  1. That'll never happen. Both are excelling on the court and in the classroom, and they have a highly experienced, supportive coaching staff helping them further develop into quality players and young ladies. Please refrain from spreading negative comments about these ladies and this program.
  2. I am truly disappointed to see that another THS girls' coach has resigned. I grew up in Tullahoma, was a multi-sport athlete there, and have followed THS sports since relocating to Memphis (when I'm not busy with my own teams). Until parents and players make a TRUE commitment to the sport (a la Tamara Tilley and Monica Blake of the class of 2000-I'm reaching back here), the team will continue to struggle. The situation is not totally hopeless, but coaches aren't going to stay and invest in a program where they are met with resistance by the very people they are trying to help. Joe Carson (who ran a decent AAU program- the Tullahoma Stars) was all but tarred and feathered on his way out, and Mike Bailey (Allen Iverson's HS coach) didn't have much success either. It's been a revolving door ever since. Building a quality program takes TIME, development at the elementary and middle school levels, and investment by coaches, players, and parents in the off-season. Without these components, winning is difficult, especially in a district with one of the most storied programs in girls' basketball (Shelbyville, for anyone who might not know...) Best of luck to the successor.
  3. Our administration is on hand for our games at Central, just in case! I think that we might be the exception, though. Most of the time, if the fans are made aware of the rules regarding cheering, they comply. If not, our principal escorts them out. It's nice to have that kind of support and makes for a truly exciting atmosphere.
  4. He he. I love that line (cheese and wine). /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" />
  5. In a tough match, Central fell to White Station 3-1 (12-25, 23-25, 25-23, 22-25) in the MIAA City Championships. The Lady Warriors host the District tournament next week.
  6. Hutchison has won the big games and definitely desreves to be in the top 20, even the top 10. No one who's seen their schedule or a game can dispute that. I am actually a little shocked that people don't know who their coach is; she is highly respected in this area and has built a solid club program here in Memphis that has been beneficial to the level of competition here. (we can definitely agree on all of that) Best of luck to you in the 'boro this year; make sure you take the girls to Opry Mills when you get a chance--super fun shopping.
  7. relax, chosenone, There's no doubt that Hutchison is one of the best teams in Memphis. I'm not saying Benedict is better. I don't really have a dog in that fight. Unfortunately, not many people from West Tennessee post on coacht; therefore, information about volleyball teams out of the West, public or private, is almost non-existent. Hardly enough information is available to rank any team from Memphis, much less put one at #1 above the Brentwoods, Ravenwoods, and Franklins. Ease up on the publics in Memphis- not everyone on their teams can afford to shell out the money to play club ball in the off-season, which is where most of the private school players truly develop their talent. Personally, I would rather be the "Cinderella," fly under the radar, and realize that when it's all said and done, the trophies will speak for themselves.
  8. i would just like to add that St. Benedict beat Hutchison once, so the Sting may not need to be at the TOP of the list. They do deserve credit--their coach is amazing and always puts together an outstanding team. I think it's a rough job to try and complile a top 20 from all across the state! Kudos on the attempt.
  9. Central High finished its regular season today with a win over Memphis East, bringing the Lady Warriors to 20-14 overall and 14-0 in District 16-AAA. Central will play host to the City Championships Thursday and the District Tournament October 9-11.
  10. Tuesday, Central improved to 16-9 and 11-0 in District 16AAA with wins over Kingsbury and Overton. The Lady Warriors travel to Melrose for a district match today before heading to the Franklin Invitational this weekend.
  11. Central High improved to 10-0 in District 16-AAA with a 3-0 win over Whitehaven yesterday. Bolton also fell to the Lady Warriors 3-2 in a match that lasted nearly 2 hours. Notably, the Lady Warriors were down 20-5 in the fourth game, but came back to win 25-22 to force a fifth game, eventually winning 15-13. Central is now 14-9 overall, but 10-0 in their district.
  12. Memphis Central continued their streak today, beating Hamilton 3-0. Tuesday the Lady Warriors defeated both Melrose and SBEC, bringing their current record to 8-2 (6-0 16AAA) before heading into the Bolton Invitational this weekend.
  13. Central capped off their five game week yesterday with a forfeit win over Kingsbury, bringing the team to 4-0 in District 16-AAA and 5-2 overall. The Lady Warriors have steadily improved with each game and will face Melrose and SBEC Tuesday at home.
  14. Memphis Central defeated Whitehaven Tuesday 3-0 but fell to Cordova 3-2. The Lady Warriors came back from being down 0-2 to force a fifth game against the Lady Wolves before losing 15-13. Yesterday, a 3-1 win at Overton brought Memphis Central to a 4-2 record overall. Highlights include Deidra Nelson and Candace Stevenson combining for 19 kills. Setter Tia Glasper recorded 14 assists and Elisa Boyd recorded 7 assists and 7 aces. The Lady Warriors wrap up their week with a district match today at Kingsbury.
