  1. Today, my brother sent me a text with the attached image: Not sure anyone will be able to read anything from the image, so here is the text: Rickey Bowers became MBA's varsity football coach in 1994. That fall MBA won 9 games against 3 losses. The next year the Big Red had a 12-2 record and advanced to the semifinals of the TSSAA Class 5A State Championship competition. In 1996 MBA reached the playoff finals, losing to Brentwood Academy 23-20 in double overtime. Fullback Will Bartholomew and kicker John Markham were both named first team All-State. In college, both players would be captains of their respective teams, Tennessee and Vanderbilt. In 1997 MBA began competing in the TSSAA's new Division II-AAA composed of the private schools that gave financial aid. After two losses that September, MBA went undefeated for the balance of the regular season. In the playoffs, the Big Red upset Brentwood Academy in the Clinic Bowl for the schools first Division II state championship. It was fitting that MBA's state championship came in the 100th year of MBA football. Hunter Hillenmeyer, who was the Division II Lineman of the Year, went on to a stellar career at Vanderbilt and to become MBA's second NFL draftee since Bill Wade, following John Markham who was drafted two years earlier. At first glance I noticed 3 glaring errors that even the most basic fact checking would have turned up. I am not an MBA history buff, but if other information is based off of the errors I spotted, as it appears to be, then there are more errors that need to be corrected. I could also be totally wrong that these are innocent errors and maybe MBA is simply trying to rewrite history. How many errors can you spot?
  2. BA has wins in 5 or 6 different classes during the last 20 years, depending on how you count them. AA, 4A, 5A, DII-AA, DII-AAA, and a return to DII-AA after the TSSAA dropped the AAA class in DII.
  3. This game was 41-0 at the half. I am pretty sure BA scored on every drive in the first half, but I also missed the first few minutes of the game. Most of Kingsbury drives were 3 and out in the first half. I left at the half so I have no idea what happened after that, but based on the way that both teams played in the first half the 2nd, 3rd and 4th string saw some action. Even with backups in the game, I am shocked that Kingsbury was able to put up 38 points as they couldn't move the ball at all in the first half.
  4. This is an idiotic statement if there ever was one. They beat the teams they needed to beat to make it to this game. If Ensworth deserved to be in this game, they would be. However, they LOST a game that the HAD to win to make it to this game. They lost it to BA, who does deserve to be here. It isn't the BCS where you can whine about who should have been here. The two teams in this game did it by virtue of doing what needed to be done. The rest of the teams in DII did not. Period. That being said. They lost to Ryan who isn't very good, but they also beat Ensworth who was good. So what does that mean? you can't bring up the Ryan loss and not mention the Ensworth win. You might as well talk about the 15-0 Patriots, oh wait, that was 15-1.
  5. Just a few minutes before the end of the half. Baylor 21 BA 13
  6. I think BA wins by 3: 10-7 Anyone know if this game is going to be broadcast online?
  7. From what I have seen of this BA team, the secondary is the weak link. Every coach has to think that the D line will stop their run, so they air it out a lot. The BA secondary looks like a Jr. high team in comparison. IHS threw nearly 40 passes last week. I have to assume that Ravenwood did a lot of passing too. It also doesn't hurt when Rector is willing to go for 2 with 12 seconds to go and the game on the line.
  8. While not at this game, I was at the Independence game last week. BA looked weak in that game too. I was hoping that it was due to a lack of passing game, which was brought on by a 3rd string QB. Unfortunately, it appears that it goes deeper than that. The BA secondary played very poorly in week one, and it sounds like Ravenwood picked up on that and was able to really move the ball. If BA expects to win games on kick returns, they are very, very mistaken.
  9. And the Eagles lose a stunner 22-21. First county loss ever.
  10. No they did not have a loss on their record. They have one loss, and it was to MBA.
  11. The amount of info that I am learing about the founding of BA from this thread is amazing. I new that Mr. Brown had been at OHS before the founding of BA, but didn't know that OHS went to the 9th grade or that BA was an off shoot of OHS. Keep on bringing out the history guys, it is great.
  12. Coch Bobby has got to be one of my favorite teachers from HS. What a great guy. I missed playing for Bowers by a year if I am not mistaken. To keep this sidebar from being a total thread jack; I hope that MBA plays a good game and wins when they go to OH for this game.
  13. Sounds like you were a D line guy, as there is no mention of Patton and Pack in your whacks.
  14. BA lost in the Semis in 94 to Haywood Co. but did lose to Cleveland in the final in 93.
  15. Since when is going 14-1 and 12-2 considered unsuccessful? You have some pretty high standards.
