  1. Thanks! That was a great site. Hopefully he'll get the site back up, if he hasn't already.
  2. Agree totally. That's true. They went to the playoffs his first couple of seasons, but were at around .500 seems like. They had an 8-3 team in 2008, but really got things going in 2010 & 2011. If they can make the Playoffs early on this time around, that'd be a big success, in my opinion. I do hope that the community and fans give him time to get things where he wants them to be. There are some tough opponents on the schedule, as mentioned above. Not to say that there aren't any great athletes playing for the Panthers now, but Mobley, McPhetridge or the Owenby's won't be at his first team meeting. I'll also be interested to see who all his assistant coaches will be.
  3. I also think he did a great job at Halls. I remember they were awful when he took over, but gradually they improved into a Playoff team. I've known JD since I was in High School. He's a great person. I hope he gets a Principal job. Were Gibbs, Halls & Powell the only Head Coaching jobs that came open in Knoxville/Knox Co this year?
  4. This is old news, but Brad Turner has been named as the new Head Coach for the Eagles. He is a graduate of Gibbs and has been on their coaching staff since 2004. Brad Turner Gibbs
  5. He seems like a really good guy & I wish him all the best both personally & professionally. I'm not sure what Campbell Co. pays, but Knox Co. has notoriously low pay. I have no way of knowing this, but I can't help but think that they have great job security at Campbell Co., while Powell has gone through coaches quite often. As a former player/graduate of Powell, I'd love for Powell to get someone who will stick around for a long time though.
  6. I'm thankful for the hard work that he and his staff put into the program. Like others have said, it's in much better shape than it was when he took over.
  7. Oh ok, thanks! I also saw that the stadium at Rule has since been torn down. I'm not sure about the goal posts or scoreboard though.
  8. If I'm not mistaken, South-Young and Doyle merged for the 1991-1992 school year. 1990-1991 was the final year that Rule High School was open, I believe. It's been several years since I drove past it, but the Rule High School building was still standing, as well as their football stadium and scoreboard. I guess most students that would've gone to Rule ended up at Knoxville West or Austin East.
  9. Quite frankly, I agree with you on that. The Oak Ridge QB was a beast. I remember that was a Thursday game that was on TV & I'll admit that Powell had some luck on their side that night.
  10. That's correct, his name was McPhetridge. Henry County had a great team, as well. Most notably that really tough running back. That Defense was excellent too. Powell hadn't been held to under 21 all season until the State Championship. Turnovers were probably the key to that game. The following season ended after a hard fought 32-27 loss at Columbia Central.
  11. 2011 Powell. Dyshawn Mobely led a great team that fell just short against Henry County in the State Championship Game. 1990, 1991 and 1992 Powell teams were really solid as well. The 1991 team lost big to Brentwood Academy in the Clinic Bowl though.
  12. Coach Duncan has done a remarkable job of turning that program around. Even if they lost alot of starters from last year, he seems to get alot out of his players. I look forward to seeing them play this season.
  13. Good luck to the Red Devils. J.D. Overton is a really good man, as well as a good football coach. I'd like to see him have some success at Halls.
  14. I made a point to buy a Lee Smith #85 Bills jersey to represent a Panther who has done really great things. I know that he was on ESPN's "Come On Man!" segment when he scored a TD against the Rams in the 2012 season, then jumped into the stands, especting them to catch him. Instead, they moved out of the way and he landed on the seats. Having seen several Bills games live at Ralph Wilson Stadium from 2007-2010, I'm a bit surprised that they didn't try to catch him. Despite the team generally struggling for 15 seasons or so, the fans up there are very passionate. I'm glad that Lee is doing very well both on and off the field.
  15. In my opinion, Karns will be better than they have been in years past if they are patient with Kilgore. His record at Powell wasn't due to poor coaching. It was primarily on account of injuries to key players and a lack of overall depth at certain positions. The guys played really hard for him.
