Have you see a lot of AAU Basketball? The better teams (with the better PLAYERS) handle the shot clock fairly well. But do you really want the majority of HS players (that obviously do not know what a good shot is vs a bad shot) wanting to be even more rushed into shooting the ball when they have not worked for the best shot available? I may be in a small minority but that would not be good for the game. Someday it may happen and when that day comes, I will adjust along with every other HS coach. Until that day comes, I will continue to teach the game and discipline players to attempt to work for the great shot from the better players and not be subject to having the first person that THINKS they should shoot the ball chucking it up from 24 ft.

Compare the numbers for yourself!!! I did some research about 3 years ago. Call the NHSF and get the numbers for all the participants in HS basketball and then call the NCAA, NAIA, NJCAA, etc and get the numbers for all the participants in the college game (not on scholarship but all of those who are just on a team). The numbers are amazing. Only about 1-2% of all HS basketball players will have a chance to be on a team at the next level and the numbers on scholarship are even smaller!!!

Ruppsrunt... What did you mean by that comment. I hope it was meant in a good way because his father is one of the best coaches in the game. I have not seen Jerry's teams play but I have seen Jerry work at the game and instruct at the one on one level. He is a master of the little things. I cannot speak concerning how he handles parents but give a parent a dollar and they think they have the power (and maybe at a private school like MBA that is the case). Jerry Meyer will land on his feet. My sympathy goes to all the young players that will someday be at MBA and will not be coached by Jerry Meyer!!!

Any fan of good basketball would argue against a HS shot clock. If you watch enough games, it is obvious that the average HS team has no business rushing shots or creating shots with limited time. The shot clock would lead to the demise of fundamental basketball at the HS level. Who allowed the score to be so low... the offense or the defense. If the coach knew his team was out-matched... I would cosider holding the ball great stratagy because he gave his kids a chance to win!!!

The question was... Why does the home team (I suppose you mean Alcoa) play the first game. Well technically, Alcoa is not the "home" team. They are the host team. The middle games of the day are being played by the number 1 seeds. This allows them to get home early and REST.

The student section during the OZ / Kingston game was awesome. Students from LC, Loudon and some from AC standing side by side with the OS student... it was loud and energizing. I wish the atmosphere could be like that every night. There is no place like the land of OZ.

For all of you that questioned OZ a the location of the 4AA district tournament site... what do you think now? It is a great environment. The gym is jumping every night and the $$$ from ticket sales is flowing like the rain swollen stream. I hope you continue to enjoy the experience. Good luck to all those participating.

Are you kidding...... Lauderdale a great coach AND person. Are we talking about the same man? Of course we are!!! You are right on about him. i have never met anybody with the enthusiasm energy that he has. If you have never met the guy you are missing out. He is under-appreciated by the hometown folk!!! Be careful... you might lose him someday. Hey Lauderdale... save a mouse!!!

I agree with belle. I think one or two more might be necessary to round out the list. Randy Moore at Seymour, Ken Wright at GP... some more might come to me later.

By the way.... we did not lose to AC because of the officials. We lost because we do not know how to win big games. That lesson takes some time to teach and we are still learning. To Eldridge and the AC Mavs... congrates and good luck!!!

When you find the voting location...please let me know. As it stands right now, there is no accountablity for any officials. I would like the opprotunity to give the good ones praise. If the officials supervisors had some input from coaches... they could help the weaker officials to improve and make a positive contribution to the game. Without them... we do not have a game.

I saw the sneak attack. It was totally unprovoked!!! The Kingston cheerleaders were minding their own business and then BAM... here comes the human projectile. It was not a pretty site. I am glad nobody was hurt... but it was funny.

The semi-finals of the district tournament will be played tonight at Oliver Springs H.S. dispite of the threat of bad weather. Come cheer your favorite team onto victory in the bobcat's den. Good luck to all teams!!!!

I don't know much but one thing I do know. Murvul is no joke. Lee makes them great. Without him... they would merely be very very good at best. They have a chance to win every night regardless of who they play. Very intense program!!! I would say the entire athletic program is pretty sound right now - but that would be the understatement of the century.

This thread is a lot of fun to read but it reminds me of a passage from Ecclesiastes because it is all meaningless. I am a realist and understand that we are all just entertaining ourselves. Is it possible that there will be an upset somewhere and one of the chosen few that have been mentioned above wont even make it out of the district or region. It is the middle of January... the players that have posted here need to concern themselves more with the next tuesday or friday and less with bantering about who is the best and will end up in M-boro. That will take care of itself.
