  1. Thanks everyone for all the kind words. Been a very bad day to be woken up at 5.30 to hear someone on the other line telling me my wife has passed away. I've known for a couple of weeks things were not looking good. I found her Monday Morning unconscoius and called an ambulance and I was told lastnight things were looking much better but she had a heart attack and passed on this morning around 4 a.m. There were many times over the past three years I couldn't go to the ballgames because I didn't want to leave her alone. I know she is in a better place as to be in the pain she has been in the past few years.

  2. I normally only look at this message board for entertainment purposes only, and normally it is very entertaining! What is not entertaining is you throwing my Son’s name into a situation that he has nothing to do with. Hunter is not even a boarding student, and has no involvement in anything like this. He has done nothing but represent TN with pride at every possible event imaginable. I would suggest you leave his and my family’s name out of your mouth, when you decide to discuss tabloid gossip especially when you have no idea what you are talking about! I am not hiding behind any screen names, and if you would like to discuss it further you can contact me directly. I am very proud of what he has accomplished, and his commitment recently to further his career at Indiana University. As a father I would expect grown men to show more discretion when discussing a terrible incident like this, and not throw around accusations against kids that have nothing to do with the situation. You should be ashamed of the disregard you have shown to kids that have nothing to do with this. Sullying a kids reputation for your entertainment is disgusting.

  3. As hard as it was to witness everything that happened after the game Friday night, I take comfort in knowing that Upperman’s biggest fan went from witnessing the greatest win in school history to witnessing the face of his savior. There is never a good time to lose someone we love but for Mr butler, what a wonderful thing to witness as the last image he ever saw. From one of his greatest nights to his greatest eternal reward. I could care less about all this other junk you all are taking about. In the game of life, none of it matters. Go win the gold ball for him Bees!

  4. Here is the problem I see and this is not a shot at Sweetwater but goes for any program. You hire a coach to lead your program so let him lead your program. (I don't care who the man plays or if someone else that the admin or fans think is better) If he runs it into the ground in one year then fire his tail but don't suspend a coach in the middle of a season because he wasn't playing the Admin or Fans favorite of who they think should be the QB. You are going to have no head coach wanting to coach at a program that has done what Sweetwater has just done. Administration is for hiring and not Coaching, Fans are for enjoyment of the game and cheering on the team not coaching. The head football coach is who gets to decide who starts and who doesn't, it's as simple as that.

  5. Kicked out 22 this morning. They come in from Europe and Asia overnight when I am sleeping. Most are from India, others are using VPNs which change every time they use them. Several from Moscow this morning. Can't block them very easily. Had 130 emails from the same group, using my "Contact CoachT" link. Most of them are working for companies. They don't tend to come in on the weekends when they are off. There is an authentication process but these don't seem to be bots, They appear to be individuals so they can answer the authentication questions as long as they have valid email addresses. They also appear to use AI to write posts. Pay subscriptions might stop it but then there might not be anyone here but me and a few others. We'll come up with an answer. Just bear with us. In the meantime, report those posts but don't click on the links.

  6. God is Great ALL THE TIME. Prayers have been answered. Michael is no longer critical and will possibly be released from the hospital this weekend. We rejoice in the continued time we are blessed with him. Please continue to pray for him as we await word from the Cleveland Clinic on the 3 major transplants he needs. His condition changes rapidly so we approach all things cautiously..

  7. Maryville has won 17 championships under the playoff system. Only Alcoa has won more but head to head Maryville owns a 66-25 lead in the series. That means Alcoa would have to win 42 straight to overtake Maryville in the series. I would be over 100 years old if that happened. What cracks me up is a guy from Cheatham County jumps on the Alcoa bandwagon. I guess since Cheatham County hasn't never won anything you need to find someone else to root for. You have no affiliation to Alcoa but you are their biggest cheerleader. It reminds me of all these Tennessee born and bred people jumping on the Alabama bandwagon.

  8. I will say this I wasn’t there for the situation this last weekend but it has been building up for 4 years. 1. It’s not the first time he has talked about my kid in a negative manner. We have heard about it from other coaches, kids and even from his wrestlers. I have a huge network of people that I keep in touch with, he must not know. 2. I don’t concern myself with people like him so I brush it off and focus on the people that have my son’s best interest at hand. Mom on the other has had enough of it and it finally came out. 3. Landon did snap back at him when he overheard and that issue has been addressed. 4. I will be the first to admit my son is an a**hole on that mat and carries a chip with because of coaches like him. We don’t wrestle for Williamson county championships we wrestle like we are going D1 and that won’t change. But if you actually know my kid you know he’s far from it.

  10. To quote the great American poet Dave Chappelle, “or, you COULD shut the @&$! up .” I don’t care if they recruit or not. I don’t care if Mr Jones funds the toilet paper yall wipe your arse with. I just find you in particular very tiring. You. Not Cleveland. Not Bosken. Not Knox. Not the 10 year contract or the home/home that didn’t happen, just you. As a matter of fact, after reading your posts for the last week, whatever Jones is or is not giving surely isn’t enough to deal with petulant people like you all of the time. Cleveland probably deserves more. You know what you’re like? You’re like the drunk at the bar that floats around telling people the same joke over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over again, then wants to fight everyone when no one finds it funny. oh wait…I think I’m supposed to type “hahahahaha” or “lol” after everything, aren’t I? That’s how your mentally deficient language works, right? Lol hahahahaha lol Do some math so your brain will overload and you’ll be quiet for a while. Let me help by giving you a problem; 2+2 Everyone let’s be quiet so he can concentrate. He’ll be back to wipe poo all over the walls again shortly. I have no problem with any of the points you’ve made. I have no issue with whether Cleveland recruits. Is funded. Isn’t funded. Doesn’t recruit. Partially recruits. Thinks about recruiting. None of it. Y’all do you. Y’all are the premier program in the state, and you’re doing something right, otherwise the program wouldn’t catch such heck in a message board full of anonymous posts. But YOU are obnoxious. Your son is a TREMENDOUS wrestler. But YOU, holy sht, I think everyone understands what it’s like to have bamboo shards shoved underneath their fingernails at this point. I feel for your wife or girlfriend. If you’re divorced, I understand why your ex wife left. I wonder how you actually reproduced, to be honest. Like, somewhere you found a woman that would lay with you and squat out kids. That’s amazing. Absolutely astonishing. Baffling, really. I give you credit there. With everything you have going against you, personality wise, the fact that you pulled that off is quite an achievement. So kudos to you, I suppose.

  16. In all honestly you may be right. But to have the two best teams wrestle first is crazy. Summit and Cleveland has become kind of a rivalry not to have that highlighted in finals is sad. TSSAA is just too lazy to seed out 8 teams. I think that is the major issue.

  17. Death runs in all of our families. None of us are getting out of here alive. There’s only one way to heaven and it’s through our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. 19. the fact that you came on here to share this opinion only cements for me that you are a part of the problem and that the admin of the school have fostered a toxic environment. The AD's quotes reaffirm that. Good luck finding a coach worth his salt.

  20. If True, I don't blame Slover one bit! You hired him to lead your program so let him lead your program. The admin needs to keep their mouth shut when it comes to who should start and who shouldn't

  21. You are whats wrong with this country! Please show me were @Cavaliers9814 said anything about race? Using the word Discipline after losing a coach like Smith and saying "I just wonder how in line and disciplined Puckett can keep them" has nothing to do about a player being black, white, yellow, purple, blue, red, etc. I know a bunch of mostly white teams i could say the same thing about if they lost a good coach like Smith, does that make me racist towards a mostly white team? Keep trying to Race Bait but you were the only person to bring up color not @Cavaliers9814

  22. your posts are so Embarrassing. kids moving schools because they want to go to a different school are not the same situation as coaches tapping up players in middle school and continuing the relationship to recruit them in HS. and then you've come on this thread and implied that reputable coaches are doing the same thing that those fellas you consistently carry water for are doing.

  23. I never get on here and don’t respond to anything, but I got on here today to make a post about me trying to set up camps and clinics. I saw this and was disappointed and felt like responding. First off, I've seen many of these posts before about talking about how disappointing it is that we don't have a Tennessee All-American almost every year on some sort of social media. Second, almost all of you haven't been a Division 1 All-American or even wrestled Division 1 at all. It was Cody's first year, and he lost two studs. He'll be back and all American, maybe even a couple times, no doubt in my mind. The next thing is, who cares if kids go to Division 1? If they can afford it, why not go chase your dreams? The only thing I'd say is don't go into a crazy debt to wrestle in college because there are other things that are more important in life, but if you can afford it and a D1 team wants it, go for it. It just annoys me when people act like it's an easy thing or all Tennessee guys are a disappointment each year because they weren't an All American when we are battling through so many injuries and I'm destroying my body and can't even stand up before weigh-ins because the weight cut is so hard on my body. Granted, I shouldn't have wrestled at 125 at all, but I'm just using it as an example. We are giving it everything we have, and I'm sure the other Tennessee guys like Cody and Cooper where to. It's just a hard tournament with countless killers in each weight. We should celebrate any TN guy that gets the opportunity to wrestle Division 1 or any level in college because it's most of our dreams to do that, and we are just trying to chase them

  24. I will say this much. This is actually a great topic and debate. I have had the benefit of getting to have this discussion with several kids over the years. It isn't a simple debate, nor a simple choice. In my opinion, if you really look at it, I think ocean and a few of the others are actually on to a really good point here. I have coached guys who have gone on to wrestle at all levels (some with a level of success and others who did drop out quickly) of collegiate athletics and some on the international / Olympic ladder. i think it is vitally important for most good coaches to be having the types of conversation that ocean and others are bringing up here with athletes. I recall vividly talking with one of our wrestlers about whether he should move to the OTC or continue wrestling in high school after his sophomore year... that was a lot of conversations about goals, stages of life, what do you want short-term and long-term, etc. Thankfully he had plenty of good people to talk to. Anyone speaking in absolutes here is probably off-base or not thinking very logically. To me, the key question has to be... do you want to continue wrestling or do you have a goal (dream, etc.) of wrestling DI and that is the only thing that will fulfill you. If you want to be successful (starting time, placing, AA, etc.) at whatever level you choose to pursue then you better understand what that is going to entail. If you are going to go and wrestle at the DI level and hope to have true success, then you better be ready to understand that wrestling is going to be treated like a very demanding job. You will need to make just about everything else in life subservient to wrestling and what you have to do there... and yes for many this also includes academics. Many of the DI programs they might get into might not be the perfect fit from other aspects of what they want and they may have to sacrifice (especially if not a top-end recruit) to achieve their DI dream. Very few can balance high level academics and the rigors of a top-end DI wrestling program. If that is the absolute desire for the athlete, then go after it and chase it to your fullest... even if they are one of the ones that aren't likely to "make" it or have high level success based on where they currently are... and yes you can sometimes overcome that, but let's be honest blue-chip recruits will pan out far more often than college coaches develop someone to that level who was far below it. If the athlete doesn't have their heart set on DI or just wants to continue wrestling, then they really should be looking at what level of wrestling will help them find a school that is the right fit for them. They need to be looking at academics, academic curriculum options, graduation job placement rates in their desired field, financial aide packages, wrestling team success and culture, activities / lifestyle they want to pursue outside of school (big city or country, etc.), etc. in order to find a place that will help them thrive and mature into the young person that we all hope they become. Plenty of kids know it is DI only for them while many others find what they are looking for (in all aspects) at DII, DII, NAIA, etc. Nothing wrong with that... they are making the choice that is best for them. A coach that is strictly pushing an athlete to "get into the best (wrestling) program they can" to indirectly quote someone else, may not be giving the athlete the best advice... they may actually be hurting them in the long (and short) run. Coaches are here to guide student athletes to a very tumultuous time in life, not simply make them the best athletes possible and put them in the "best" athletic programs.

  25. I think your solution of screaming at the refs from the table most definitely is not the solution lol. it’s the same with any sporting competition. There’s bad calls. It’s just gonna happen. The refs are human and they’re just interpreting the action they see. Losing your mind over it isn’t going to change anything though. all that said, my opinion on the call in the 126 final is that it was the correct call.

  28. Long time lurker, first time poster… Only posting because my family name was brought up. We were between clubs and looking for a place to wrestle, I had someone reach out to Bosken to see if we could join HCWC, as there were 4-5 kids at the club around my son’s weight that he battled with every single year at the state tournament. Bosken reached out to those parents to make sure they were ok with adding an outsider and former competitor to the room and they welcomed us with open arms. Cleveland is good because there’s a support system of coaches, families, and wrestlers that love being Blue Bloods, a community that loves wrestling and supports the program, coaches with integrity that love and invest in these kids. Cleveland is good because a foundation was laid for success to continue to create more success. So we were not recruited, we were looking for a home and asked to be apart of their program.

  29. There’s too much to unpack here. I would not discourage or recommend a division for any kid. Dream big, relentlessly chase your dreams, and you will grow and learn life along the way. If your dream is to wrestle D1, don’t settle for something different. If your goal is to start your freshman year, find a way to make it happen at whatever division. One thing I know about the best wrestlers in this state past, present, and future is that they aren’t quitters and they don’t settle. They never stop working. Also, Rob Atwood has spent several years wrestling all over the country and I believe has AA at Virginia Beach Nationals. Lastly, my son is wrestling against Duke tomorrow, first dual start as a true freshman, bumping up a weight class to fill in at heavyweight. For a small school kid who lost almost every match when he started in this sport from a traditional non-powerhouse wrestling state to have an opportunity to wrestle at the highest level of competition in folkstyle wrestling, I would call that success already. But I will tell you, for my son, he wasn’t recruited for being a top 20 nationally ranked kid, he was recruited for his work ethic, discipline, and passion to improve - which translates into what he can be when he is surrounded with with top notch talent and coaching. #moreworktodo

  30. True, but not all that matters. I'm not big on moral victories, but Upperman proved today that they're right there with anyone in the classification...didn't quite go their way today, but I personally don't want to read another negative thing about the program. They play the right way, lost the right way, and I'm sure if they had won they would have shown the same class as winners. The ball that will go in the trophy case at UHS is a lighter tone than they wanted, but they gained just as much respect today as they would have with a W. Congratulations to UHS and their fans for showing everyone your true colors...I am now a fan.

  34. Maybe if you all should’ve addressed an issue with a coach at the end of the season too, genius. That boy threw double digit interceptions in what, 4 games? losing to terrible teams. Polk County???? Chatt Central???? Tyner??? Loudon isn’t anything special. You and your terrible community did all of that so a JV kid could play QB all the while ruining a season for kids. You all should be ashamed. The season will end early for you guys all by choice. Slover’s son was way better than #10. Ain’t nothing sweet about that water haha

  35. I believe that was Blueprint's point. Teams are beatable. Whether they are 1A or 2A. Again, there are several in each class (1A/2A) that have a shot. I don't think there is a "glaring" favorite in either class.

  36. Malcolm Pendergrass Jr. passed away September 15. A native of Huntingdon, Coach Pendergrass had coaching stints at Towers HS in Atlanta, Harriman, and Huntingdon before ultimately joining a young program called West Carroll. Even though WC had a team for 6 years prior to Coach Pendergrass arrival WC had never won a game, had a field, or fieldhouse. Coach got to work on all that and brought us our first fieldhouse, football field, and win. Words can't describe how important this man was to our community not only in athletics but as our senior English teacher for many years. He was also our Athletic director when he retired. Rest in Peace Coach you were a good one!

For me though, I don’t care if their group is better or not. Let’s just make sure they wrestle each other and enjoy it while it lasts. That level of competition is what raises the bar for TN wrestling.

  43. So, last night was a night of pleasant surprises... We played Greeneville in the season finale last night. The injured Hannah Frye started the game for us. I was sitting there kind of perplexed wondering what was going on. Greeneville wins the opening tip and goes down and scores uncontested. We hand the ball back to the Greeneville player on the inbounds who scores again. 4-0 Greeneville. We inbound the ball to Hannah who walks down and scores. Greeneville hands the ball to her again and she scores again. 4-4. Game is stopped for recognition as Hannah reached 1,000 for her career. I had no clue when she suffered the season ending injury against Wise Central, she was that close to 1K. Classy move by Greeneville and the game officials for allowing this to happen last night. As for the game itself, we won 66-61. As the boys game is set to begin, Caroline Hill and Hannah brought me and my wife a Thank you Card and a $25 gift card signed by our eight seniors just for being supporters and for not missing a game over their tenure. I don't have a daughter on the team. We're just fans. It brought tears to our eyes that they thought of us like that. What an amazing group of young ladies. Hoping Saturday is the beginning of a long and successful post season run for these girls. Not going to lie, getting to the glass house will be a tall task with Bearden and Farragut in that same sectional. And even Sevier County being in the same region. But these girls proved a lot of folks wrong that they wouldn't win the conference after Hannah's injury.

There are great wrestlers with great talent all over the state. What makes Cleveland so successful is that Joey and Josh find all those kids who are not great and not naturally talented, and make them great because they are the best coaches around. Period.

Hard to believe there are “front runners” yet considering it just opened up and No interviews have been conducted. Secondly, any idiot who thinks this isn’t a “wanted” job either doesn’t know much about HS football in Knoxville or is just in denial.
