  1. Thanks everyone for all the kind words. Been a very bad day to be woken up at 5.30 to hear someone on the other line telling me my wife has passed away. I've known for a couple of weeks things were not looking good. I found her Monday Morning unconscoius and called an ambulance and I was told lastnight things were looking much better but she had a heart attack and passed on this morning around 4 a.m. There were many times over the past three years I couldn't go to the ballgames because I didn't want to leave her alone. I know she is in a better place as to be in the pain she has been in the past few years.

  2. I think your solution of screaming at the refs from the table most definitely is not the solution lol. it’s the same with any sporting competition. There’s bad calls. It’s just gonna happen. The refs are human and they’re just interpreting the action they see. Losing your mind over it isn’t going to change anything though. all that said, my opinion on the call in the 126 final is that it was the correct call.

  3. If you have a problem with reading about other classifications on this board, then skip this post. I don't really care. Happy that Knox County and Stanton Stevens finally got things worked out so he can return to Austin-East. Stanton is a very good football coach, and a terrific human being. I hope he's able to help A-E bring the program back to great success.

  4. Brother, there has been good and bad officiating in wrestling for the entirety of its history and always will be. The result can’t be changed after the fact so it does no good to complain about it after you state your case. It was stated and also turned over to our athletic director. After that, it’s out of the coaches and athletes control. The fact that you’re insinuating that we don’t care about our kids is my problem. Go and see who has lost the most amount of team points for disputing the officiating in matches. No one fights harder for their athletes than us. The call was not going to change, so you have two options: (1) spend your time and energy crying about it; or (2) spend your time and energy making sure the match is not that close next time.

  5. I will say this much. This is actually a great topic and debate. I have had the benefit of getting to have this discussion with several kids over the years. It isn't a simple debate, nor a simple choice. In my opinion, if you really look at it, I think ocean and a few of the others are actually on to a really good point here. I have coached guys who have gone on to wrestle at all levels (some with a level of success and others who did drop out quickly) of collegiate athletics and some on the international / Olympic ladder. i think it is vitally important for most good coaches to be having the types of conversation that ocean and others are bringing up here with athletes. I recall vividly talking with one of our wrestlers about whether he should move to the OTC or continue wrestling in high school after his sophomore year... that was a lot of conversations about goals, stages of life, what do you want short-term and long-term, etc. Thankfully he had plenty of good people to talk to. Anyone speaking in absolutes here is probably off-base or not thinking very logically. To me, the key question has to be... do you want to continue wrestling or do you have a goal (dream, etc.) of wrestling DI and that is the only thing that will fulfill you. If you want to be successful (starting time, placing, AA, etc.) at whatever level you choose to pursue then you better understand what that is going to entail. If you are going to go and wrestle at the DI level and hope to have true success, then you better be ready to understand that wrestling is going to be treated like a very demanding job. You will need to make just about everything else in life subservient to wrestling and what you have to do there... and yes for many this also includes academics. Many of the DI programs they might get into might not be the perfect fit from other aspects of what they want and they may have to sacrifice (especially if not a top-end recruit) to achieve their DI dream. Very few can balance high level academics and the rigors of a top-end DI wrestling program. If that is the absolute desire for the athlete, then go after it and chase it to your fullest... even if they are one of the ones that aren't likely to "make" it or have high level success based on where they currently are... and yes you can sometimes overcome that, but let's be honest blue-chip recruits will pan out far more often than college coaches develop someone to that level who was far below it. If the athlete doesn't have their heart set on DI or just wants to continue wrestling, then they really should be looking at what level of wrestling will help them find a school that is the right fit for them. They need to be looking at academics, academic curriculum options, graduation job placement rates in their desired field, financial aide packages, wrestling team success and culture, activities / lifestyle they want to pursue outside of school (big city or country, etc.), etc. in order to find a place that will help them thrive and mature into the young person that we all hope they become. Plenty of kids know it is DI only for them while many others find what they are looking for (in all aspects) at DII, DII, NAIA, etc. Nothing wrong with that... they are making the choice that is best for them. A coach that is strictly pushing an athlete to "get into the best (wrestling) program they can" to indirectly quote someone else, may not be giving the athlete the best advice... they may actually be hurting them in the long (and short) run. Coaches are here to guide student athletes to a very tumultuous time in life, not simply make them the best athletes possible and put them in the "best" athletic programs.

  6. Well stated sir! That’s because he did want to attack JB. If review was the entire point, there was zero reason to put a coaches response to a bad call on here. And why that one in particular, if not to single him out? I saw a ton of questionable calls and more often than not, failure to make the call. So why just this one, because it’s obviously Bosken.

  7. Everything always works itself out!! Not sure what the lineup will look like since that is up the coach's and who wins the wrestle offs. If one of boys doesn't make it so be it, nothing is given and everything is earned in this sport.

  8. If you don’t know him. How much do you really know about TN wrestling?

  9. I agree with TreyB on this one, the one thing I have seen first hand is the man has gift of teaching and he commands the room like nobody I have ever seen. You can have 30 small kids the age of 7 or younger running around and all he has to do is whistle and the kids just listen. He connects to them in a way that most coach's can not. I def think there are some great coach's who know very high level technique but it's hard for them to teach kids that young. IMO that is what separates him from a lot of other coach's I see do it. Not saying other can't but if you have seen it first hand you know what I am talking about.

  10. I never get on here and don’t respond to anything, but I got on here today to make a post about me trying to set up camps and clinics. I saw this and was disappointed and felt like responding. First off, I've seen many of these posts before about talking about how disappointing it is that we don't have a Tennessee All-American almost every year on some sort of social media. Second, almost all of you haven't been a Division 1 All-American or even wrestled Division 1 at all. It was Cody's first year, and he lost two studs. He'll be back and all American, maybe even a couple times, no doubt in my mind. The next thing is, who cares if kids go to Division 1? If they can afford it, why not go chase your dreams? The only thing I'd say is don't go into a crazy debt to wrestle in college because there are other things that are more important in life, but if you can afford it and a D1 team wants it, go for it. It just annoys me when people act like it's an easy thing or all Tennessee guys are a disappointment each year because they weren't an All American when we are battling through so many injuries and I'm destroying my body and can't even stand up before weigh-ins because the weight cut is so hard on my body. Granted, I shouldn't have wrestled at 125 at all, but I'm just using it as an example. We are giving it everything we have, and I'm sure the other Tennessee guys like Cody and Cooper where to. It's just a hard tournament with countless killers in each weight. We should celebrate any TN guy that gets the opportunity to wrestle Division 1 or any level in college because it's most of our dreams to do that, and we are just trying to chase them

  11. Do think another thing that has not been mentioned is Loretto, Gibson County, Summertown, Huntingdon and Westview all have been in the same bracket until this year. Loretto, Gibson County, Westview and Summertown have 5 Golds and 4 Silvers in the last 5 or so years. Could be that Loretto is a pretty good basketball program the reason they beat Gatlinburg Pittman. Do think all of the programs I mentioned aren't going anywhere any time in the next couple of years either. York, McMinn Central and Gatlinburg Pittman are great programs too. Do think all of the programs I have mentioned can beat each other on a given day. I watched the Loretto Game live and thoroughly the same night after and Gatlinburg got outplayed especially in the second half. Weathers was attacking the rim big time. She put on a show.

  12. Congratulations to all of these Tennessee high school Alumni for having a great college season and for competing at nationals. NAIA Anthony Pyron - Cumberland TN - (National Qualifier) Sammy Shires - Cumberland TN - (All American) Eli Clemmons - Cumberland TN - (National Qualifier) Thomas Williams - Saint Thomas FL - (National Qualifier) Tre Morrisette - Life GA - (National Qualifier) D3 Dejon Glaster - Millikin IL - (All American) NCWA Dominic Love - Florida A&M - (All American) If there are any more wrestlers that I missed please share that on here. I've seen that NJCAA had a qualifier from TN but I couldn't find that individual, and I didn't see any qualifiers at division II. Besides that congratulations to these wrestlers for a great season.

  13. Never said it was…? Death eventually comes to everyone. There is no age requirement for death, and it comes in every form. You just have to keep on living. Eventually, when it's your time, you’ll be able to go meet the people you love and have missed so much.

  15. Haven’t got a big guy… What’s going to happen when they play a team from the west…. PG too small…. Live or Die by 3…. They keep showing up! They keep making huge shots! They play TEAM basketball especially on D! If you haven’t figured it out yet this team is the real deal! Let’s get ONE more!

  19. I will say this. Everyone said going in that the quality of basketball in AA was great and yesterday didn’t disappoint. Outside of Bradley central the next 3-4 best teams are in AA.

    3 points
  22. No that wouldn't help because who wants to play the Gibson County Region or the Upper Cumberland Region every year?? You think that would be fair?? TSSAA is doing a blind draw like they have been. No way they plug in these matchups. Just unlucky if you're not happy.
    3 points
  23. 1) Not watching a podcast with a guy who does fake backyard wrestling as a grown man.....Desselle is only knowledgeable person on it. 2) The match was NEVER recorded on flo. The stream went down. You are a liar, and it's embarrassing.
    3 points
  24. I truly don’t think TSSAA purposely screws teams with the bracket. There is no benefit to TSSAA to putting the best teams on one side of the bracket. They don’t make more money by doing that. I don’t think they’ll ever go back to live draw with coaches in attendance. It was tough on coaches from far east TN and far west TN to drive up for the draw then go home just to drive back a couple days later. However, there is no reason for TSSAA not to livestream the draw to avoid any appearance of dishonesty
    3 points
  25. Please join TSSAA. You too can make a difference.

  26. The bottom half of AA is well… let’s just say an easy route for the only decent team GP. Once again.. the “blind” draw is a scam.

  27. Yes he does and wins 99% percent of all challenges. No better coach in your corner than that man, he will go to bat for any kid! As a parent and somebody who played sports as well, bad calls are part of the sport but we as parents can't sit around and blame the officials all the time. It's our job to use these as teaching moments and I believe Josh did it right by showing everyone the next day how we should respond. You get back up and go to work!! No need to sit around and complain because nobody has time for it.
    3 points
  28. You clearly no nothing about the sport of wrestling or TSSAA. There is no procedure for overturning the call, there is no protest, there is no video review. Josh went to the head table and fought for his kid. So yeah, “it is was what it is.” It is certainly not “all about winning” for Josh or Joey. They treat all these kids like their own and are deeply invested in their lives. Josh is a fantastic man and father. People like you sit in the stands and have ZERO understanding of the nature of what we do and what coaches put into these kids. That same man you are criticizing from your golden throne had his kid up early the day after state and training to start doing something about not leaving it in the officials hands next year. Those moments Zac experienced are part of the journey and we view them as opportunities to get tougher. It’s ironic that you are criticizing other people’s comprehension and seem to have none. Here is some free advice, next time you want to publicly criticize how a man parents his son, think twice so you don’t sound like an idiot.

  29. His son just lost state on a questionable call. I’d say he didn’t feel like shooting the breeze. I saw him at practice the following Tuesday and still wanted to give him space and not speak about it. Bosken is a no excuse type of guy, so “it is what it is” makes perfect sense to me.
    3 points
  30. Apparently there are kids all the way back to 3rd grade waiting to take his place. They won’t even notice he’s gone.

  31. But as Bradly has recently shown us, if you sit on what you got & not focus on your youth, eventually the cupboard will run dry. Culture from top to bottom. How many high school state champs & placers are at AAU state the following weekend coaching the youth program? Cleveland does every year.
    3 points
  32. It won’t, not for minimal a decade. The culture I see so many on here bashing is more than Bosken. Coach has this thing built to last! What you’d see is Cleveland keep rolling & another rise up somewhere. But I for one hope that day never comes. Hope he’s old and grey bringing his grand kids to JWC showing them what he & Knox built!

  33. What’s actually really funny is that Maryville fans have been denying the fact that they recruit for years. youth programs, middle schools, and even high school sometimes. But now it’s funny to see them hide in the shadows and come up with every excuse possible. That’s the funny part. As someone who had kids who played football zoned for William Blunt, and playing youth football, taking my kids to football games, I’ve seen what Maryville does with every single player from that team and parents. This team the other team etc, and what? Nobody talks about it, or perhaps it’s just common to have coaches on a high school football team come up to you and talk to you about your six-year-old child “having a better future.” Now let me make this very clear. I don't have a problem with kids transferring. I think if the parents allow it and the player wants to do it, go ahead, but the fact that the fans on this website try to act like their high school is just so needy and clean. And he never recruits when that gets blown up; they just hide in the shadows to try to come up with any excuse; we’re just laughing it off as just a simple move. That’s the funny part.

  34. Same thing. Basically a team put together and in their third year of existence but first in high school they make substate. And then 2 straight state tournaments. Just out of nowhere here they are.
    2 points
  35. Making the basketball state tournament (final 8) in a four class system is the same as making the football playoffs (final 32) in a 6 class system? Strongly disagree with that statement. In football, well over 50% of teams in each class make the state playoffs. In basketball, less than 10% of teams in each class. make it to what is considered the state tournament.

  36. The York coach schedules a very difficult non-district slate of teams for his squad also. That helps prepare them for games like the one today -a very tight game against a quality opponent. Today wasn't the first time they encountered a situation where they needed to battle back from a sizable deficit in a loud, pressure-packed environment. Good Luck to the Dragonettes the rest of the way !

  37. There's a very reasonable explanation for the decrease starting in 2020 and it really has nothing to do with leadership. I don't think here is the place to explain the numbers. Rest assured. I do know.

  38. Soo… how many transfers played for Alcoa this year? lol that’s a wonderful story, but you avoided the overall point. Being one of the biggest 3A schools while at the same time having SEVERAL transfers each year has just as much to do with the success as the summer workouts that apparently Alcoa invented according to you. hawkdad approves.

  39. Dodgen seems like a good coach. In the games I have watched it seems like the girls relate to him well. Sometimes the best teams do not make it to the state. Not always the coaches fault.

  40. I was certain as the Jrs took the mat, things would change and as the MS takes the mat tomorrow, it will expand. An exceptional group of kids. I was just recognizing Blackman as no o e gave them any love in earlier posts. Workman and the Blackman group have built something solid. Yes their numbers are big but that’s awesome and speaks volumes for their support and what they are doing to help make TN better. Good luck to Trey and the really great group of JRs y’all have!!!

  41. Idk I think history wise GC and WV are right there together..both got 3 gold balls Westview has 2 silver Gibson county has one. WV has 18 state tournament appearances Gibson county as of now has 17. As a Westview alumni and fan I admit Gibson county is right up there with us in terms of history and tradition in girls basketball.

  44. Agree 100%!!! Not sure how long the reign will last but last season was the year to beat them. I've said this numerous times on here and in person to many of my fellow wrestling friends, parents and coaches. Some listen but many refuse to believe the facts and writing on the wall. A private school may beat them but it will be SEVERAL years before any public school in TN can match what they already have and what is coming up in the pipeline. The thing that separates the Cleveland room is their Cleveland coaching staff. They have AT LEAST 5 coaches (and this is just the guys that I know or know of) that are in the room every day and who are all better than 90-95% of the public school coaches in the state. There very well could be a couple more that I dont know of too! If a public school team has just 1 very knowledgeable coach in the room every day, the kids in the room benefit greatly. When you have a handful (or more) of experienced and knowledgeable coaches who help kids be the best version of themselves paired with kids willing to work hard and exceptional parental/community support, you get what they have going right now!

  45. So because he coached wrestling and has been on Coach T for life means if he says it, then it must be true? Well I coach wrestling, specifically the kids he is talking about, I have traveled all over the country and seen the other Fab 50 teams and feel pretty good that we could beat at least one or two of them in a dual. The guy who does the Fab 50 is pretty knowledgeable about High School Wrestling in this country and he seems to think we deserve to be recognized in the rankings as well. But let me defer to @cbg since you have told me no one knows more about wrestling and the Fab 50 teams. He has such an expansive knowledge of all of those teams and their rosters that he knows we would not beat a single one of the them in a dual, so thank you for clearing that up.

  46. Good game by Westview. Girls fought hard and y'all took it to us first half. Y'all were really pumped up. Big time atmosphere from both fan bases. Proud of our girls for grinding it out. Two great programs. Good luck to y'all going forward. Maybe one of us will win it.

  47. Trey I have been trying to tell everyone this all season but they did not want to believe me. Cleveland Raiders have a national type team. Cleveland Raiders could travel around the US and beat a whole lot of high school wrestling teams. I guarantee it. I know you do not want to bet me because you like Cleveland Raiders already. I am Captain Guru and I approve this message.

  48. Cleveland Raiders have the best wrestlers in the state overall. Cleveland Raiders have kids come from all around because they are good wrestlers and they want to win. Cleveland Raiders might be one of the best all time wrestling teams. Cleveland Raiders were just to good for everyone else this season. I am Captain Guru and I approve this message.
