  1. I for one am tired of the home court talk also. Wartburg is 3-4 in championship games at wartburg in the boys and 3-2 in them in girls. I say the Oakdale team will win the consolation game due to having more solid ball handling. Wartburg is pretty young and from what I hear they will be getting 5 or 6 pretty nice freshmen next year so they will be back to their form sooner than later. In this one I'll take Oakdale 39 WB 34 Oneida will beat O.S. by less than 5 but I believe they will win. West has done a great job and will again tonight. Still you have to look at the last 4 years with wartburg winning 3 of 4 championships as an accomplishment. I'm not about to take credit for their success away from the coach and kids. Home court may play a role but it doesn't lead to 3 in 4 years. A quick note to Oneida fan - you come off like a bunch of crybabies and p's when all you do is gripe about where the tourney is. Your programs need to Watch and see how coalfield handles it. We are coming to win it and don't care where we play! Wartburg's time is up!
  2. Not knocking anyone lord knows we have our troubles but the Wartburg team quit playing defense the minute the Hamby kid went down. She appears to be their leader and I don't see them beating anyone without her. Their guards make really dumb decisions and honestly their much praised defense over the J. Davis era is awful…. I bet JD is ready to see some new faces in the doghouse…looks like a group that is mailing it in to me. Down here we have some good young kids but injuries of our own. Hope all can get healthy because we can be really competitive if we do.
  3. Hey booger neutral court at Harriman and Home Court at Oneida ended your teams seasons. I bet there is a kleenex shortage at the Walmart in Oneida all the crying. Tell me what time do your teams have to be at the airport for their flights to Wartburg? To compare NBA to High School Basketball is a bit apples to oranges. Not the same you have all teams represented at a tournament up there at wartburg or anywhere else. You people sound like a bunch of babies. "We used to be oneida and we are so angry that everyone in the region doesn't bend to our every need." Baseball season now so move on!
  4. Doesn't matter who wins the other games. From what I've seen the winner of Wartburg O.S. will win the region! They are both playing very well right now. I've heard that Wartburg is having some pretty bad health issues with some key players but even so I'll take them or O.S. in a Finals! Grace isn't on their level. They would have a hard time in our district.
  5. Kaz, I know you have coached before and I don't like to second guess coaches very much but can you explain why O.S. doesn't run and press like say the wartburg boys do? Take quick shots and force the issue with tempo? Looks to someone with no coaching experience that they are built unlike most girl's teams to force an above 100 mph style of play. Last night they looked like they were not just ok with a slower tempo but actually wanted it that way.
  6. What happened to our girls last night? We didn't look together during the entire second half. Samantha looked completely exhausted and the others didn't step up very well. Good regular season for our girls hopefully we can get it together. I thought the environment was great and thought the games were both exciting, ours for 2 quarters and the first game all the way through. As for Wartburg O.S. game didn't matter where that one was played O.S. only led for about 30 seconds in the game and the combination of Phillips, Hamby, and Laughter was very hard to stop. Also looked like the big girl 21 i think and 2 pitched in with some timely points also.
  7. For those of us that have been around long enough to remember the reason it is at Wartburg is mainly due to the fact that the tournament lost money when held elsewhere. I like having it there and know that it is a pain for the teachers and admin/coaches there also. Yes, it is an advantage but it is also extra work. I think that nobody would be crying over it if they hadn't been winning lately. I don't believe hosting at Jellico would be profitable and think it would literally be dangerous to have it at O.S. due to fire and other overcrowding issues. Neutral Site would have to be Roane State or Scott High I would think. Last year the tournament made a little over 6,000 dollars and Wartburg only got what they earned in tournament share same as the rest of us. I'm by no means a fan of the Dogs but think if we are going to debate this we should at least have some facts. 4A teams share the profits and loss if no money is made. I'm for going to play and not cry over where the game is. My opinion it's closer for me to drive there than it is anywhere in the district. Go Jackets and go win 4A wherever it's played. Stop crying and play the game!
  8. Not much to discuss. You have Oliver Springs and a bunch of bad teams beyond them. I'm proud of what our Lady Jackets have done this season, but am not really hopeful for us beyond the dist tournament. Where has the PG for Wartburg gone? She is playing awful and hasn't seemed to bring much leadership to them. I really expected her to play at an MVP caliber this season. Also, Stephens seems slowed by a knee injury and that has hurt her production. I think Samantha is 4A MVP material, and what about Coach Hines for Coach of the Year? I am going to predict that given what I've heard from others that O.S, Oneida, Oakdale, and Coalfield will make the region. Wartburg, Jellico, and Sunbright will be left out. I would have never thought I would say that given the talent on the Wartburg team, but attitude counts for something. I wouldn't want to be around the burg this off season if they end up missing the region.
  9. I don't see a lot of difference between wartburg and Oneida, rumor has it warts best sub is not playing over some issues and their best post off bench is looking to come back from knee injury. By January both will probably be competing and if so may mean trouble at tourney time. I think they are a solid 3rd with a chance to win tourney. Remember the year they beat us they were 5 th going into the tournament.
  10. I agree with you Kaz, I'm not sure why Oneida lost their last coach. I really felt she was a really promising young coach that could have become a great one. That said West is proven and an excellent motivator. I would say that this gives this district a great collection on girls coaches. That is good for the kids in 4A and it should be a good year to watch.
  11. I think that this year will be a really balanced year for the district, you are going to see Wartburg fall back a bit due to youth and that opens things up for O.S. and Oneida. I don't know who the MVP is but Hamby down our way should be looked at also. Being from Coalfield i've never been too fond of Wartburg but you have to give the almost, "devil" as in Harriman, his due over the past 2 seasons they have gone to a new level. Now though I think they will go through what all of us do at one time or another and that's rebuilding. They looked really young at RSCC camp. So after looking at the teams this summer I'm going to say things go as follows, 1. O.S. - best team top to bottom 2. One - should have something to prove 3. WB - best coach in the region 4. Coal - Hamby wil be enough 5. Oak - Could be 4 or even 3 if their Fr. comes on - and coaching is right there too 6. Jellico - They're jellico 7. Sunbright - Too much loss to graduation but should be a fun team to watch could hustle their way to 4
  12. Samantha Hamby at Coalfield should have gotten recognition for All State I'm proud that the young lady from Harriman got the award and I don't think anyone is saying she isn't a very good player. I watched her time and time again literally drop down and rest during free throws late in games an all state player is one like Alaina who takes her team to the next level, she wouldn't have gone 3-23 with no coach and a bunch of 6th graders playing with her. Anyone who knows anything about basketball can tell you that district 3 is one of the worst in the state. Look what happened when Tellico stepped up in competition. back to back 20 point losses. I think that may change in the future but this is a debate about now! I think that there were more deserving players in our district Hamby, Kilby, Davidson, Stephens to name a few. And many in middle TN as well.
  13. I'm not a big fan of the dogs. but really where do you go for competition? they play anyone that will play within reason but I don't see many 4A teams going up to upper east tn to play. I don't see the investment in time. Also if you look at the schedule they played oneida 4 times and they were a sub-state team, beat hampton 2 times and they were a sub-state team, rockwood 2 times and they are top 20. But to be honest there isn't great talent in east tn A ball. That leaves little option for teams like wartburg. I know when Coalfield is good in football they don't have any AA teams that want to play and I can't imagine any east tn AA or AAA team scheduling an A team that might beat them. Wartburg's schedule is as good as it will get for the next few years. Also, you have to take into account the nuts they have up there for fans and they would ride any coach in the ground that didn't consistently win 20 games. After all basketball is all they have
  14. Whoa! the middle school coach in college? Somebody needs to grow up. If he is able to be a college level coach then why isn't he there? I think you have gone off a bit there. Coach Hines is a person that has a chance to be coaching in college before him. Wartburg Middle School looked bad this year both boys and girls. Are you their middle school coach or something? That coach coaching in college is a riot! LMAO
  15. bitterfan, I am by no means a davis supporter or fan but could you explain to me what 2005 has to do with anything. He didn't even coach high school then. In 5 years as head coach he has won 4A 2 times and 2A one time, been 4A runner up twice and 2A runner up twice and won the regular season 4A title. They have been in a sub-state 3/4 years and may get back this year Wartburg also has not missed a regional tournament the others all have i think. All the other record stuff isn't important. Who cares if a team wins more games in november. It's about the tournament. I believe you are one that was on here giving him trouble earlier. I have been critical in the past and will be again but I will also be fair i dont care who he talks to during a game seems to me thats his business you also have coalfield in the state 3 times since 05 they have been 2 times i know our towns basketball and your facts are not right
