Eaglette Softball player chooses Belmont http://www.t-g.com/story/2142378.html It didn't take long for Shelbyville Central senior softball standout Baylee Cook to decide where she would like to go to college and continue her softball career. Cook recently signed a letter of intent to continue her education and play softball at Belmont University. She made a commitment her sophomore year. Close to home "I'm so thankful to be given the opportunity that a lot of others never get and I'm thankful for my parents and everyone else that has helped and supported me," Cook said. "Belmont is the perfect fit for me and they made me an offer I could't turn down plus they will allow me to play softball and major in nursing. Also it's close enough that my parents can come see me play. The two-time District 8AAA Most Valuable Player is a three-year starter for the Golden Eaglettes and has played travel ball at the highest level, winning an ASA/USA "A" national championship as a 14 year old then a ASA/USA Gold "A" national championship this past summer as a 16-year-old as a member of the Fury 97 team. During her junior season, the center fielder posted a .543 batting average with a .641 on base percentage. She had 23 extra base hits, including eight home runs as a lead-off hitter for the Eaglettes.

She was named district MVP in 2014, and earned all-region honors in both 2013 and 2014. Carr has played travel ball with future Trojan teammate Bailey Alexander (FR/Glasgow, Ky.) for Coach Tyrone Dean and Fusion (Ky.). She currently plays for the TN Ballhawks, coached by Carl Edmondson and Dewayne Dotson. Coach Tyree says: "We are very excited to have Savannah become a part of our team. She has been playing competitively for a while and she always strives to play at a high level. We think she can come into our program and help us as a pitcher and be a leader on our team. She has helped her high school team reach the state championship game and we believe she can do the same as a Lady Trojan." Savannah Carr says: "I chose TNU because I loved the campus and the Christian atmosphere. I knew going to TNU meant not only getting a great education, playing the sport I love, but also becoming the successful adult I am striving to be." Mary Collins | Collierville, Tenn. | Houston High School | 5'11" C/1B Collins plays for Coach Matthew Parker at Houston High School, where she was named to the 2014 Tennessee Sportswriters All-State softball first team. She also was named to the 2014 Pepsi Best of Preps and to the Division I AAA All-Metro team. Collins set school records in 2014 for home runs (10), grand slams (4), and consecutive games with a home run (3). She has a .406 career batting average, with 18 doubles, five triples, and 14 home runs. Collins played travel ball last summer for the Mississippi Shockers coached by Pat Andrada. She now plays for Coach Tom McCluskey and the Alabama Kraze. Coach Tyree says: "Mary was definitely someone that I had an eye on last spring. She came to our summer camp and was one of the top players in camp. We are excited to get a player like Mary on our campus. We think she will have an opportunity to play right away and be a great student-athlete for us." Mary Collins says: "First, I've always wanted to be a teacher and TNU has a fantastic School of Education. It's one of the best colleges in the state of Tennessee. Second, I love the Nashville location and it's not too far from home. Third, TNU has a great softball program/tradition and great coaches, winning two conference titles in the last two years. The athletic facilities are top-notch too. And purple is definitely my color—Go Trojans!" Tana Whited | Lebanon, Tenn. | Friendship Christian School | 5'7" OF/1B Tana plays for Coach Jody Atwood at Friendship, where she was named to the TSWA and the Tennessee Softball Coaches Association All-State teams in 2014. Last season, she batted. .389 with 34 doubles, four triples, six home runs, and 92 RBI. She also plays travel ball for the Easton Edge, coached by Terry Burton and Craig Gulley. Coach Tyree says: "Tana comes to us with a Christian background and a competitive desire to play at a top-level program. She has the potential to help us immediately with her bat, defense, and ability to run the bases. Tana can play several positions and will get the opportunity to compete right away. She is a great fit for our campus and we welcome her to our family." Tana Whited says: "I look forward to my next four years as a Lady Trojan with some awesome girls and a great coach at my dream school. I felt it was the perfect fit with a Christian environment and a beautiful campus."

TENNESSEE VOLS Clarksville High catcher Haley Bearden has dream come true, signs with Lady Vols Bearden was named all-state, all-region, all-district and Leaf-Chronicle All-Area Player of the Year after her junior season after putting together one of the best campaigns every in the area by a softball player – batting .470, with 62 hits, 20 doubles, two triples and 18 home runs. She all drove in 72 runs. “For a player like Haley that’s always dreamed to go to UT and for them to want her is just that perfect fit and it couldn’t have worked out for a better person,†Clarksville High softball coach Brian Rush said. “It’s been a thrill to watch her grow from Richview Middle School to here and she’s just gotten better and better.   5. TENNESSEE STATE TIGERS Erica O’Kane P/IF, Jasper, Tenn., Marion County HS/TN Fury 97 O’Kane attends Marion County High School, playing for Chris Thomas, Ally Brooks and Larry Richards. O’Kane has a .436 career batting average and is a two-time All-District, as well as, All-Tournament selection. O’Kane paced MCHS to a pair of District titles. The two-sport athlete was a four-year letter winner in volleyball at Marion County. A captain in her senior season, O’Kane went on to lead the district in kills and aces. O’Kane was named All-District each year of her career and was a three-time selection to the All-Tournament team. The Tiger signee was a member of Fury 97 coached by Randy Coopinger and Keith Perry. O’Kane helped her travel squad to back-to-back National Championships. Coach Opdenbrouw on O’Kane “Erica is a versatile, well rounded player who can pitch, as well as play several positions in the infield. She was a workhorse in the circle this past summer. She knows how to keep batters off balance with her array of pitches. Offensively, Erica swings a big bat and we look for her to be a run producer in our line-up.†Abigail Stephens OF, Bon Aqua, Tenn., East Hickman HS/Jack City Stephens will reunite with current Tigers Chelsea Buchanan and Amber Galyon who all prepped at East Hickman High School for Coach Todd Collins. Stephens batted .565 and led the team in homeruns with five. As a junior, she topped her squad in stolen bases and was named 1st Team All-District. As a sophomore, Stephens helped EHHS to a Regional appearance. Stephens played her travel ball for Jack City-Jacobs, coached by Chris Jacobs, Charlie Williams, and Michael Connell. The outfielder batted .346 and accumulated a .481 slugging percentage. Stephens is a member of Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA).   6. Memphis Tigers Bayleigh Wisher has lettered every year at Collierville High School. She’s a versatile player who plays pitcher, first base and the outfield. Her team has been District 15AAA Champions and Region 8 Champions in 2012, 2013 and 2014. Last year, the team finished with a 35-12 record. Wisher was All-State in 2013 and 2014, Best of Preps All-Metro in 2012-2014, Best of Preps Player of the Year in 2014 and Collierville MVP in 2012-2014. She batted .490 with 54 RBI, 13 homeruns, a school record, and a .736 slugging percentage in 2014. In the circle, she was 20-5 with 165 strikeouts and a 1.22 ERA. “Bayleigh Wisher is a good local talent,†Poole said. “She pitches, plays some first base, as well as outfield. She can hit, which I think is a great attribute of hers. We look forward to seeing what she has to offer, first pitching, and then from there some other defensive positions.†She currently plays for Blue Angels 18U, but played last season with Lady Jaxx, finishing with a 39-16-3 record.   7. Memphis Tigers Christen Torres is a three year letter-winner in softball for Knoxville Catholic High School, where she played shortstop and third base. Her coach was Sarah Fekete Bailey, who was a two-time All-American with the University of Tennessee. Torres also had three letters in cheerleading, and two in volleyball as an outside hitter. Torres was named 2014 All-District and 2014 All-District tournament, and she was also named the 2014 Team MVP. In 2014 she batted .430 with five homeruns, 34 RBI and 21 runs. “We are excited about having her,†Poole said. “She’s a middle infielder and will have a chance to compete in our infield. I believe she can be a difference maker. She has a good arm and receives well. We think she’s going to do a great job right away.†Torres plays for Lady Eagles 18U, but played over the summer with Georgia Force 18U Gold, coached by former Georgia softball player Tori Moody.
