  1. I agree totally and I keep waiting for someone to come out and say April Fool's.
  2. Trust me Albert Means is more than qualified for the job. He has been the DC at White Station High in Memphis and now has a 6A state title ring. I think it is sort of odd that he would apply for this job, but I think he would do a good job. Also he is a good guy so that helps as well.
  3. Congrats to St. Benedict's Trey Wilkins. I had the pleasure of coaching that kid for a year and he is super. He has a 3.9 GPA and runs a 4.4. Was a stud in that offense this year from watching his highlight tape. The team struggled a bit, but I think will turn around in the near future. Vanderbilt is showing heavy interest in him right now from what I am told. Good job Trey!!
  4. So am I understanding this right? No Reservations you are saying that the hire has been made and it is from our neck of the woods correct?
  5. What is the latest on this job?
  6. First of all I want to say Congrats to MUS, Union City and White Station for bringing gold balls back to this part of the state. Second I still agree with BMack, until teams from the Memphis and surrounding areas consistently show up and win title games then this side of the state is always gonna be looked down upon. Like I said in an earlier post. I was at the Champ games this week since I go every year and I was in the TACA tent where all the other coaches are and only saw one coaching staff from the area there. I heard a coach say well it was to far of a drive, but at least one other coaching staff from Memphis was there and staffs from East Tn were there. I take pride in representing my state as well as West Tn wherever I go.
  7. Congrats White Station on a great season! Good to see a West Tn bring home the gold ball. Good job Maryville on a great season as well. White Station was just the better team last night and sometimes that happens. To overcome some of the adversity during the game and the "no-quit" attitude of Maryville and still bring it home, good job Coach Rutherford, Coach Means and the rest of the staff and players. Would have loved to have had that Burton kid over here at Arlington. He is something special as is Hayes. Go Tigers!!
  8. Instances like these are why the TSSAA needs to have Mr Football finalists for all 6 classes and not group them together b/c in my opinion some very deserving young men are going to get left out.
  9. I agree Trader B. We played Millington last game of the year and they ran the double wing and got a full dose of belly, buck sweep, wing back trap and waggle pass. First game of the playoffs we play Independence. Same formations except more midline, veer type plays like Georgia Tech does. That is correct that if your players are better than theirs then it does not matter what you run. That Hillsboro team had some athletes.
  10. Sure it can although I am younger and happen to be a fan of more modern wide open offenses, but I do think it can win titles. Dont think it can consistently though. You have to be able to pass out of it. I have seen many teams breeze through the regular season running it, but then get in the playoffs and get hammered b/c they ran into a defensive team that could make them one dimensional. ONe thing is for certain it is hard to stop if a team runs it right. I would agree that teams that run it right win alot of games, but then lose in the playoffs.
  11. Evidently they did have an awesome offense to put up 42, but this is why you play defense as well. Also good lesson learned about guaranteeing wins. Anyway Congrats on a great season Mitchell.
  12. Congratulations White Station! Good luck next week against Maryville!
  13. I agree there are some bad coaches in our city and county, but there are also some good ones and I think if you can constantly get to the playoffs and be successful then you must know what you are doing. Teams like Mitchell and White Station are in the semi's every year. Mitchell beat a good Lipscomb team that several years ago smoked them in the state game and then had Knoxville Catholic on the ropes. I watched the Spartans play in the second round win over Kirby and although I did not think they played that great in that game I still do think they have a very good shot at beating Brentwood. As far as the Middle-West Tn argument that is a way bigger picture than good or bad coaching in my opinion. Good luck to our Memphis teams!
  14. Im with you guys I want to see some Memphis flavor up there next week. Getting excited to make the annual pilgrimmage to the state champ games. Got the hotel booked. Head up there Thursday morning and back after the last game Sat night. I will say this though and I have never been able to figure it out. For whatever reasons coaching staffs and fans of high school football in Memphis hardly ever go up there. Last year I saw the head coaches of Hamilton and Raleigh Egypt and the Bartlett coaching staff that was it. I learn something new every year I go. I do understand that sometimes things come up like I missed a couple of years ago b/c of a death in the family, but I go every single year. My wife knows not to plan anything for that week b/c I am going to go hang out with the guys and watch tons of football. Go West Tn!!
  15. Stockstill withdrew his name from the University of Memphis opening. I think this is all just people talking. Only the administration and applicants really know what is going on. As far as those two guys named Perry and Crawford, people get on this site all the time and just say things. Who knows if those guys really are interested or not. I do agree with what you are saying though about coaches applying all over the place if they are a head coach, but people make up stuff all the time. I personally am a fan of the Tony Franklin system as I have seen many teams not named MUS have success with this offense. People just assume you have to have athletes and I was one of those people who thought Arlington would never be able to run it because they did not have exceptional skill guys. Well I witnessed it with my own eyes the whole season. After a 10-1 season I am convinced that it can be ran very effectively if taught well.
