  1. Coached him for a year when he was in Jr. High. Should definitely be a great one. He has a brother one year older that can play also. That class of JRs. and SOs. can really be something special given the right leadership and system. Loaded with size, guards, and all are great athletes!
  2. just curious as to what the delay is in finding a coach for Liberty Tech and Northside (girls). These are two very good programs and jobs and both have been open for about two months. Whats the deal? Anyone got an idea? Seems that they should want to try to get people in place b/c we all know how important summer is.
  3. Not a surprise here. Congrats Coach Russell on a great career and it was great having the opportunity to work with you for 5 years. Learned a lot!
  4. seems that nothing has changed. coached against humboldt for 5 years and always felt we had a chance if my (much less athletic/talented) kids could handle the pressure and REBOUND we could win and we did win 3 times out of about 12 or 13 times.... no way we shouldve won any. They're man to man defense is horrible (rely mainly on their zone traps and their ability to out athlete you) and at the state tourney level you must be able to play solid man to win . They did get screwed last year in the first round match-up (two best teams vs. each other) but honestly they shouldve had two, if not three Gold Balls prior to last year anyway. One thing is certian, they'll never be short of athletes and will make a run at it pretty much every year.
  5. I was just informed that one of the biggest supporters of GC sports and one of the nicest guys I've ever met passed away this morning. Dean Miller was the statistician for both the boys and girls teams and was a good friend to myself and many in the GC community. My sincerest condolences go out to his family and to the school, players, coworkers and everyone in general associated with Pioneer athletics.
  6. For those interested, its true Hillsboro is not the same since the injury but Izzy harrison's play has not changed. Great athlete/ "arguably"?????? how is there an argument for any other bracket. 5 of the top 10 teams in the nation including the top 3? how do you devise a tourney with the top three teams in the nation in the same bracket... they been watching the TSSAA and just taking the easy way out and doing a blind draw? lol
  7. depending on how good your team is you can call dion cross who runs the Arkansas Best Tourney. There are several TN (memphis) teams in it this year and a team from Miami,FL. It has some of the best AR teams in it as well so its good comp. Its in Little Rock AR so its not NE Arkansas but only about another hours drive so... Add more info about your team and I'll give you the number to reach him. My team plays in it this year starting this Sat so...
  8. Ok then funny guy? since you have done nothing but critisize others opinions what would be your choice? And I'd be willing to bet that you dont have a clue what u are talking about and will just pick the team that you are loyal to. Haywood is the biggest most athletic team and as for the jamboree i no longer live in TN and did not see it but one or two games dont really amount to much.... Dyer Co. beat them last year by 40 the first game and barely (BARELY sqeeked by) the other two games later on. Take it for what you want but be carely on who you are critisizing b/c i guarantee you dont know more about the situation and teams involved than I do. MY PICKS: 1. Haywood: most size, most athletes, couple of really good players. may take a while to gel but should be the best team. 2/3. Covington: lost a lot but will be very fast and athletic, good coach 2/3. Milan: is well coached and play hard, good shooters, and execute well, not to sure about depth and dont have much real size. 4. Westview: Good players, good shooters, new coach so some uncertianty here but they are traditionally the best of the "old district" now that DC is gone. could sneek up to 2nd or 3rd if they can find their stud some good help. 5/6. GC: seems to be clicking but then hit a couple of road blocks against teams that are down in single A. have potential but will they finally be able to reach it this season... can beat any team in the district any night. 5/6. Ripley: new and VERY accomplished coach. Always some good athletes and will have one or two very good players. Can beat anyone any night but could and will drop some to the lower teams in the district most likely. 7. Dyersburg: Down but better than last year. 8. Crockett Co: Should be a bit better but not too much so. Could cause some problems for a few teams but wont be much higher than 6th. 9. Obion: Very small and lost their big leaders from the last few years. Will be really down on talent.
  9. Hey coachgat, what does Parkview have/ do well? They will be one of our (my teams) biggest threats for a state title here in AR?
  10. Haywood. As far as this disrtict goes it should be the Tomcats over the next few years. Problem is the district doesnt matter when you face the other side of the region with the big 3 staring you in the eyes, but I feel like Haywood would be the only team that would be big enough, athletic enough, and deep enough to beat one of those.
  11. lol... true about coach hopkins. He worked with me for about a year and a half and showed me all the tricks and secrets so guess what I use now! LOL... hey, if you give me the right price I may let you in all the details of how its run.... LOLOLOL
  12. Coach McMillan is a genius coach and so far ahead of me its sad, but the only problem i'm seeing is I would hate to have to figure out how to get all these girls enough playing time to keep em all happy! What, thats like 10 signees for the 2010 class that are all All State caliber players? They better really buy in to the system or be naturally very unselfish. UTM definately got the best man for the job and its showing. Like I said, I know a Coach over at Union U that must be stocking up on Pepto or something. LOL
  13. "former coach" Dexter Williams... Liberty Tech. End of argument... unless you wanna argue that he is currently not a head coach.
  14. 1. They will compete for first but most likely end up second behind Northside in what is probably the weakest 3A district in the state. They have some very good young players and the syle they play will give them a chance to win against most anyone they play until they hit the dominate 3A Memphis schools. Losing CJ will hurt the most b/c he was a 4 year starter and the heart and the engine of the team the last 3 years. 2. Their players are'nt at all selfish, but its more about getting the ball to the two or so playmakers and giving them free reign to make plays. Sure there were times that Pierce, Yarbrough, or even CJ would take bad shots or not pass to someone open but you cant overcoach those types of players and have them thinking too much instead of just going with their instincts and playing/attacking.... its the style that has obviously worked. All in all they will be something close to 20-10 give or take a couple of games on either side.
