  1. Does anyone have any information on the upcoming Melrose football season such as schedule and returning roster information, etc:?
  2. I hope that Henry County has a large stadium, because we are bringing about 5000 fans from the Mound.
  3. I didn't make it to the first game that these two teams played, but i know that Melrose and all of Orangemound was embarrassed at the loss to Kingsbury. Since those earlier close losses the team has played on a different level defensively. They are now playing like a true Melrose team with a purpose. Speaking of a kicking game, you are right. We simply can't understand why a powerhouse program like Melrose and some of the other city school programs don"t address this problem in the off season. Our lack of a kicking game have cost us at least three state titles.
  4. We beat Fairly a few weeks ago to win the region. Our defense shut them down. Thry have weapons all over the field. The key to beating them is you have to jump on them early hold them down with solid defense. They have blazing speed.
  5. I think that coach Alexander will end up at East High, the school that he graduated from, or he will go back to Dallas and work with the Cowboys or in one of his businesses. Hopefully we can make it to the title game, but, going into this year i was always under the impression that next year would be our year. Especially with all the young players that we have. Big ups to BTW. Whats up with basketball this year?
  6. As a Melrose grad who lived just across Southern street I enjoyed the great Melrose and East rivalry games. Many of us on both sides of the rivalry have close family members who played and still play for both schools. I have many friends played for East through the years. We used to get together before the games in recent years and really kick things off. Sadly i don"t see them anymore. The East fan base has severely fallen off in the last few years. The key is to ban together and put some serious pressure on the Principle. We had to do that at Melrose when we stumbled recently. Believe me, when fans ban together the administration will listen. There is nothing greater than a packed house with East and Melrose fans. Sadly, we have not seen the East fans in a while now.
  7. Of all the out of town teams that have come and played in Orange Mound, including Hillsboro and Jackson Central Merry, my favorite would have to be the Henry County fans. We played them the last two years in Da Mound and they are truly great fans who really follow their school. We made friends with several fans who we allowed to park on our property and tailfgate with us before and after the games. This is what High school ball is all about. They promised us the same hospitality if we came to Henry County. Northside fans don't worry you will treated with the same kind of hospitality. Just try and get there early, lets say around 5pm or so. Ask anyone from JCM and they will tell you that there were not any problems at all. Just follow the grill smoke down Park avenue and it will lead you directly to Melrose stadium.
  8. I would like to welcome all Northside fans to Orangemound. I am a Melrose grad and my wife is a Northside grad. We live and work in Jackson but we own property across the street from Melrose stadium. We will sponsor a joint tailgate for fans of both schools so that fans can socialize before and after the game. The tailgate will start around 5pm complete with smoking grills and live music. GO INDIANS/GO GOLDEN WILDCATS
  9. As a Melrose grad living in Jackson it will be interesting for me to see a Jackson school going to Orange Mound to play. Melrose's defense has five shutouts so far this season and three games where the opposition scored only one touchdown. The superior runners that they have faced from Fairly,Whitehaven,Christian Brothers and Kingsbury have more than prepared them for Cordarius Mann. He seems to be the only weapon that Northside has. Once he is shut down they will pin their ears back and attack the quarterback.
  10. I live in west Tenn. and didn"t make the game either. I spoke to people who went, they believe that they had somewhat of a let down after that emotional game against Fayette-Ware. The defense was solid as usual but the offense was sluggish to start the game. East played hard because that game was their state playoff game.
  11. We don't know much about Northside, can anyone elaborate on who the have besides mann the running back.
  12. As a Melrose fan I would like to thank the East principle for our new track coach. East alumni need to get toghether and demand better from your new administration. I have a lot of friends who graduated from East and they are serious Mustang fans. We would never allow this to happen in Da Mound. Look at what happened to our last two coaches that stumbled in the playoffs.
