I guess it is the same thing that happened to our baseball, basketball, soccer, chess team. Not to long ago we had almost the same respect in baseball as we did in football. Who do you think is to blame?

Its hard to find positive when you only won three games and they were all against 1A teams not only did we not win a district game in 2A but next year the glass will be empty (no optimism) because we will be in 3A were the competition is a lot better. The best thing that can happen is that Portland opens up 2 more high schools and we can all be 1A were we belong and we can compete. There is always next year PHS Strawberry champs 10'

Just wanted to hear how the mighty panthers are doing this spring. Has anyone seen the panthers practicing ? How is the new Tony Franklin system working. Herd they had over 100 players out and are ready to get things turned around. Last time I checked Portland has a real strong Sr. class that went undefeated as a freshman group and most of them have started for 3 years. Should be no reasons why Portland can not do some major damage in the Sumner County district this season. Oh yea think they scrimmage Centennial High School on May 14 (any 1 know were this scrimmage is being played?)

yea I herd it was 12-0 (its not football season yet, that score can't be right) Anyway must be the coaching (two different coaches exact same result) so it must be the coaching and not the players. Still waiting to see the new panther team (seemourbutts) your post earlier: { thanks for opinion thats incredibly insane and uncalled for. danny thompson was a great coach, but the last couple years was burnt out. he has moved on and i have great respect for him. coach parker is turning this around. they got beat by white house both times but were competing. dont comment on something u have no idea about. ptwon is going through a transition. and half of this i have no idea what u are talking about. so just shut ur mouth, get some facts, and come watch the boys play.} Boy I hope coach jimmy boy parker is not already getting burn out like your last coach did. fbcoach I have said nothing about jimmy boys inability to coach only that no matter who is there it will be difficult to compete in any sport. But he may not get the time he needs to turn it around (herd the FB coach got fired after only 3 years, and had no support from the principal). Just saying if they had bobby cox they would still struggle. Seemorebutts (BG) All of this is beyond your control. You can only play with what or with whom you have. BG why would say that phs would finish 3rd in district before season started? That is whats wrong at phs. The players (like BG) think that the best they can do is not get last in the district. If I could play, my mind set would always be to win it all and go undefeated. But thats my mind set and i would do everything in my power to make sure it got done. Thats whats wrong with phs the "athletes" want to talk about changing things but nobody does anything thing about it. If you continue doing the same things that do not work what makes you think the end result will change? OK you are a bigger school than WHHS so you should have more athletes (players) than they do, Not the case. If you think getting beat by 5, 6, 10 runs is competing then I guess we are competing, again not the case. Baseball is different from basketball and football, in that you don't have to have the biggest, fastest, strongest, and most talented player to play it. Baseball (like golf) is just not a very physical sport and if you can catch, throw, and make a little contact than you should be successful (once more not the case at phs). Teams go thorough cycles and right now phs is just in one of those slumps and will probably be in one for the next 7, 8, 10 years or so. Unless phs somehow splits into two different schools than I do not see a lot changing. My advise baseball dad is to tell your sons to go out there and do their best and make daddy proud. And maybe you could tell them that old cliche it doesn't matter if your black or white. No wait that's not it, maybe its this one, it doesn't matter if win or lose its how you play the game that counts. (Vince Lombardi would roll over in his grave if he heard that) So (seemore butts) i say to you that you are the delusional one that thinks just because your sons are on the team and playing, that this year will be different( must I say it again? NOT THE CASE!)

seymourbutts1 what are you going to say about the guy when he replaces both your boys. Are you still going to praise the savior of portland baseball or will you (and the rest of hickville) finally figure out that portland just does not have the same type players that they are competing against. Like someone said earlier they have not been able to compete in any sport (maybe volleyball, skateboarding, and table hockey) but it is not the coaches. Danny Thompson did a good job with what he had to play with. Correct me if im wrong but portland didnt have any 1 go pro or sign a college scholarship last year. Same with this new guy (jimmy boy) he will try to do the best with what he has and most of the time it not going to be the same as what they are playing against. So unless barry bonds comes to portland and gets them on his plan, portland will continue to struggle. seymourbutts1 you will have to continue to support portland when they go 0-fer in the district again. fbcoach4 (jimmy boy) (his dad, best friend from boyd) or whoever you are dont build yourself/your son/your boy up to be the best High School coach around / you only setting yourself up to fail. Let me get this right, you are saying since he went there in high school(as a player) then he knows how to do it as a coach. OK Lets now look at Portland's coaching staff that got fired: Beavers the head coach was an assistance on the 2000 state championship team and also on the state runner up in 99. This is also true for Coach Curry, and Coach Venable. If that wasn't enough by it self lets look at some of the other coaches. Hunter Hicks was a captain on the State Champion team. Who also played on the 99 team. Chase Brooks who played on the 2000 and 99 team was a Mr Football running back. Chad Bruce and Derek Boyd who graduated in 02 had the best 4 years of any classes that has ever came through Portland only losing like 4 games. (and they also played on the state team in 2000 and 99) Jimmy "Boy" Parker went to the state 3 times at a private school. So you would figure that they would know a little something about what it takes to get there. Or maybe it is true of what has been said on the Portland threads: That Portland has no talent and those Coaches did the best they could with there "athletes" . Only time will tell Good Luck to coach Sanders and his athletes in 2009.

Listen if I had a choice of sending my kid to Hillbilly High School or a school the competes for the state year in and year out then I am going to send my kid to that school. And they will prob. get a better edumacation.

Portland just announced who the head coach was and it was not who any of us expected. It will be made official Monday but the Guy that bobby hired to replace Coach Beavers has not won as many games as Beavers did at Portland. Go figure, this one does not make sense. You fire a guy because he can not win, then you bring a guy in who has won less? Someone please help me figure this one out. I am sure he is a good guy and I have nothing against him but if you are going to fire Beavers then you need to hire a man that has a least been a head coach and won some games (more than 5). Hope Portland can adjust to the spread because they are about to play some men come fall. Good Luck to the new coach and to Portland in 09' PHS High school champs (in portland) in 09'

You Must not know the Perrys then (Coach Roger Perry won over 200 games at Portland) Surely hi son can win 7. Nuts I think not! Portland- Town champs in 09'

I think White House- but he has been getting offers from Wilson Central, the new WhiteHouse school, Springfield, and he turned down the Blackman job for shad. He will be a great pick up for any school around (Macon Co?) (Portland)
