  1. Congratulations Walker Valley! And thanks for letting all of those over zealous fans of opposing teams from across Tennessee realize that you all are NOT over rated. Good luck with your quest and this Owl fan is pulling for you all the way. Go Owls... and Mustangs!
  2. Congratulations Walker Valley! You were without a doubt the best team and best coached team I have seen play in a very long time. You deserve this victory and I will be pulling for you in your run for the state. From all of the Owl fans, I wish you the best of luck. I said in my earlier post before the game, don't bet money you can't afford to loose and don't leave any WV player open from behind the three point line. I would have been at that game if Ooltewah didn't have a home baseball game. As it turned out, it was not much of a baseball game but it did sound like a heck of a basketball game. Go Mustangs! Go Owls!
  3. The directions in this story are wrong. Take Exit 33 turn right and the school will be about 3 miles on the LEFT. It may be a small school but I think you will be impressed with how nice it looks.
  4. Wow... I can't believe what I am reading on this board about how bad Walker Valley is and how they are over rated. Let me just give you my two cents on the game. I have never seen their opponent and I am not a fan of Walker Valley. However, I have seen Walker Valley play several times this year and they bend but never break. The one thing you can say about ALL the Bradley County teams is they are very fundamental and well coached. Here is a heads up for all who think that Walker Valley is over rated. Don't bet any money you can't afford to lose and don't leave a single player on their team alone behind the three point line. If you do, you will get lit up. Again, I am not a fan of Walker Valley but I must say I have really enjoyed watching them play this year. They bring fundamentals and TEAMWORK back to high school basketball. Go Mustangs!
  5. After the all day Saturday scrimmage a couple of weeks ago, the Owls finished 4-0 by a total score of 38 - 2. The owls as well as the other teams rotated through all of their pitchers. I would say from what I saw, Garret Baugh is not necessarily their best pitcher. But that was only one outing and I do not know the names of all their pitchers. There was a really good Sophomore pitcher according to the guy sitting next to me. The new coach has really brought a lot to the table and these guys look totally different from last years group. Much more disciplined and more fire in their bellies.
  6. The Red Bank fans moved up to Signal Mountain High School. The remaining students and alumni don't follow this team very well. Don't underestimate how dangerous they can be. If you allow Nick Ross to get hot, it will ignite the rest of the team. He is their core go to man. He has unbelievable range when he gets hot. They do play a very playground style of ball but do it with a lot of intensity. Now with all that said, I am pulling for Oakland. There are only two teams in Hamilton County that I can not pull for and Red Bank is one of them. Good Luck! (I am a big Nick Ross fan as he is a great kid. However, you can expect a lot of whining from another on that team.)
  7. Congrats Grace from all of the other schools who are tired of hearing from (A) certain Temple fan about how great they are and how THEY are the only quality basketball program in town. Is it just me or has Chattanooga basketball reached a new level with QUALITY basketball programs? Good luck to both teams.
  8. HHCAfan... I appreciate seeing your positive remarks about this decision. I have seen only about 3 games that Hamilton Heights have played in and your coach is as GOOD and CLASSY as they come. As far as him being a math teacher, I commend East Hamilton for getting a coach with a degree in something other than PE. East Hamilton has put together a very impressive line up of teachers and coaches. I think this new school will go places as well as the new students that will be in attendance. I wish Hamilton Heights the best of luck with their basketball program, both girls (incredible as well) and boys. Now if only Wes Moore could get an opportunity at a larger program like he deserves. But he too would be sorely missed at UTC.
  9. Congrats Soddy!!! I wish I could have been a fly on the wall in the locker room of Red Bank after that game. As loud and vocal as Coach Cherne is during the game, I can only imagine the atmosphere of the locker room when you are the number 1 team and you get upset by the number 4 team in your OWN gym with a much larger crowd. I noticed he was absent from the scene last night when Ooltewah played Central. Speaking of which... not a good game by either team. Poor shot selections by Central cost them down the stretch. I have never seen Ooltewah miss SO many lay-ups. Anyway, good luck Soddy... you finally got a break. Looking for a good game Friday night and I will be there pulling for my Owls!
  10. You keep bashing Upward with your comments and I bet you have never had any experience with Upward. I have coached Y ball, Upward ball and AAU ball when my kids got older. I had many Upward teams that would have beaten my Y teams. Many of these players are playing high school basketball and two are now playing in college. I take your comments offensive as you want character in basketball refs while defaming a good organization. While I feel Upward is great for younger players, the Y league and then AAU are better for the older players, but I would not make light of the contributions done for character by this organization. Yes, there are bad refs and it would be nice for the coaches to have a little more involvement in evaluating these guys. If you want to see bias refs, just play any Cleveland area team with an outside team. These guys are good, but very bias and can throw a game quick if you get up too much on their area teams... which is not easy as they have great teams in that area. For my final comment... just call these guys clowns and quit bashing organizations devoted to building character.
  11. Wow... I have been gone for the holidays and come back to hear a whole lot of bickering but not a lot about football. I think the Owls have a lot of depth in the running back and receiving departments but will be really thin in the linemen positions. With that said, I think putting Jordan Paty on the offensive line will help the offense but will make him a little less effective on defense because of wearing down. That is two though positions to go both ways. But if they can give him a breather every now and then, he will do fine. I hope they leave Brandon Bruell at full back and give him more carries. He was very impressive this year. I also like it when we use him as a lead blocker to help give the RB a quick boost through the holes. Who are the back up players from this years team that will step in to give the needed boost? And does anyone know the OHS 2009 Football Schedule? Looking forward to seeing the Owls play basketball Tuesday night. I hear several of the football players have really given the basketball team a good boost. And just for the record... I think Kevin Adams and Bubba Haney (Soddy) got the shaft from the Best of Preps selection. Kevin on any other area team looks like King Of The Mountain, but being at OHS he was over shadowed by Jaques. And Bubba... well let's just say I am glad he is graduating because he was THE Soddy threat on both sides of the ball. Go owls and I hope to see a lot of you at the basketball game Tuesday night. I hear Walker Valley is tough and will need all of our voices to help boost the Owls!
  12. I ran into one of the freshman players dads the other day and he said that several of the good freshman players are looking to jump ship including his son. The main reason given is they do not want to watch from the sideline when they could be playing somewhere else. He also reiterated what I have heard all season from the parents who sat around me at the games. There is no reason for a school the size of Ooltewah not to have a JV schedule for the development players. I will hate to see these kids leave but I am sure some other kids will step up. And I would even go as far as saying, "I think we will see a lot more sophomores playing in games next season out of necessity." Go Owls and good luck East Hamilton!
  13. You are correct, that is a terrible first four games. And good luck replacing Bubba Haney, he was the best receiver/defensive back I have seen play in the Chattanooga area since moving here 20 years ago. You guys have a good coach and I am sure your success this year will bring players back out who may have decided to hang it up. Looking forward to our new district or region and not having to travel so far to see our local teams play.
  14. From a fan only point of view, and looking at the program with grade showing beside the players, the Owls strength looks to be uncertain for next season. They will return some GREAT players but they do not have a depth of players in the JR and Sophomore years. Especially the Sophomores. I think the Owls will make the playoffs next year but they are in need of several key position players. First, they need some upperclassman lineman to transfer in. It looks like only one starter returns unless you count the guy who filled in when #65 got hurt. He did a good job but that only makes two lineman with ANY experience. Second, Ooltewah needs a QB competition to make our QB position better. Move #5 to a flanker position. Third, find a way to have a balanced attack and quit throwing the outside - 1 yard route. I cringed in my seat every time we through that pass hoping the other team would not pick it off and take it for a TD. I hope Gatewood doesn't go to the new school. It will be YEARS before that school will be competitive. He needs to stay where he is and take back the head coaching job once Benny decides to retire. A question for a former or current player. We have won the FRESHMAN Championship for the last three years, so where have all the players gone and why? Farragut remains big and balanced in Sr., Jr., and So., so why does Ooltewah not have more players stay and play in their final years of high school? I just don't get it, unless it is because their is no JV games to keep these players game active. And I have heard all the comments about you get better practicing the starters and I will agree. But you also want a chance to play and see how much you have improved from week to week. Great job to this years Owls team and thanks to all seniors who gave me and many others many great Friday night memories and good luck with your future endeavors. I will be back next year to cheer you on.
  15. Yall can keep all of the one's listed. I pick John Long of Ooltewah. His name says it all "LONG." He has already sent several kickoffs through the uprights in recent games with it being freezing cold outside. His accuracy is incredible and we still get his services for one more year. The one thing that really sets him apart form other quality kickers is his speed and tackling ability. He has had several touchdown saving tackles this year, but most of his kicks have been touchbacks.
  16. I am glad that a person who has such ill feelings does not pull for Ooltewah. I have heard nothing but good things and respect out of the Ooltewah posters about this game. Looking forward to a great game tomorrow night. Go Owls!... It's our time to shine.
  17. One more thing that may help your trip be more pleasant. There is only one sit down NON-FAST FOOD restaurant in Ooltewah and it is the Cracker Barrel. Ooltewah is exit 11 but if you stop at exit 5 then you will find plenty of places to eat around Tennessee's largest shopping mall. There is construction and normal heavy traffic between the mall and our exit so be sure to allow enough time. For those who would like to make a weekend of it, there are many hotels at that the mall exit also. You can visit the Chattanooga Visitors Bureau website for area attractions, lodging and eateries. And as far as gas prices go... Ooltewah normally has the best gas prices around the Chattanooga area. I am sure our announcer guy, Steve Ray, would love for you to stop at Midnight Oil on your way to and from the school. lol I know that is a shameless plug but you will see all of Ooltewah's happenings are brought to you by some business. You would think you were at a NASCAR race. Buckle up and drive safely, I know how much I hate driving during the holidays.
  18. With the internet being the communication source for the future, it would be nice if Ooltewah High School had an elective class for website development. Or at least a club or student group who would take the bull by the horn and keep the community updated. I have no contact with the school except for coming to the games on Fridays. I did find a partial basketball schedule on here so that I can go see some of the basketball games.
  19. I have not seen any high school that does as good of a job with their website as Farragut. I have enjoyed visiting their site over the past couple of years. KUDOS to whoever is in charge of doing their website. Great Job!!! I would love to see a similar stats chart on the Ooltewah site. Go Owls!
  20. So how well does Oakland fans travel? Ooltewah has a great reputation for bringing a crowd when they travel. We out number a lot of teams when we go to their place. It was nice to see how many area teams that we play and do not play against come out and join in on the festivities last Friday night. I think I counted eight different area high school jackets at our game against Faragut. There is just something extra special about this time of year and being this far into the playoffs. Does anyone know what college scouts will be in town for the game? I know Ooltewah has several players looking at D1 opportunities and it sounds like Oakland may have a few of their own. Go Owls! Ooltewah 17 Oakland 7
  21. Who do you pull for? The owl fans as well as others in our region at least show support for their programs by PROUDLY displaying their schools name or mascot in their posts. I think you have been sniffing too much glue at your AAA school. After all, the competition in 5A (AAAAA) is pretty fierce. Even the schools we don't like... we give a great amount of respect. I don't think any Region 2 5A school if they had to go to battle would not choose another from this region to watch their back. That is what makes our region great. We support and defend our Region 2 brothers. Go Owls!!!!!
  22. Hey HornedOwl... could you do us a favor and have someone hide that guys microphone. He really loves hearing himself on it and he just talks to be talking. The band lined up right the first time and then he got on there and had the horn section move in and then had them move back out to where they were. These are intelligent kids who don't need him to tell them every single thing, as well as the fans really don't want to hear his every word. Glad to have you all back, I hope we can turn up the volume on the noise(with all due respect to the band) this Friday. It is hard to be loud when you are freezing your buns off. Go Owls!
  23. This is not the thread to talk about Ooltewah since there is going to be a great match up one here already but the Ooltewah defense is not the one who has been scored on... at least not much. Probably half of the scores against Ooltewah have been on special teams or when the offense gives up an interception and allows the opposing team to take it to the two yard line like last Friday. The defense held for three downs but any good team that has first and two from the goal line will score, and Faragut is a good team. Now back to the White Station vs. Franklin game. It sounds like White Station is the surprise team and probably the underdog in this game. I will pull for White Station just because they remind me of Ooltewah who is looking to make their first ever state tournament game. Good luck to all and safe travels!
  24. You would be right.... Ooltewah High School! lol Looks to be another great game this Friday night at the nest.
