  1. Hampton High School will be honoring former coach Jerry White Tuesday, Dec. 17 before their game with Cloudland. Since coach White coached at both schools it seemed to be the best time to do it. All former players and assistant coaches are urged to attend. So if you are a former player or know anyone who played for coach White please help spread the word so that a nice turnout will be at the game.
  2. Another kicker who deserves recognition is the kicker from Tennessee High. I can't remember his name but he was the real deal. I heard that a lot of D-1 schools were looking at him.
  3. Located in Roan Mountain in Carter County. I'm sure that you will become more familiar with them before too long.
  4. The Rangers won their first game over Sunland or something like that. It was in today's paper. The score was 65-53 or close to it. Haven't heard anything about Volunteer.
  5. Doesn't look good for Kevin. Preliminary report is a torn A.C.L. and a sprained M.C.L. Don't know how long he will be out, could be a while or the whole season. It is truly a shame because he is a fine player and to get injured before his senior season seems unfair. The 'Dogs will persevere though. Coach Hazelwood will go back to the drawing board and come up with something...I hope...
  6. I agree. I mean no offense to the players that were nominated in 1A because I am sure that they are very good players, but to not even have Mark Byrd nominated is a serious omission. He is truly a great player and athlete and should atleast be nominated.
  7. Kevin had an M.R.I. yesterday and should hopefully know something by Thursday.
  8. Welcome back rolltideroll. I was wondering when you would show up since basketball season is right upon us. It is good to hear from you and I, along with others look forward to future posts.
  9. Congratulations to Wartburg for their 28-14 win tonight. They played well in the second half and pulled away. The 'Dogs from Carter Co. had their chances but when they failed to score at the end of the first half with a first and goal from the one yard line that did them in. Had they scored the score would have been tied at 14-14 at the half, anybody's ballgame. No excuses, the better team won tonight. Best of luck to the Bulldogs next week against Oliver Springs
  10. I am not worthy of your comments tdog. I too have a great respect for what the players and coaches of Unaka do year in and year out. I enjoy watching any team play that plays hard and plays team basketball. To me that is the way that the game is supposed to be played. There shouldn't be that big of an animosity between county schools even if you want to beat them in whatever sport. You can pull against that team when you are playing them but after the game friends should remain friends, no matter the outcome.
  11. I don't know why we are talking about this again but there were not previous circumstances because Hampton and Happy Valley played that team before Unaka did. They were cheering for them before they even played against them, but this is all water under the bridge and should not be brought back up repeatedly.
  12. No one up this way is slighting Wartburg, on the contrary we are simply trying to defend our Bulldogs. You people get on here and say that we have no chance of winning and that we had better enjoy our final days of practice. Seems to me that we have a problem with our short term memory. We for sure are not taking Wartburg for granted because we know what a good team they have, it is the other way around.
  13. If Hampton got a big transfer in I would like to see him play, and Coach Hazelwood would like to see him show up for practice. It is much ado about nothing.
  14. O.K. hablo I will help you keep it going. I agree first with Blaize in the fact that it will most likely come down between the Rangers and 'Landers. Secondly I agree with tdog that U.H. will find some way to self destruct in the big game because of a lack of discipline. It has developed into a pattern for them. All in all it should be a very entertaining and competitive season in the W.V.C.
  15. I guess since this is a Hampton thread that atleast one person on here should be from Hampton. I think that the 'Dogs can win one and possibly two games if they play really well, but that would be it. I don't get on here and predict a score or say that a team should enjoy their final days of practice like some of the big 'prognosticators' do. I have simply said that the 'Dogs are better than most people give them credit for and that they have a very good chance of winning come Friday. Win or lose I am very proud of all that they have accomplished this year. Congrats Bulldogs and Coach Campbell.
  16. Don't be overlooking the Hampton Bulldogs. We have had a pretty solid year and have been playing our best football lately. I know that Wartburg has a good team, I saw them last year, but we are also better. Should be a great game. I can't wait to see what comes about.
  17. The Warriors will be a different team this time. They now have Lamar Rollins back in the lineup. Will one man make that big of a difference, I don't know but they are MUCH better when he is in the lineup.
  18. I believe that the 'Toppers will scrimmage at Hampton this week, maybe Tuesday. Somebody will have to verify this though.

    1000 yards

He only needed 80 yards last night to reach 1,000. Does anyone know how many yards he got?

    Mark Byrd

Congratulations to Mark. He is deserving of every award, record or whatever type of recognition that he gets. A great young man and athlete.
  21. These aren't the same 'Dogs that played last year. They are much better and more balanced than usual. It should be a great game so you shouldn't count Hampton out just yet.
  22. I believe that they have a good opportunity to but they will only go as far as their pass defense lets them. If they run up against a good passing team it could pose a problem. But that team would still have to score 30 or more points to beat them because they are going to get their points.

    mark bryd

You'll never find a more deserving young man than Mark Byrd. He has tremendous athletic ability and is an outstanding young man to boot. Best of luck in your pursuit of the record. Of course, he will probably break it again next year if he stays healthy.
  24. You are not alone in your thinking. I have heard a lot of people talking about that very same thing. Maybe that is why Luns has trouble getting teams to play. I believe that they did the same thing to Powell Valley, scoring right at the end of the game. Maybe they didn't know that coach Cline was out of timeouts or something.
  25. If Wartburg is #4 this year and travels to Hampton I don't think that the 'Dogs will be the same team that you remember from last year. Wartburg had a good team last year but the 'Dogs helped them quite a bit with mistakes. We will have to wait and see though.
