  1. Catholic 7, Gallatin 0 Maryville 4, Father Ryan 1 Bearden and McCallie tied at half
  2. Hats off to Bearden for the way they played last night. Maryville had no answers at either end of the field for them. Bearden's speed and quickness were too much last night and that was evident from the very beginning. It's tough for any team to come back from a 3 goal deficit, but it especially hard when you are playing a team like Bearden. Once they were up 3, their defensive intensity never let up and they never let Maryville get in to the game. Bearden's back line was tremendous and thwarted any opportunity that Maryville had in and around the 18. Maryville was forced to take many low-percentage shots and could never seem to get the run-of-play that they are used to. It's always fun to see 2 different styles playing against each other. Maryville is traditionally a more possession team, whereas Bearden is more of a run-and-gun type team. Bearden got round 1. Hopefully Maryville will learn from this and see them again in districts for round 2. Still a lot of soccer to be played. Good luck to Turner and his guys and finishing the season strongly. Ned
  3. Since the Farragut game, the following has happened: 1.) Coach Feather talked to both Coach Culbreth's and personally apologized 2.) Coach Feather wrote a written apology to Coach Culbreth and his team 3.) He sat down with Coach Quarles and spent a long time talking about crowd control, and coach Quarles suspended the fans who made remarks about Coach Culbreth's family. 4.) All fans were told never to have a post-game ceremony/knighting on any field--home or away. 5.) No ceremony was conducted after the West game, and Coach Quarles and Maryville's School Resource officer spent the entire game in the student section. Please know that the incident at Farragut was pushed by the fans. The Maryville team and coaches did not want this but still have done EVERYTHING to make sure this NEVER happens again. We have nothing but respect for Farragut. Ned
  4. I absolutely ASSURE you that silverfoot is not part of the Maryville coaching staff, nor is he a parent from Maryville. If Maryville loses, no one from Maryville will complain about Coach Culbreth being there. Anyone who knows Maryville coaches, players, and fans knows that Maryville would rather have Coach Culbreth there tonight. Good luck to both sides.
  5. There were a lot of emotions in this game and it was very fun to watch. The atmosphere was great! Both teams looked a little sloppy in the 1st half. Maryville seemed to dribble around too much and Alcoa did a great job at preventing any penetration through their box. 2nd half... Maryville was able to create space by knocking the ball around and finding our forwards' feet. David Lethco spun around to hit a volley that hit the far post and in to the net at 2 minutes in to the 2nd half. Caleb Lucas hit the 2nd goal at around 50 minutes when he beat a few defenders in the box. Josh Maner worked the ball down the right flank only to find Lethco in the box behind the defenders for the 3rd goal at 65 minutes and Austin Pugh hit a PK at the 68 minute mark. Overall a good game. Good luck to Alcoa.
  6. Wow. So, where does that put Catholic? 2nd or 3rd? The way I see it is that Farragut and Bearden have #1 and #2 spot locked up. And Maryville controls their own destiny. If Maryville beats West on Friday, then Maryville has the #3 spot to play #6, who would be Lenoir City (the winner plays Bearden). Catholic would have #4 and they would play the #5, who would be West (the winner would play Farragut). If Maryville loses to West, then Catholic would be #3 and I think Maryville would drop to the #5 spot. I don't even want to think about a tie right now. Let's just say that the outcome of this game on Friday night between Maryville and West will have an impact on many different teams and their playoff situations.
  7. The way that it is playing out is that Maryville controls their own destiny. Farragut will be #1 and Bearden will be #2. If Maryville beats West on Friday night, then they are 3rd and in Bearden's bracket. This would put Catholic at the 4 spot, which would be in Farragut's bracket. Let's just say there is a lot riding on this game on Friday night.
  8. Congrats to your son. Bad night for Maryville. Dominated possession and had most of the chances but possession means nothing if you can't finish your chances. Sorry if my report sounds different and more negative than AlcoaDad but Maryville almost seemed bored with their possession and it made for a boring game. They eventually got caught up and Alcoa was able to counter well with nice set pieces. Hats off to Alcoa...they stayed focus and deserved to tie...not a word about the PK...goals are goals and there is no use complaining. Injury report: Caleb Lucas suffered concussion in the first half Austin Pugh broke his leg and is out for the rest of the season Good luck to Alcoa. They are a focused team and they played well tonight. Good luck to them at tourney time.
  9. Looking forward to it! It's always fun to play in a crosstown / county rivalry match.
  10. In my opinion, Lenoir City has the best keeper in the district.
  11. Maryville fans...let's not complain about the call. We are making our team an easy target when we complain about missed calls and injured players. The call was controversial, but it will not be reversed. Most everyone saw the tape and it made us even more upset, but refs are human and they miss calls, and what in the world could sending in a tape REALLY do anyway? Mike Compton is one of the best refs in the area but he is also human. If we blame games on refs we are not focusing on our own weaknesses, and we are not holding ourselves accountable. There is never going to be an astericks beside this loss to Bearden that says "ref blew call." It will just go down in the books as a loss. Let's move forward and focus on getting better. As for the game, Maryville had most of the possession but the shot count was rather tight...maybe a slight edge to Maryville but could be wrong. Olif you are right thought... Bearden found a way to hang in there and win the game. Hats off to Bearden on their win tonight.
  12. Bearden 1 - 0 Hendersonville Bearden scored in the 1st half on a PK.
  13. Maryville-3 TN High-1 Good hard fought game. Maryville struggled in the first half but played better in the second half. Maryville had the run of play but no by much. TN High had some great chances that they didn't finish off and Maryille had some great unfinished chances too. Great to see Coach Valente...we always enjoy playing you guys and hope that we can continue the tradition. Good luck to the Vikings the rest of the way.
