  1. I would like to agree, but until you can stop the run, your not going to beat anyone. Union Co. has 1 win... CCHS has not won in nearly 3 years... it's different when you do not want to be the team that gives up a W for a winless team. Besides, until you can NOT let anyone rush for over 300 yards per game, it's going to be tough to win. Good luck CCHS, but the game is on the road... Union Co - 18 CCHS- 13
  2. If CCHS cannot score a single point against Seymour or David Crockett, then unless they get some garbage points late, then they do not have a shot.... yeah yeah... any given Friday, but Sevier is a powerhouse and will at least could put up 60 or 70 points up. The Bears are not Seymour, they are more powerful. I hope CCHS can get through this game with no injuries, but they will get thrown around a little and who knows what the effect of this game will bring for the outlook of the rest of the season. I can only hope that the mindless administrative souls of CCHS can take notes to see what a powerhouse of a football program is with Sevier Co. visiting. With Jeff County and others still on the schedule, maybe they need to call these coaches or whatnot to see what they are doing. Sorry but the old excuse of not having speed or talent does not work. Thats the excuse and what people are told to think, but Newport has a lot of talented student-athletes that could easily make CCHS a contender. You can only hope CCHS can keep it close or maybe even surprise early, but once the adrenaline runs off and this one will get ugly. All I can say to any CCHS players is to keep working and holding the rope, but as for this week, they will take a fierce hit in the mouth. CCHS scores early, but the Bears are on cruise control.... 63-7
  3. Are you FN serious? DC beat D-B? Geez... what kind of weed do they have in Northeast TN?
  4. A few years ago they were having practices without an actual football.... thats for real, but I can assure you that they are no longer doing that now.
  5. I was not there, but I had 2 parents and a former player call me and I know of a very frustrated middle school coach that said there were parents and fans screaming from the stands when this event took place. Seymour got a safety and then CCHS instead of kicking the ball off, used a long snapper to punt the ball on the "free punt". The long snapper immediately ran down field resulting in a penalty. I do not know why this happened or even why a timeout or something else wasn't called. I want to give the coaches and players the benefit of doubt, but come on, this is a level of football close to college... not grasscutters. Why on earth would the players even do that? I would find it hard to believe that they were coached this way. At least I would hope not. The next kick was from a tee, which was on the 15. The players should be ready this week. Below is the quote and link to the Newport Plain Talk... CCHS' paper. "Keegan Newport also brought a safety for the Eagles, by tackling punter Devon Yankee in the end zone after a bad snap that resulted in a pair of points. After the punt came the most bizarre play of the game, as Cocke County proceeded to use a long snapper to snap the ball to the punter on the free kick, which resulted in an offsides call against the Fighting Cocks." http://newportplaintalk.com/story/30055
  6. I read in the paper (Newport Plain Talk) and also heard from 2 parents of players and a middle school coach about the infamous "long snap kickoff" last week. I'm still awaiting an explanation on that one! CCHS could win this ball game, but if any more safeties come about... look out! What's next... a drop kick? Seriously... any players... coaches? Whats the dealio on that kickoff from last week? I would take CCHS... offensively they can control the ball and wear DC out, but unfortunately that defense was shredded even in a 4-4, so who knows. What does DC have this year? I will predict... DC- 33.... CCHS...20.... until CCHS comes about on defense, they cannot win an any shootouts... sorry old hometown, but it's just the truth! Practice hard and keep working!
  7. Folks... this guy is right on! I spoke with a parent of a currrent player at CCHS as well as one of the middle school coaches that was in attendance and both confirmed the above story. I have to say that I am shocked because the head coach has college playing experience and should definately know the rules, but the others... who knows. The parent is not at all happy, but he says he will continue to support for now.
  8. That can't be real. You mean to say that on a kickoff they snapped the ball and put the punter back 10 or 15 yards? I hope thats not true. Any truth Newport people?
  9. I would love for you to personally show me where I have bashed Shelton and Hall. I took up for them last year on a post and even made the comment that they held their players to a higher standard than the "other" school with having their kids go to the UT strength & conditioning conference and also having 4 coaches attend that same seminar! I am not down on Cosby at all... but if your going to use "youth" as an example... thats not fair to the kids. Everyone battles that and I'm sure Hampton or whomever will be a rough contest, but you play with what you have and you have to have those kids ready and strong. I know about the limitations up there and I will apologize if some of my sarcasm or comments seemed rude... because that was not the intent. DS is doing the best job he can and I only hope that people in the area will appreciate him and USE his servises because if every kid was on board with DS, for the full off-season.. then you could not only put Cosby in the conference championship picture, you put them in the state picture.... but until some of these parents get their minds right and understand what it takes in todays athletics, then all of that stuff is just a dream. even though Cosby is 0-2 and basically looking at a rough Friday this week, doesn't mean the season is over. It will be a long season and despite what happens on Friday, if Cosby keeps working and training, they will be alright and there at the end. I guess when I saw "barely alive" in the one post it made me think, wait a minute... but if everyone works and continues under DS, Im telling you that they will be fine.
  10. A problem with DS? Why in the world would I? I talked to him last week matter of fact, he is enjoying the fact that he is with Cosby, but is very frustrated at the whole county picture. It's Cocke County as a whole that has the problem! You may think I am bitter, but Im not. Lets see I go from the NFL to Newport... get asked to leave because I gave 2 s - - ts about the kids and now you have an ex-Marine trying to make a difference and even his stuff is limited. WE TRY TO HELP AND THE COACHES PUSH US AWAY! Bitter is not what I am feeling, more of a Ron White "You can't fix stupid" attitude... remember you have kids with talents up there (AND YES YOU DO HAVE TALENT) and you ruin their athletic experiences if you do not push them to the max... both on and off the field. Cosby is a whole lot better than the other school by far. I see schools down here that make kids pay to play... thats right $125 to step on the practice field and if they quit, you do not see a refund. There are worse situations everwhere and Cosby has it better than some. BTW- I paid $200 last year for a banner at Cosby, so if I was against everything, then why support them? So since you know me, sir- anytime you want a conversation, I'm sure you know how to contact me.
  11. Congrats.... I'm sure Coach Stiles is very happy!
  12. I read the Plain Talk paper in Newport every once in awhile and after reading the CCHS/SG story, what exactly does this mean? This quote is from the paper and coach... link below... "Cocke County High School coach Casey Kelley's message all week was that if anyone was going to beat his football team this week it needed to be the South Greene Rebels." http://newportplaintalk.com/story/29998 Seriously - drawing a blank on that one.... why would you want the other team to win?
  13. Player development... I have tried to get you people up there to understand that for years. Yeah your young, but so are thousands of players across the country. You guys even have the strength and conditioning coach that your paying. It all starts with the middle school programs when these kids get around 12. Develop them and get them on the same page sd that when the high school years come around, BOOM, they can step right in and play. I consult with coaches in Florida and Ohio about this same stuff. I know you guys may be down, but do not quit on the kids and most importantly, keep working in the weight room during the season.
  14. Dude, you are wayyyyyyyyy off! Let me educate you on WVU Football! First off, there is no "Coach Peterson"... Jim Carlen was the coach at WVU before Bowden and was actually 10-1 before leaving for Texas Tech. Bowden was the offensive coordinator and actually was an assistant coach at FSU before coming to WVU. Carlen left WVU with a great team and also a great WR in Danny Buggs. Bowden did not really "propel" himself to WVU. In 1974, WVU suffered through a 4-7 season with losses to Richmond, Tulane, and Temple. He (Bowden) also hated the cold Northern weather and wanted to go back to Fla St. when they were courting him after the '74 season. He was on the hot seat in '75 and came through with a 9-3 record, but he lied stating that he wanted to stay at WVU... well after the Peach Bowl win, he contacted the WV governor and asked for permission to talk to FSU. The rest is history. Yeah Bowden had some good years at WVU and is an all-time great coach, he did not ressurect a failing program. Many people in WV still do not like Bowden (probably for leaving) and thats hard to believe (cause he is a fantastic guy), but like anywhere else in D1 college football, you always have 100,000 assistant coaches complaining. As for Greeneville.... you would be best suited to stay with your #2 in Caine Ballard. He is the guy the kids trust and will play for. If your looking for another big fish, why bother? You guys just lost a great coach over some BS anyways, so why not give Ballard the job? Getting a new coach and scrambling over the summer to possibly change the offense and defense could disrupt an already great team/program. Caine is able so take the new coach idea off the table!
  15. Yeah no kidding... typical Greeneville. When Don Woods left Morristown West, an assistant was instantly promoted. Why is this not the case with Greeneville? They have already had Ballard sit out and then later come back, so why risk losing him again? Unless he does not want the head job and I cannot imagine him not wanting it. Ballard is a heckuva coach and man and if Greeneville wants to stop the "bleeding" it has already caused itself, keep Ballard as the head man and stop the nonsense of bringing in people and wasting time. The kids are already in a state of shock, so why do it over the course of the summer and lose players and cause the program to slide?
