  1. Just started reading your posts this year and will say i am pretty dang impressed at how in the world you can see so much softball over such a large area in the state and then be pretty dang accurate on your predictions and dipictions of the teams whether it touches the nerve of the reader or not. haha.... For your District 10 A predictions you get a B+ for accuracy..(obviously our district) * Clarksville Academy - Dead on * White House Heritage - Dead on * Jo Byrns - not hardly as much progress as you had thought they would make. Split with McEwen so probably will end up 4th in the district * Houston County - Dead on * East Robertson - Dead on except someone did beat them (nashville christian) but from what i am hearing East had their worse game in 4 years. East's coach is very good with those girls and they are a well disciplined team * Nashville Christian - Kinda missed this one bad as far as the district goes because they were tied with East at the top from the split until McEwen played their best game all year and beat them. * McEwen - Dead on for this year. We should finish 3 or 4 depending on last 2 games. I agree with the Tournament comment 100%. The Diamond classic did those girls a world of good. The problem right now is starting 6 sophomores and 2 freshman and having 3 sophomore pitchers that are green at this point. The plan is to hit the travel circuit this summer and gain experience and hopefully begin to try and "get to the top" by senior year. hahaha... I appreciate your posts and look forward to your critique of this one!!! P.S. i showed this to the mcewen girls a week ago and it fired them up....thanks....
  2. Thanks...I did have one last question for ya. I see that you coach softball. What level/age and league do you coach?
  3. I would love to come see this game. Because I am sure that it will live up to the hype. However, our high school basketball kicks off friday night so I suppose I better go cheer for Mr. Tummins with the round ball in his hands for a while now! See thats what us guys that loose have to do......resort to another sport till next year. But good luck to you all.
  4. thanks and I got caught up in the moment with that other post which shouldn't happen again. haha. There are alot of very good and intelligently thought out perspectives on the way the game friday night could go. So I suppose some have to be right and some have to be wrong which is why you play the game. Playoff's bring out a new beast at any level of competition in any sport and yes coaching whether good or poor does show a little more visible. I just hope that both these teams bring their A game friday night and leave it all on the field so that whomever is the better of the 2 teams advance to represent our Region the best. You did comment on me giving my viewpoint as a Coach and thats why I try to do however I do not coach on the high school level yet but most definately have it as a very near future goal. For the time being the highest level that I am coaching on is the defensive coordinator at our middle school. So maybe I miss something here and there because of the level change. (I dont think so but maybe)..haha
  5. Ok I wont be one of those guys that get on here to argue because I only comment on what I see as a coach at different levels and as a fan of the sport in general. But one comment does sit a little sideways with me here. Your comment that .."our low score in that game can also be attributed to the many turnovers in that game"...helloooooo we had 6 turnovers ourselves!!! Do you not think that impacted our scoring a little bit as well. Now you can look at it like I do and say yes we were a little sloppy with the ball but we played a really good defense and really good defenses make teams turn the ball over. But where is a little mutual respect in saying that maybe you all played a pretty good defense as well??? The only team that we didnt pretty much shut down "for the most part is Cascade". And yes we did play Cascade early in the season and obviously late in the season (last week) and let me tell you....They are extremely more dangerous now than they were then. We also only played you all a few weeks ago which is what I am giving my comparative breakdown based on. I have never said and would not for a second take away from JB but there is no harm making a comparison on match ups (mutual or not) and not thinking the outcome will be the best for JB. I was on the sideline for both games against Cascade and the one at home against JB. I saw every play of all 3 games and not only did I see them I was the one charting them for both teams. I am not biased at all...because I have no more invested in Cascade than I do JB...just like I said...as a Coach (not High School)..I coach our Jr. High and am Director of and coach the 10-12 yr olds in our Jr. Pro youth Football program.....i just believe that Cascade has too many weapons and are peaking at the right time.
  6. Yes indeed they did put up 55 on us. And on that note...remember that McEwen does not have a bad defense at all. We held JB to 14 pts ourselves if you remember. But Cascade's offense (as I mentioned earlier) didnt look like the same unit on the field....wayyyyy better. The first game they put up 42 but remember that 14 of those were Interceptions returned for scores. The offense only scored 28. But the 55 last week was straight up but kicking on offense and they attacked us from every directions. they had better motion in the backfield, they set up counter really well, when they established the run they made us bite and hit us with play action with perfect throws down the seams and on the go route's. The coaching was brilliant so if I was JB coaches I wouldnt count out anything this week with Cascade's O!!! For clarification if I was the one that you all thought said that JB had a weak secondary it was highly misunderstood. JB has an awesome Defense and I meant that if they had a weakness it was in the secondary because it definately isnt the sideline running #5 and the rest of his linebacker buddies!!! haha...And that comment is based on the fact that McEwen has a less than average passing game if any and we had success throwing the ball against Jo Burns when they shut down our 2000 yard plus running back that night!! But I say once again...after playing both teams and Cascade twice I think I would choose to play JB before missing with that freaking offense of Cascade's again.
  7. I hate to say it because both Cascade and JB are both really good football teams but if Cascade decides to pass I really dont see JB having a chance unless #5 knocks Cascade's QB out of the game and the bad part about that is you have to catch the slippery little guy to do that. McEwen had success passing against JB and we are horrible at it so I could possibly see #9 for Cascade having a 220yard 2 or 3 TD game this week if the line is protecting like they did last week. 8. I love the sarcasm and listening to you guys go back and forth. I am going to give an unbiased view of this game and yes I am from McEwen so you probably could care less. We played both teams and were beat by both teams. When I left the first Cascade game I was left with the thought..."That is a very explosive offense but if we hadn't had those 2 pick-6's then we could have maybe pulled out the win"...and when I left after the Jo Burns game i was left with the thought..."we blew that one!!! we had 4 fumbles and 2 interceptions and still were driving to win at the end...but OMG what a group of stud linebackers from JB....#5 is ridiculous".....and after this last weeks game with cascade I thought this...."holy crap this team is 2 times better than they were the first time!!!".... Now to put all that crap into some type of analysis...JB has a solid offense that can be explosive if not defended properly. Their defense however is top shelf in my book for the most part. Their interior lineman are really good but their linebackers (#5 in particular) are phenomenal. Sideline to sideline and fundamentally sound. However if they have a weakness it is definitely in their secondary. and unfortunately that is going to be a huge problem for them considering the fact that from the 2 games I have seen....the cascade QB #9 is no slouch and has 2 or 3 weapons..#2 mostly that can put points on the board with one double move as quick as you can say "toast". Jo Burns' #5 is the best defensive player I have seen all year but he doesn't cover wide outs or slots and I don't think he can catch Cascade's QB. So obviously my prediction is that Jo Burns is in their last game of the year this weekend and loses by 10.....
  9. We ended up 6-3. Started 0-3. Waverly was a complete catastrophe this year. We were running the wrong defense and the wrong offense and had several players out of position for their capabilities. The beginning of week 4 we changed all that and went 6-0 to finish the year. The team that played waverly never existed again after all the changes were made. We ended up 6-3. Started 0-3. Waverly was a complete catastrophe this year. 10. Thanks...its like a 72 hour drive or something to get there...hahaha.....but as for #33 the only time I have seen him struggle at all this year or at least slip the first or second contact has been against JB. Omg their linebackers (especially #5) are awesome. They are fundamentally sound. I started watching #5 pre-snap and everything down to his first step is text-book and man is he strong. They shut our running game down for the most part but us giving the ball up 6 times that game was more than we could overcome. We moved it well up and down the field but each time we were getting in scoring position ---BOOM---TURNOVER!!!...and to be honest they were pretty much the same way. Question...you and some of the others seem to keep up with the other teams pretty well....How good is Wayne county and can they beat JB. I know the head coach very well and both of his son's (who are the Qb and the reciever) and I know that he says they will win but whats the real deal. is there offense really good enough to move on JB?
  11. Thats what we are hoping for!!! Obviously and especially with the rain AGAIN dont expect to see the ball flying through the air tonight like we tried last game. The plan is simple or at least I hope its our plan..(you never know)...slow methodic long drives to keep the ball out of Cascade's hands with that high powered offense in hopes that Mr. Tummins decides he just doesnt want to be tackled anymore and has one of those 250+ nights. And on D...bring heat off the corners to try and contain yall's QB and run lots of stunts to create breakdowns in the blocking scheme's for some trap backs. Oh and I cant forget the part about please Coach Nolen dont get in man coverage...zone out these guys and play the quick outs and dont let anything over the top like last time. This is my first post because I guess I didnt realize that Coach T had all this awesome stuff on it but I did want to mention something about Ethan Tummins that people not from McEwen doesnt know......He is just as great of a person off the field as he is a running back on the field in our Community. A very respectful fine young man. Also has a great GPA. And is EXTREMELY humble. Its amazing to me that he has that internal motor that never stops driving when he gets the ball put in his hands 25 times per game but on top of that he plays every other down as well...punt, punt return, kickoff, kickoff return, extra point FG, and Defensive Safety. On Defense he is one of the leading tacklers on the team and has a few interceptions just to add to his wrap sheet. Just wanted to point out that there is more to this kid than just some good moves. Good luck Cascade this game should be a really close one as long as we dont turn the ball over.
