for the safety of all players and those traveling .

  42. Last I checked, after CC got moved out of the region with AC, the Price twins tried to keep the games going and the "Mighty Mavs" didn't want to keep it going. Campbell County South has never been anything without someone else's talent. Take this year for example. CC kids are what make them good. They have never been good until they started taking other teams players and covering up hazing incidents. I can't wait until they are busted for the recruiting violations. However, they are in bed with TSSAA so might be difficult. Also, talking about wanting to move out of region, I heard once AC saw Alcoa was in their region, they were trying to get out too.

  44. There isn’t a kid at 120 or 126 in AAA that stays with Mason even if they wouldn’t run from the challenge. Now that doesn’t include single A kids as there is a murderers row there with Jojo, Carson and Ethan. But as far as AAA whichever weight Mason chooses he will win.

  45. The fact that Choke Ridge is in the Semfinals is a testament to how weak 5A ball is, especially in their region and where they were matched up with in the playoffs. Dolly Parton's boys should roll in this week, they win by 10-14 easily.

  47. No-one from east TN is gonna give MC a chance in this. They don’t respect the Upper Cumberland area football. They scoffed at Upperman last year and would be doing the same if it were Upperman again this year. Macon 100% absolutely has a chance with AC, especially with how they’ve been consistently playing. I’m a Bee’s fan through and through, but I hope the Tigers rake them through the coals. That little stadium is gonna be rocking and I plan on being there to support MC.
