  1. Hutchison was 2-12-3 last year but was competitive against a lot of good teams. Mostly had trouble scoring....'12 version of Hutchison is improved, but the next 5-6 games are going to tell a good bit. 3 tough games in the Rivals tournament and then St. Benedict and St. Agnes. Supposed to play @ Briarcrest last week, but it was when the hurricane remnants came thru for most of the day. A lot of talented young kids have helped bridge the gap a bit this year. I would expect SBA, Hutchison, and BCS to have some good battles between each other and that along the way SAA will have a tough time with one of them at some point. However, until someone can actually beat them, they are the clear leaders of the West.
  2. Thats akin to the Commercial Appeal dropping them after the loss to Ensworth despite the fact they had just hammered the team they fell below in a game like scrimmage.
  3. I think Wilkins (SBA Jr) wold be in the conversation with Elder. Put him on MUS, Ensworth, etc., and he would be even more highly thought of than he already is.
  4. MUS was dominant tonight. Final: MUS 42 CBHS 3
  5. Yep. Their D is much improved over last year. 1 of SP's TD was a KO return. Enworth also had a kick return and score 2 td's after getting the ball handed to them in the red zone. If their special teams and offense comes along, they are going to be a tough out in the playoff's. I am a little shocked their O-Line has not faired a little better to date. Thought it would have held better in the 2 losses.
  6. IMO, to much was taken from MUS opening week loss to Ensworth. Simply put, the Owls were just sloppy in that game and that in itself is just uncharateristic of them. Likewise, too much is probably being taken away from SP after the loss to Hoover. They lost 25 players off last years squad, but they do have have some talent. Antonio Conner will be the best player on the field, no matter what. I see this as a close game and think it could honestly go either way. MUS will have to avoid the costly turnovers from game 1 on offense, while forcing SP to beat them via the air. I would keep the ball away from Conner all night. No way I give that kid a chance to make a play.
  7. He is also the AD, Boys Basketball Coach, Girls Basketball Coach. Saw him coaching basketball 2 weeks ago. That is all I am aware of.
  8. They should be pretty good. Will have a strong senior class with several D1 prospects. They had a lot of really young kids get unexpected playing time this year due to a lot of injuries on defense, so they should have some good depth. I believe that SP had 25 Seniors on this team. They will be a top notch team as usual, but they are losing some playmakers for sure. I know they have a DT and a S that are sure fire D1 talents returning.
  9. The Commercial just did the pictures for the Soccer BOP within the past week, so they should be forthcoming as your timetable suggested.
  10. Coach Netherland coached his last game for SG, but most he has most likely not coached his last game. He will end up coaching somewhere, even it is in another state. It had to be a rough day for him yesterday. The Memphis paper said the other day that his wife was suffering from some health issues and found out Monday that she was having surgery this Friday. Said he coached and then immediately returned back to Memphis to be with her.
  11. I am not sure how many private schools use the same system as Hutchison, but I would suspect that St. Mary's and at least a few others do as well. I believe in a public school you can earn beyond a 4.0 by way of Honors and AP classes. An A in one of these courses is weighted more heavily than an A in the regular version of that course. Basically, the harder the course, the more you are rewarded for taking the more challenging course work. I think the increased reward is only factored in if you make an A,B, or C. Some of the school's do not have "regular" courses per say. The lowest form they offer is the equivalent (or sometimes) greater than the honors courses at some of the public (and probably a few of the other private schools as well) schools. Beyond that they have Advanced Honors or AP (not all courses have an AP level) which are of course the most challenging courses.
  12. 6th highest in the country! 3rd consecutive year for Hutchison as well. Congrats to everyone who made it.
  13. The Bridges is alive and well. They moved the games from the Liberty Bowl to MUS and CBHS (alternate years I believe). MUS/CBHS rotate playing Melrose/Millington and as stated before, it is a important part of Memphis HS football and the ushering in of the new season. http://www.bridgesusa.org/koctix
  14. [/quote Great game by both teams. I kind of had a feeling BA was going to win this one big. BA looks like they might win it all this year. Good luck to BA in the rest of the playoffs. As for MUS, I think they have a promising future ahead of them with a vast majority of the starters returning next year. Im also interested in seeing what MUS is going to do with their schedule now. Im curious if MUS is going to renew the games with SP, OB, and White station. I am sure that they will try to keep those games or schedule games of that caliber. They are not known to duck tough opponents and I think that they believe it helps them get ready for the post season. They should be pretty stout next year with that talented Junior class. I think SP had 20 something seniors, so that should return to a more competitive game next year and the OB game has typically been a close one year in and year out. I know they got hampered by a lot of defensive injuries this year, but that may actually pay off next year as a lot of younger kids got valuable experience this year because of the depth issues.
  15. Congrats to CBHS. This game lived up to hype of the historical rivalry.
  16. Both played Millington and White Station. MUS' games vs South Panola and Olive Branch far outweigh the Brother's ECS/Clarksdale combo Kingsbury (lost to Owls 42-7) beat G'Town (lost to Brother's 10-0) by 6 Melrose (lost to Brother's 13-6) beat East (lost to Owl's 35-8) by 3 SBA and BCS games are basically a wash at this point. I would say that the strength of schedule edges tilts the way of the Owls. That said, it's a rivalry of historical significance in both Memphis and the State. Tradition will point to this being a close game.
  17. I am pretty sure that is Still playing Center for MUS. I think your contact got a little confused. Also, Dickinson could not have singed as of yet. Committed yes, but not signed. I am not so sure that the SEC school are going to swoop in and offer late either. At this point, Illinois is his only offer. I would move Still back on the OL list. Jordan Wilkins from SBA should be on it, bc that kid is a special athlete. Hard to put the trio from Briarcrest on there when they have yet to win a meaningful game. With putting 4 DB's on that list, Alex Dale of MUS is in contention. I agree with the early poster about MUS QB/P Baker for the Punter position. Kid has punted well.
  18. Phase 1 complete. These are pics from a few weeks ago. Surroundings look a little more put together now... My link My link My link
  19. This game was more about South Panola being really good than anything else. Their skill players were really, really good. It looked like MUS must have been pretty banged up for this one. At one point, they were playing some young kids on defense (I assume bc of what appeared to be injuries) that were clearly overwhelmed. The MUS O-Line is stout though. I thought they were fine against the SP DL, but the speed of the LB's and DB's negated any advantage they gained from the OL. Another bright spot for the Owls was the punter. He neutralized SP star athlete Brassell with some high some booming punts. he had to have averaged 45-50 yards a kick with good hang time to boot. All in all, I still see MUS as the favorite in the West and a contender in D2, especially if they start to get healthy. I do not see another team in TN with as many high caliber athletes as SP put on the field tonight.
  20. If MUS is considered to be down this year, I am sure there are a lot of coaches out there that still be envious of the Owls "down" status. I agree that this will be a tough game for MUS to win, even tougher than last in my opinion. Win or lose this game, they are still going to be one of the favorites to compete for a state championship. It is easy to say a down year because they have set the bar so high for themselves the past two years. Anything less than that seems not up to par, but the reality is that they play such a loaded schedule that they could lose to a team like SP, and then still be the best team in D2 AA or the state even. I have been trying to come up with a prediction for this game, but keep having a hard time. Talent usually wins out in the end, but the MUS consistently has defied that logic in the past. And that is not to say that MUS lacks talent, bc they definitely have some, especially on the OL, but SP churns out talented football players like its going out of style.
  21. There are several ways. 1) If the player changes schools that is over a certain mileage away (Somewhere between 40-50 miles) 2) Parents divorce resulting in change of schools due to custody issues. 3) Parent becomes the coach at the new school 4) Certain hardships that are done on individual basis. Otherwise, the player has to sit out Varsity contest for 1 calendar year from their last date of participation as a member of that team (i.e. practice, game, etc)
  22. I believe that there was a 10 minute video show or was at least available to referees on the matter. I have a strong feeling that it is going to an issue somewhere along the line where a kid is held out at the discretion of an unqualified person. I guess the best bet will be to have a Athletic Trainer or Team Doctor on the sideline, but not all school have them or have them available for all girls soccer matches.
  23. Fair enough. I can't give you a score per say, but I think it will probably be a close game. That said, Hutchison has two games to worry about this week first. Play ECS Tuesday night at Mike Rose Stadium as a precursor to the UM Men's game and then Thursday @ Houston. Good luck on your upcoming schedule. That is a pretty solid 5 game stretch.
