  1. My son played against them this year in the thanksgiving tournament. Well coached team with great players. When you get players from  different schools that can play it certainly helps. Clay will have their hands full. Love To see them in the state tournament against each other for the championship. We do play a little football in Smith county

Upperman has the most talent(top to bottom) Macon  very close second and York 3rd. LA improved 4. Watertown 5. Dekalb 6. Smith 7. Cannon 8. Upperman and Macon could flip it comes down to coaching, McWilliams to involved wont loosen the reigns, White lets em play so White and his players have advantage, York same they can be a spoiler. Tough tough district dog fight every night.

That’s a lot Closer than I had guessed

  3. Upperman (How do they reload every year? Good coach but team could lead state in technicals)

Watertown (transfers help but awesome coach and athletic)

York ( That post is a 17 year old senior and have a bunch of good young players)

livingston ( they go as sells go but have a good chance to beat people)

Cannon ( Gus and some good post)

Tie with Dekalb ( good size , quick guards)

Macon ( Got some good shooters and will let you know when they score)

Smith ( no seniors, 1 junior , bunch of sophomores and a few freshman)

Some very good games in this district. Sad to see that next season that won't be the case with all the moving around of teams. 8AA has been a fun district to watch

It’ll be fun watching Bigger  schools play bigger schools that don’t have a distinct advantage. Should’ve been done years ago.

Its a good road trip for a few guys and a DD.The 'Hole' is a great atmosphere. Not so great this year with covid and a goose egg.Dont look for a big crowd but being homecoming it may help.Owls only have like 5 seniors.# 35 is a beast and the best player without a doubt. Both teams are rebuilding so it should be a good contest.Have a safe trip...Oh behind the visitors bleachers on the hill will be some good ole boys having fun. They are harmless. If you get thirsty stop by.They are real accomodating.

My son plays for Smith. I think it will be a good game. We are Young. It is true I have been behind the bleachers many, many times and you will be treated well .

  6. Haven't watched high school baseball much at all. I do know smith lost a load of seniors- runs. Runs have been hard to come by so far. Kids play hard and that's good enough for me right now.

  7. I have seen a bunch of  basketball games since the 80s and I can say without question it is got worse every year. The guy over tssaa  was on 104.5 The zone I believe last week and it was a plea for people to quit hacking on the referees. I know refereeing is a tough job and I have refereed a bunch of games but I believe, what someone stated, it has gotten worse since the three man has been in effect. I have talked to referees which I think doing a wonderful job but when you put one veteran referee and with two people that are green in a high school game that is what you would expect is the crowd to be vocal because they shouldn't be out there in the first place. Now if they would go back to the two men crew there would be a couple of things that what happened. Tssaa probably would lose money and some of these guys would have to trim down to get their rear up and down the court. They also couldn't blame another referee because it wasnt in his or her area. Referee is a decent-paying job for some not to give effort is really what gets me heated.

Smith played much better than anything I've seen from them this season. They turned it over a ton the first time they played UHS. Last night, they limited turnovers, made shots, and played much better D forcing UHS to make tough shots resulting in the Bees not shooting as well as the first time they played. It was a good game that remained close the whole way. Upperman didn't play their best, but a lot of credit to Smith for being a major cause of that. There are no easy road games in this district. Dekalb gave LA a run last night too.

It was the most enjoyable game ,girls or boys,I've seen all season. I'll take effort, discipline, and direction. We have had spurts when we don't look bad.

Never seen Smith Co basketball this bad.  Whats going on. Girls seem to be trending upward. Hopefully you guys get things turned around.  Looks like my Tigers are definitely headed in the right direction.  Will definitely find out Fri vs York.

Our girls are improving as we go as far as the boys it's just hard to put your thumb on what's going on right now. There is a lot to say but not worth saying if you know what I mean

yep, it was interesting how that group of sopohmores ended up in baxter.   Lot of different rumors around that. But this is not a place to air dirty laundry.

I certainly would have thought York would be the team to beat.  But after seeing LA play a couple times and looking at their scores, seems like the district may run through them.  The Sells kid is so talented.

Anyone from Smith co know why they are so down?  Is it just a matter of talent has dried up?

I also agree that Coach Sanders knows what he is doing.  It will take a couple years and everyone buying in probably but he will run a solid program given time.

Just got on here and someonewanted to know about Smith County basketball and what was wrong with the program. We lost 2-1000 pt career scorers. We have very little experience when it comes to play in 8-aa basketball. just my opinion, and my opinion only, we probably have one kid that could start on most teams in the upper division of our district. We lost four young men after the summer so we are trying to figure out what's going on as far as basketball goes with new kids. Those kids that quit weren't going to make or break our team anyway so we're playing seniors , two Juniors and some freshman. It's not hard to figure out we are going to have a couple of lean years down in Carthage. My son plays and sometimes basketball just gets downright ugly. Not faulting no one at all those kids are trying to play hard it's just we are behind the learning curve for a couple of years. And as far as the big three I believe York has the most talent and I'm not saying they'll win but I really like those kids. The coach it seems has them playing good fundamental old school basketball.  We have a couple of teams  that have smart XXX kids and it seems like the coaches let them be that way. That's why I like  york so much. Merry Christmas to everyone
