  1. I would like to thank every school, wrestler and parent that came to McMinn Central for this tournament. This was our first tournament and we have learned a lot. I personally asked many people how we could do a better tournament and each comment will be considered for our next one. ( The one comment about moving closer to Chattanooga, well thats not going to happen). lol Michael Morelan
  2. She weighs 115 lbs this week, but she was unable to win the 119 place on our team before she had problens. Thanks for asking, she has a long way too go in this sport. I just hope she can compete next year if possible. Were tatoos ever not allowed? Michael Morelan
  3. Soms,, the female wrestler is my daughter, she has had medical issues that has hampered her this year. ( not injuries) She did do three pickup matches at the Lookout Mountain tourny and won all three in a total time of less than two minutes. She is deciding if she can do the womans tourny in Kentucky, But I am not sure if she will make that one. Hopefully she will be back up to a wrestling mindset her senior year. Michael Morelan
  4. Thanks,, I needed to have done a spell check on that!!!! I did see several covered at state last year. It surprised me how many wrestlers have them. Michael Morelan

    TATTOS

What is the ruling on tattoos? I have seen several wrestlers with them this year. I thought they must be covered during a match. If they must be covered, how do you cover the tattoos that go across the shoulders? Several times I have witnessed the offical having the wrestlers remove the "Under Armor" shirts, so I know that that is not an option. And what happens if the wrestler cannot cover the tattoo? thanks Michael Morelan
  6. I belive Region 3 is the Toughest region. True all regions have some great wrestlers, But look at the records, year after year region 3 has been near or at the top in Tennessee. Michael Morelan
  7. gumbi, Hello, this post is very much like last years post on female wrestlers in Tennessee. I know of several that are wrestling and more that would wrestle. Our local highschool coach contacted either the Redbank or the Soddy coach ( sorry I do not remember the coach) to see is we can bring some of the female wrestlers down to wrestle at the match. We were told that was done to raise funds and we could not join in the meet. To me thats sad because those schools could be a major force in getting the female wrestlers their own teams in Tennessee. As much as I dislike basketball I belive wrestling should develop like basketball did. If you field a boys/men team you must field a girls/womans team. That way the one supports the other and no conflict with the contact of male and female. Is this costly? yes, Is this possible? yes, Is this good for wrestling? YES. At this time wrestling is a struggling sport all across America. Wrestlers must sell the sport to others to keep it growing and alive. The female wrestlers are wrestlers they even wrestle at a % bodyfat disavantage to the male wrestlers. I will start counting the female wrestlers and post the schools at a later time. At this time belive these schools have or had female wrestlers McMinn Central, McMinn Co, Seymore, Morristown area, Cookville, thanks Michael Morelan
  8. Tennessee Runner, Thanks for the great site. Michael Morelan
  9. I have seen 3 "fat " man races at Lenior City highschool. They are some of the funnest things I have seen at a track meet. Of course all of it is in fun.. but the comments were great Comments heard: a. do those cowboy boots have spikes? b. when did track have a weight limit? c. turns? d. what is that metal tube thing called? e. can I take my drink? f. wait a sec that person runs track g. how did the girl get in a fat man run? h. We are Fast!!!! Enjoy Michael Morelan
  10. McMinn Central again Michael Morelan
  11. tophat I do not know if Brian can reply on this but THANKS for the invitation to come down and work with your wrestlers. From my point of view Bradley and Cleveland have always treated McMinn Central in a very professional manner. Even when we were down to 4 wrestlers a few years ago. We did have 18 kids this year that had never been on a mat and your recognition means a lot to me. We will see you soon. Michael Morelan
  12. Imright Thanks Michael Morelan

    Questions?

I have some questions. Is this boys, girls or both? Is Lacrosse a olympic sport? thanks Michael Morelan
  14. Not to take away from the people that run the state tourny in Chattanooga, They do a great job. But a larger place can be found. When the AAU had the Junior Olympics at the Knoxville Convention center, they had 6 to 8 mats out and room for 4 more. Also at this time judo had 6 sets of mats out, The dance/drill area had a huge area and table tennis had 8 tables. The room could hold 20 mats with ease. Yes the bleachers was portable and yes the food was a lot less money( drinks were $1.50 not $3.50). But double elimination could be done and Division II could be run at Knoxville. Michael Morelan No I am not from Knoxville.
  15. I seen a old(1971-1974) photo of Cleveland and their mat's wrestling area was square not a circle as we have now. It did look odd. But the wrestler was mostly covered. We were down to 3 wrestlers 3 years ago, this year we have 23 wrestlers. With 4 wrestlers going to state. A small team can grow, wrestling must be sold to the school, the students and the parents of these students. Michael Morelan
