  12. i think it helps teams that cant fill all 14 weight classes but have multiple kids in the same weight class. It helps those kids who get pigeon holed in a weight class to get a chance to shine . ive seen plenty of programs who might have 2 really good heavyweights or 106 lbers who both have the talent to do well at state. I think it helps give kids and teams opportunities that they haven't had before. for example this year my 106 took 2nd, when he was out sick his back up went 33-2 on varsity. this kid could not bump up because the 113 was a state medalist. this also happens a lot at heavyweight.
  13. Michigan has done this for over 15 years. can send 14 wrestlers to districts. with no more than 2 in a weight class and all of them can score. you have 14 scorers regardless. ive seen teammates wrestle each other for state titles. ive brought this up for years at the coaches meeting at the state tournament and nothing. this was the first year i did not speak about this because it will probably never happen
  14. we had 1 team drop out monday from our dual tournament. if you are looking for a tournament on saturday let me know [email protected] John Kramer Wilson Central HS

  18. I personally like it. At state last year every match had a pretty tough kid in it and it made watching more enjoyable to me. I think this way it means more to be a state qualifier. i see a lot of comments about teams not getting any state qualifiers, my advice is work harder and up your game - like start and get involved in a youth club, help out with the middle school team, bring in clinicians to work with your kids, make it exciting when you have home matches, for example we run out to music and wrestle under a spotlight, kids go to the mat to their own walk out song and we throw t-shirts to the crowd with each pin and make sure you have a special seating area for club and middle school kids so they can get close to the action. When i came to WCHS the program was really bad and then they moved us to region 5 and i was told not to expect to get anyone to state any time soon and my comment back was we just need to up our game and we did and became pretty competitive. i truly believe this will make wrestling better in Tennessee and not worse
