  1. We might get a difference of opinions here, but the way I saw it, Farragut beat Bearden at its own game - kick and run (or long ball). I saw maybe three Admiral games this year and each one they progressivly got better. Farragut's first goal, I believe, came off a goal post rebound (I missed this one and will need confirmation). Bearden fans contest it was clearly off side by yards, don't know, didn't see it - when I got to the game it was already 1-0. Admirals 2nd goal was a thing of beauty, run down the left side of field, cross to box, header. 2-0 half. Two minutes in Bearden scores after putting immediate pressure, scramble in box 2-1. Bearden kept the pressure going, thought it was going to be bang bang bang, but it never happened. Hard hits, a few yellow cards, but all in all, pretty much a clean game. Kids kept their cool, despite the rivalry. I believe Farragut hosts Catholic for next game.
  2. Maryville 6-0 Boards seem quiet, no comments on game? I missed the showdown but heard it was an ugly Farragut showing and nasty Maryville fans, but team looked impressive.
  3. Alumni all-stars 6-0. The old "men" still have it. After a 1-0 half, there were questions if the older group had the stamina to continue to make the runs...Heard full squad not available due to ACT's, but not sure if they would have made that much more of a difference. it was nostalgic and entertaining to watch.
  4. I wouldn't count either Catholic or Bearden out, just yet. Yes there are issues with depth and egos (respectively), but this is high school soccer and as we saw this season, anything can and will happen. Regarding next few years, don’t count out Farragut either. Only graduating three key seniors and returning strong underclassmen with tons of varsity experience, expect them to make a long run next year.
  5. It was meant as a tongue-n-cheek comment. It was an own goal that made the difference. Giannelli (sp??) put it in the box and a Farragut defender attempted to clear, but shanked back towards goal. Good attempt to stop ball by keeper, but…
  6. Bearden 1 Farragut 0, Farragut scores only goal of game and loses.
  7. First round, Farragut 3-0 over Maryville. A rough hard fought win, Maryville never gave up and kept pushing all the way to the end. Katy (keeper) came up big with a PK save and later an upper 90 save Bearden handled business with an 8-0 win over Heritage West came back from 2-0 deficit to beat Lenoir City with 3 goals in last 20 minutes. Strategic personnel shift by Sonny made the difference. No info on Catholic/William Blount. Farragut vs Bearden round 2 should be a dandy! Bulletin board material: Turner glad about not breaking Bearden scoring record against Heritage, so she can do it against Farragut. Disclaimer: heard it from a friend who heard it from a friend who heard it from a mother of Turner's teammate, so no idea on validity.
  8. Very good game. Bearden scores off of two set pieces: 40 yard direct kick through keepers hands and then an outside the box, 25 yard low shielded(?) ball slipping into net untouched. Field play went back and forth, evenly matched. Will be fun to see round two if they meet up again.
  9. With new addition/upgrade, clearly they are the team to beat in the east.
  10. ...the “party over” for Admirals... Wish I was there, I guess Bristol and missing three impact players was too much for Admirals to overcome. Well done Centennial.
  11. Knew Carlos was out for season (injury), now Cody (red card), but didn't realize Nick was also missing. Anyone have story on him? With three starters out, is the “party over” for Admirals? Or will the rest of the 18 seniors be able to step in and keep rolling? Have seen Bristol plenty of times in TN club play and always against a lesser quality team, realizing H.S. play is different, Farragut should still prove to be a stiff test for him and his back line.
  12. Also what exactly happened on Carlos's injury? I just saw him go down. I believe ACL related. Hate to see this happen.
  13. soccergrad69, posting some bulletin board material? Tough to go through all season blowing out everyone. Playoffs are a different season and everyone steps it up, some more than others. Regarding the unfortunate injury to Carlos, while he is a good player, losing him is not as huge when you have seven or eight other seniors on the bench who can step in and see minimal fall off in play (that is deep), tough way to end your H.S. career. Will be interesting to see how Culbreth coaches thru this "slump" . Never really saw him as an X's & O's type of coach, but boy can he motivate. The last two games/scare may be the catalyst Admirals need. Expect to see a different team, of late, against Bearden. But then again, this is the playoffs.
  14. Well I'm officially done with any predictions during tournament time! Bearden, despite their injuries, came to play and gave Farragut all they could handle. Look forward to round three, if they both get past formidable region foes.
