  1. This is exactly what I thought when I 1st saw this topic; I believe it would be a great game either way this year but this years Smyrna team may have too much over-all team speed for them.....
  2. This is pretty close to how I would rank it but I would be up in the air about Maryville and Smyrna, either 1 could win b/t those 2..... As for SP, no disrespect what-so-ever, they are a great team, I just dont believe that there speed would be as effective against the final 2 in the other title games. I do however believe that they could potentially be a final 4 team in both 2A and 3A.....
  3. I will have to respectfully disagree w/ you here b/c I believe both Alcoa and Fulton has more or equal speed than SP and DL and GPs lines would be much harder to have success against than what SP had faced. Its like I said, not to put SP down at all but I watched everyone of those games Friday and Sat. and could clearly see a difference from class to class. Now having said that, I believe SP could be a final 4 team in both 2A and 3A..... Now I know that unapproved website.com is not always accurate but here are their projectins just for the fun of it Alcoa (TN) 38, South Pittsburg (TN) 27 South Pittsburg (TN) 35, Goodpasture Christian (Madison, TN) 31 Lipscomb (Nashville, TN) 28, South Pittsburg (TN) 27 Fulton (Knoxville, TN) 31, South Pittsburg (TN) 21 Smyrna (TN) 40, South Pittsburg (TN) 21 Maryville (TN) 38, South Pittsburg (TN) 20 What the heck Maryville (TN) 27, Smyrna (TN) 24 I dont agree w/ all of these but it is fun to mess around w/ none the less.....
  4. They could play w/ Maryville and possibly score a couple times and 3 at the very most but would not stop Maryville from scoring. Maryville would win by atleats 2-3 TDs but I would guess by 4 or more, this is not taking a shot at SP either, Maryville is just good..... As far as Smyrna goes I think you could be right b/c they clearly have better athletes than Maryville and are very versitile on offense. I believe Smyrna would have a really great chance to win but it would be a very competitive game either way.....
  5. SP was clearly the best 1A state in TN and there are more than likely teams from every class 1-5 that they could beat. Having said that, Alcoa would match their speed and run them off the field. Even Goodpasture and DL would be too much for them; they would put some points on the board but both GP and DL would clearly win. This is not a shot at SP at all, they are 1 of the best 1A teams I have seen, the only better 1A champ that comes to mind would be the TC team from a couple of years ago.....
  6. I agree w/ what you say about the single-wing and the wing-T but the key is you have to have the personel to run those schemes. Some teams do only have 1 legit back and they should run single-wing or pro-I while some teams like SP has 3-5 guys w/ speed that can all carry the ball effectively and a wing-T offense is ideal..... Also, and I am not 100% sure but it seems like I remember Deon Sanders and Bo Jackson both runing like 4.19 - 4.18 range. I am not sure but that really sounds accurate to me, anybody else remember hearing those times or am I just dreaming?
  7. I admit that I am a hater and was a little speculative about all the recruiting talk but after watching that game Sat. evening I will say that they do not recruit. Like I stated earlier, outside of Douglas and Burnette they really didnt have any great athletes/players that were that great IMHO. Lets start w/ that undersized offensive line, they pushed around a bigger, faster, and more athletic MW defensive line and they blocked their butts off. The 2 RBs were not that impressive to me, but to their credit especially the Shuler kid, they ran/played as hard as they possibly could have. I believe either 1 of those guys would be less than average behind a lesser offensive line. The WR were not great athletes either but they ran text-book routes and caught the ball really well. The whole defense just played mistake-free and each guy played their positions text-book but most importantly they played like a very cohesive unit. The bottom line is coaching, they were all technically sound b/c to be honest, if you knew nothing about MHS or MW and compared their personel MW would be favored to win.....
  8. Not bad picks, but I would bet even though WHH is losing alot, they will reload and finish in the top 3.....
  9. I saw they had Marco listed as a WR, now I know that it really doesnt matter and I am sure he would get some touches from the RB position.....
  10. As long as a team is using players who already are living in their community and not just move there and/or are asked to come there and get a scholarship then I could care less if they dominate for 10 strait years. When a team is able to bring talent in, regardless of how or what you call it, it is recruiting and unless all of the teams can do it, it gives the teams that can an unfair advantage. BA did this for years and they had great teams but, like it or not, they had an unfair advantage over their competition. Take Maryville for example, they do not recruit, after watching them play the other night I can promise you that. Like many posters who support that team have stated many times, if they recruit then their recruiters need to be fired b/c they have an undersized line, 150-160 pound RBs, and only a couple of athletes that really stand out at all. They were however technically sound and very well coached.
  11. Outside of Douglas and Burnette I was not really very impressed w/ any of their players as far as ability is concerned. With that said, they were all technically sound and obviously very well coached, they will be just fine next year IMHO.....
  12. Match-ups are everything in HS-football and just b/c a team may match-up better w/ Alcoa than Goodpasture does, does not nessicarily mean that they match-up good w/ GP.....
  13. What?????? A double pass is an extra attempt to catch a team off guard or to capitilize off of their over-pursuit if that makes you feel better..... /rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />
  14. I never stated that the Fulton coaching staff did not do a good job this season; in fact, they had a great season considering all of the reasons you stated. I do feel that for this particular game they were out-coached, that doesnt mean their staff is not as good as DL's, just that they were better this game.....
  15. To me "not showing class" is making excuses as to why you lost instead of giving the other team their due credit. Most of the time when teams have turn-overs or are not playing very well it is b/c the team you are playing is making you look worse than normal. Also, I never once said that Fulton didnt have any class, just that DL was very classy in their win.....
  16. I agree, he was an exceptional back and w/o a doubt the reason they stayed w/i striking distance until late in the 4th quarter.....
  17. I dont think you are referring to me about the "trick play" thing b/c I have no problem w/ a trick play being run and I agree w/ everything you stated. When it comes to these kinds of plays timing is everything, and they work best against teams who have great over-all team speed on defense and at the same time are very agressive. That pretty much describes Maplewood to the T, Coach Q called that play at the exact precise time and it payed off for him. I also felt that 2 scores would be too much of a hill to climb considering MW's offensive scheme and sure enough it was.....
  18. The deal is that they showed alot of class; nobody said that Fulton did not show any class. There is nothing wrong w/ complimenting a teams class, and also you can take that "gift wrap" excuse crap and shove it. Finally, like it or not DL's coaching staff did out coach Fulton's coaching staff on this particular day. That is not saying they are better coaches, but today they did a better job.....
  19. Exactly, they did have the personel to run the ball w/ success but when they fell behind by 2 scores they didnt have the luxury to grind it out. However, I was pretty impressed with their QB Simpson; he was on the money w/ his passes most of the nite and made good decisions for the most part.....
  20. That is more like it, I felt it was a good game and Maplewood did prove that they could play w/ the Rebels. I feel that the game was closer than the stats might indicate as well, and you are right those 3 TD passes were way to easy b/c no one was anywhere around them, but outside of those 3 plays I think Maplewood played really well considering who they were playing.....
  21. That is really not a significant point, it doesnt matter if it was a trick play or not and saying it is, is not taking a shot at Maryville. Finally, a lateral pass to a WR to the outside w/ a pass back across the field to a RB IS a trick play regardless how many times you run it or if you do consider it part of a package. Anytime you run that play your intention is to catch a team off guard and hope for an easy score, which, anybody correct me if I am wrong, constitutes a trick play.....
  22. Fulton, although not as clearly as usual still had the better athletes. I have never been a big fan of the private schools but I will give credit where credit is due. DL displayed a wonderful showing when it comes to playing their butts off and winning w/ class. I have watched these guys the last few years and win or lose they have always shown respect and great sportsmanship towards their opponents w/o taunting and helping them up after the play. My hat is off to Coach Mcadams(spelling?) and his staff as they have done an outstanding job w/ those young men. That was one hard-hitting game. For the record I could not care less about the whole east, middle, and west bs, if my team is not in it, it really doesnt matter to me. However all of the posters from the east like to run everyones nose in it whether they have a team still in it or not. For this reason I am glad DL won, not b/c they are middle but b/c they are not an east team. Congrats once again DL, that was a well earned title.....
  23. All do respect man, but it was anything but dominating, and it didnt look easy to me. Take away that last TD off a trick play and Maplewoods last drive is going for the tie, not saying they didnt clearly won, but it was a decent game and not easy or dominating like you are making it out to be.....
